He still had time left on his contract with the Spanish club but was released after their recent relegation from the top flight.
He's now a free agent, and was linked with both Celtic and Rangers when he was on the move last year.
But it's another overseas club now in the frame for the 28-year-old who has been capped for national team more than 40 times.
Croatian new outlet 24sata reports McKenna is due to arrive for a medical with Dinamo Zagreb TODAY.
The club missed out on last season's league title in a dramatic final day, letting it slip to Rijeka only by way of head-to-head record as they shared the same points and goal difference.
Prior to that, Dinamo Zagreb had topped the league table seven times in a row.
Reports say they are looking to bring in two attackers as well as the Scottish defender.
They are Ramon Mierez from Al Jazira and Dion Drena Beljo from Bundesliga team Augsburg.
Both are expected to go for medicals tomorrow, with the latter incurring a fee in the millions after tough negotiations with the German club.
Another free agent from Scotland following Las Palmas' drop to the second division is Oli McBurnie.

He joined from Sheffield United last year but, unlike McKenna, the striker hasn't pulled on the jersey for the national side in over four years.
The 29-year-old has also been linked with Rangers throughout his career, with his Sheffield exit coming after five years at Bramall Lane.
Speaking early on in his time in Spain last year, McBurnie discussed the chatter around him heading to Ibrox: "To be fair this was the only year when I've not heard anything from them.
"There's always been talks but nothing has really come of it - whether it has been the right time for me or them.
"Yeah 100% - at one point in my life. But I don't think now is the right for me to do it, I've signed for three years."
"It's one of them. Obviously I was a free contract in the summer. I was always in contact with Sheff.
"I love the place, love everything about it, but I kind of wanted a new challenge.
"I had a couple of Saudi things .. but I'm going there to retire if I go out there.
"Then my agent rang me and said Las Palmas have just sent us an offer.
"They did a zoom call the next day with me with director of football, a full presentation about how the way I play and how that would suit the way they play."

Marcus Rashford takes to the skies as Barcelona move appears close

Following Rashford's post, Spanish media reported that the Manchester United forward had arrived in Catalonia at around 9.30pm local time. The PA news agency understands United and Barcelona have been in talks over a season-long loan deal for Rashford that would include an option to buy. A post shared by Marcus Rashford (@marcusrashford) The 27-year-old has not played for his boyhood club since being hauled off in a Europa League match away to Viktoria Plzen on December 12 and ended the season on loan at Aston Villa. Rashford is among five players to have informed United they wish to explore a future away from Old Trafford, where he came through the academy and scored 138 goals in 426 first-team appearances. He has been training away from Ruben Amorim's first team since pre-season began while seeking a fresh start elsewhere. In December, the England international admitted he was 'ready for a new challenge' and last month revealed he would like to play alongside Barcelona's teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal. Barcelona sporting director Deco in May told Catalan radio station RAC1 that the club 'like' Rashford, who does not have a squad number at United having lost the 10 shirt to new signing Matheus Cunha. Cunha is one of two new signings at United this summer, with the club having also added left-back Diego Leon. Bryan Mbeumo is set to join them at Old Trafford, with the Cameroon forward in the final stages of completing his move after United finally struck a deal with Brentford worth £65million plus up to £6million in add-ons. United have been approached for comment.

Image: FK Cukaricki Bacanin, 18, is a highly-rated prospect currently on the books of Serbian Super League side FK Cukaricki – but was left out of their league opener against Napretka as transfer speculation rises. Sporting director Vladimir Matijasevic revealed that Bacanin and defender Vojin Serafmovic are both expected to rake in millions for the club in the coming weeks. Bacanin is the one of the two more in demand, with Matijasevic claiming both Rangers and Celtic lead the queue for his signature. He told the Cukaricki website: 'There is a lot of interest in our young players, and currently the focus is on the transfer of Andrej Bačanin. 'He attracted the attention of numerous clubs by playing for our team last season but also for the Serbian national team at his age. 'We had calls from the Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers, Ajax, Udinese, and some other teams are interested. 'It is possible that some other options will appear, and I expect the transfer to be realized in the next ten days. "I expect that this will be another big outgoing transfer of Cukaricki, which would cover the budget of our club.' The Serbia under-19 cap is valued at around £430,000 (500,000 Euros) by football data specialists Transfermarkt although a transfer bidding war could see that price tag rise dramatically. 'A true midfield controller - the type of player our senior NT lacks and who could become a game-changer for us in time. 'A capable passer with both feet, including first-time passes. 'Mostly played short and medium passes here but has that range too. 'Comfortable with his back to goal, progressive, a line-breaker when possible.
