Hence, these regions should be monitored closely to mitigate potential risks. Additionally, Oil Spill Trajectory Advisory simulations were conducted to forecast the potential spread and movement of the oil discharge, aiding in mitigation and clean-up planning. The oil spill of mainly very low sulphur fuel has been observed to drift southeastward toward the coast and make a landfall near Alappuzha (Alleppey), affecting an estimated 11.4 nautical miles of coastline. The spill movement is being continuously monitored using forecast data, said the bulletin.

No threat to Indian coastlines, says INCOIS after earthquakes in Russian Far East
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) — which houses the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC) — in Hyderabad has recorded two deep sea earthquakes off the east coast of Kamchatka (8.7 magnitude) and Kuril Islands (6.5 magnitude) in the Russian far east region in the early hours and said there is no threat whatsoever to the Indian coastlines on Wednesday (July 30, 2025). The agency under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) had also stated that the both the quakes had occurred at depths of 10 km each. Interestingly, the institute had also recorded two more earthquakes off the east coast of Kamchatka on July 20 at the depths of 10 km each with both occurring less than 30 minutes apart at 12.43 p.m. (6.5 magnitude)and 12.10 p.m. (7.2 magnitude). INCOIS had also recorded another earthquake (6.6 magnitude) off the Nicobar Islands in the Indian region at a depth of 42 km at 11 a.m. on Tuesday (July 29, 2025) and another one at the Macquarie island in the south-west Pacific Ocean between New Zealand and Antarctica region at a depth of 10 metres and magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter Scale. All these quakes posed no tsunami threats to our coastline based on pre-run model scenarios, said the institute.

'No Tsunami Threat To India': INCOIS After Magnitude 8.8 Earthquake Strikes Off Russia's Far East
Last Updated: The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) confirmed there is no threat to India following the 8.8 magnitude earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. As one of the strongest earthquakes struck Russia's Far East early Wednesday, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) said there was no threat to India from the massive 8.8 magnitude tremors. The earthquake caused a tsunami in the northern Pacific region and prompted warnings for Alaska, Hawaii and other coasts south toward New Zealand. Meanwhile, in an X post, the INCOIS noted that an earthquake of magnitude 8.7 (before the intensity was revised to 8.8) was detected off the East Coast of Kamchatka. 'No tsunami threat to India and the Indian Ocean in connection with this earthquake," it added. Earlier today, the Consulate General of India in San Francisco said that it was monitoring the potential tsunami threat following the 8.8 magnitude earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. The advisory warned Indian nationals in coastal areas to abide by the directions issued during a tsunami threat. In a post on X, the Consulate mentioned, 'The Consulate General of India in San Francisco is monitoring the potential tsunami threat following the recent 8.7 magnitude earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula." 'Indian nationals in California, other US West Coast states, and Hawaii are advised to take the following steps: Follow Local Alerts: Carefully monitor alerts from US authorities, including local emergency management and the US Tsunami Warning Centres. Move to higher ground if a Tsunami Alert is issued. Avoid Coastal Areas. Prepare for Emergency & Keep devices charged," it added. The Consulate also issued a helpline number +1-415-483-6629 for those affected. Meanwhile, an aftershock of the earthquake measuring 6.3 struck the Kuril Islands at a shallow depth of 10km. The Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology stated that Pacific coastal areas in the country are expected to experience tsunami waves less than one metre high, Al Jazeera reported. 'The first tsunami waves are expected to arrive between 01:20 PM to 02:40 PM" on Wednesday (0620 GMT Thursday to 0740 GMT Thursday). People are advised to stay away from the beach and not go to the coast, in the provinces affected by the advisory," as per the report. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. No tsunami threat to India, says INCOIS as earthquake in Russia sets off alarms in Japan, US, Pacific Islands
With a tsunami hitting the coastal areas of Russia's Kuril Islands and Japan's large northern island of Hokkaido and warnings ringing across Pacific Islands and US, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has ruled out any threat for India. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), INCOIS said: 'NO TSUNAMI THREAT to India and Indian Ocean in connection with this earthquake.' It added, 'Tsunami Warning Centre, @ESSO_INCOIS detected an #earthquake of M 8.7 on 30 July 2025 at 04:54 IST (29 July 2025 at 23:24 UTC) @ Off East Coast of Kamchatka (Location: 52.57 N, 160.08 E).' The tsunami warnings came after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck Russia's Far East early Wednesday. The Japan Meteorological Agency said a first tsunami wave of about 30 cm reached Nemuro on the eastern coast of Hokkaido. Damage and evacuations were reported in the Russian regions nearest the quake's epicenter on the Kamchatka Peninsula. The first tsunami wave hit the coastal area of Severo-Kurilsk, the main settlement on Russia's Kuril Islands in the Pacific, according to the local governor Valery Limarenko. He said residents were safe and staying on high ground until the threat of a repeat wave was gone. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said waves of 1 to 3 meters above tide level were possible along some coastal areas of Hawaii, Chile, Japan and the Solomon Islands. Waves of more than 3 meters were possible along some coastal areas of Russia and Ecuador. The earthquake was the strongest anywhere in the world since the March 2011 earthquake off northeast Japan that measured 9.0 magnitude and caused a massive tsunami that set off meltdowns at a Fukushima nuclear power plant. Earlier in July, five powerful quakes — the largest with a magnitude of 7.4 — struck in the sea near Kamchatka. The largest quake was at a depth of 20 kilometers and was 144 kilometers (89 miles) east of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. On November 4, 1952, a magnitude 9.0 quake in Kamchatka caused damage but no reported deaths despite setting off 9.1-metre waves in Hawaii. With inputs from AP
