Ganapathi and Sagar Surya's Prakambanam launched

On Monday, Manjummel Boys actor Ganapathi and Pani-fame Sagar Surya's upcoming horror-comedy Prakambanam was launched in Kochi with a traditional pooja and switch-on ceremony, attended by its cast and crew. The film is directed by Vijesh Panathur, who earlier made his debut by co-directing the Dhyan Sreenivasan-Aju Varghese starrer Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna.
Scripted by Sreehari Vadakkan based on a story by Vijesh, Prakambanam also features Ameen, Mallika Sukumaran, Azees Nedumangad, P P Kunhikrishnan, Aneesh Gopal, and Sanesh Guinness in prominent roles. The film's technical team includes cinematographer Alby Antony, editor Sooraj E S and music director Bipin Ashok. It is jointly backed by Sreejith, Sudhish and Blessy under the banners of Navarasa Films and Lakshmikanth Creations, with Monsy Verghese, Dhilor Joseph and Rijosh George serving as co-producers.

Kalabhavan Navas laid to rest in Aluva, hundreds pay respects

Kochi: Scores of people from various walks of life, including prominent figures in the Malayalam film industry, paid their last respects to popular mimicry artist and actor Kalabhavan Navas when his body was kept for public homage at his residence and Town Juma Masjid in Aluva on Saturday. The mortal remains were interred at Town Juma Masjid around 6pm, in the presence of his family members and others. Navas was found unconscious in a hotel room in Chottanikkara on Friday night. He was taken to a nearby hospital where his death was confirmed due to heart failure. He was staying at the hotel after the last day of shooting for the upcoming Malayalam movie 'Prakambanam'. On Saturday, his body was taken to his residence on the Aluva-Perumbavoor road, around 1pm, after postmortem was conducted at the Ernakulam govt medical college hospital. His colleagues in the industry, including Lal, Sidique, Ramesh Pisharody, Sharafudheen, Bindu Panickar, Saikumar, Kalabhavan Shajon, K S Prasad, Kottayam Nazeer and others, paid their last respects. The autopsy report confirmed that Navas's death was due to heart failure. Signs of a previous heart attack were also found during the postmortem. Navas was found collapsed near the door of his hotel room, which was not locked. Actor Vinod Kovoor said in a Facebook post that Navas experienced chest pain on the set during shooting. The mortal remains of popular mimicry artiste and actor Kalabhavan Navas were interred at the Aluva Town Juma Masjid on Saturday evening. Hundreds of people from various walks of life, including his colleagues in the film industry, paid homage to him when the body was kept at his residence in Nalam mile along the Aluva-Perumbavoor route. Many had also turned up at the Juma Masjid to pay their last respects to the departed actor. Niyas Backer, actor and his brother, other family members were present at the time of his burial. Suspected heart failure Navas was found unconscious in a hotel room at Chottanikkara on Friday evening. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where his death was confirmed owing to suspected heart failure. A post-mortem was held at the Ernakulam Government Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning. He was staying in the hotel as part of the shooting of the Malayalam movie Prakambanam. K. S Prasad, noted mimicry artiste and his close friend, recalled that he had the opportunity to introduce Navas to Fr. Abel of Cochin Kalabhavan, who was instrumental in offering a creative platform to several mimicry artistes in Kerala. We are yet to come to terms with his loss, he said. Leader of the Opposition V. D Satheesan said in a release that Navas was instrumental in making a popular art form in society. M.V. Govindan, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), said in a communication that Navas had won the hearts of cinema lovers in the State.
