Delhi Police arrests techie-turned-fraudster for credit card scam
NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old techie was arrested for allegedly developing a mobile application used to defraud people on the pretext of increasing their credit card limit, police said on Sunday.
The BCA dropout turned APK developer was identified as Jay Kishan alias Rishab, a resident of Ghaziabad. He was arrested in neighbouring Noida following a raid, they said.
Police said the arrest was made during the follow-up investigation of a
cyber fraud
case reported in March this year. Eight people, including five women, were earlier held in the case.
"Jay Kishan was the technical mastermind behind the fake app used in scams. He has a background in app and website development and previously worked as a general manager in a private firm," DCP (Outer) Sachin Sharma said.
Two mobile phones and a laptop used in the crime were seized.

The video, which garnered over 3.8 million views on X, captured several executives dancing with loud music playing during a celebration at Air India SATS's Gurugram premises on June 20. The celebration was widely criticised as inappropriate and inconsiderate, particularly as affected families were still mourning. The AI-171 crash on June 12 resulted in fatalities of all crew members and passengers except one, along with casualties on the ground. "Air India SATS deeply regrets the lapse in judgment reflected in a recent internal video," said a spokesperson of the company. "The behaviour does not align with our values, and firm disciplinary action has been taken against those responsible," the spokesperson added.

A.P. Police will make extensive use of AI for crime detection, prevention, says Naidu
The Andhra Pradesh Police will make extensive use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enforcing law and order, prevent crimes, establish evidence, and reduce investigation time, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has said. Addressing a large gathering of senior IPS officers, students, and representatives from AI developing companies during 'AI 4 Andhra Police Hackathon' of the A.P. Police Department held at RVR&JC College, Guntur, on Friday, Mr. Naidu said it was the first-of-its-kind initiative in the country. He said 160 institutions applied for participation, out of which only 60 were selected for the hackathon. Based on use cases, the department would adopt new technology, to complement the existing drone surveillance, CCTV cameras, realtime governance and other initiatives, the Chief Minister said, adding development is possible only by ensuring law and order, and warned that there is no space for criminals in the State. 'We are going to show the strength of Telugu people to the world through AI and Quantum Valley,' Mr. Naidu said. Stating that Andhra's WhatsApp Governance is based on AI technology, he said all certificates will be issued on the platform from coming August. ''We are at the beginning of AI era, and students must focus on startup ideas,'' Mr. Naidu said. Referring to fears over loss of employment due to AI, the Chief Minister said there would be lot of opportunities for students in this technology. He suggested that RVR&JC management ensure hundred per cent placements while encouraging 30% of the students to develop startups. Citing former MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case, he said that Google Takeout helped in establishing evidence, highlighting the adoption of technology by the police in investigation. Calling the Chief Minister a visionary who has been transforming governance by taking advantage of advanced technology, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said Quantum Valley in Amaravati is going to be a reality in the near future. He said the Chief Minister introduced many e-governance initiatives in the past and is now focusing on AI and Quantum Technology. Mr. Naidu transformed Hyderabad into an IT hub and has now set his sights on turning Amaravati into a Quantum Valley, Mr. Pemmasani added. The Home Minister, Vangalapudi Anitha, said it is for the first time that a hackathon has been organised by the police in the country. DGP Harish Kumar Gupta said the initiative will help reimagine the future of law enforcement through Generative AI and Agentic AI. More than 30 IPS officers closely worked with knowledge partner 4SightAI to identify and refine the most pressing challenges in policing. As a result, eight real-world, high-impact use cases were developed for direct deployment.

Singapore case against three on AI chip fraud charges adjourned until August 22
Singapore 's case against three men linked by local media to the illegal transfer of Nvidia 's AI chips from Singapore to Chinese artificial intelligence firm DeepSeek has been adjourned until Aug 22, the court ruled on Friday. At a hearing on Friday, the prosecution said the police would need more time to review new documents and seek responses from overseas parties in the investigations into the three men, Singaporeans Aaron Woon Guo Jie, 41, and Alan Wei Zhaolun, 49, as well as the Chinese national Li Ming, 51. They were earlier charged with committing fraud by making false representations to unnamed server suppliers about the end users of goods purchased in 2023 and 2024. The United States banned the export of high-end chips from Nvidia to China in 2022 amid concerns that they could be used for military purposes. A senior US official said that AI firm DeepSeek is aiding China's military and intelligence operations, Reuters reported on Monday. Singapore Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said in March that the authorities had ascertained that servers involved in the fraud case may contain Nvidia chips, and that they had investigated the case independently after an anonymous tip-off. The servers were supplied by Dell Technologies and Super Micro Computer to Singapore-based companies before they were sent on to Malaysia, although it was not clear if Malaysia was the final destination for the servers, he said. The Singapore case is part of a broader police investigation into 22 individuals and companies suspected of false representation, amid concerns that nations like Singapore have been involved in organised AI chip smuggling to China. In 2024, Singapore was Nvidia's second-biggest market after the United States, accounting for 18% of its total revenue in its latest fiscal year, a February filing by the chipmaker shows. Actual shipments to the Asian trading hub, however, contributed less than 2% of total revenue, as customers use it as a centre for invoicing sales to other countries.
