FORGET 250-JOHNSONVILLE WENT FULL SEND ON AMERICA'S 249TH BIRTHDAY WITH SAUSAGE, STAND-UP & A SKY-HIGH CELEBRATION
Fortune Feimster Brought the Laughs as Johnsonville Delivered the World's First Sausage Drone Show and a Coast-to-Coast, Summer-Long Birthday Bash for the Books All Assets, Including Footage and Photos of Feimster's Comedy Performance Accompanied by America's First-Ever Sausage Drone Show, HERE. SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis., July 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Johnsonville took center stage this Fourth of July with a celebration as unforgettable as it was unexpected—throwing one of the most delightfully unhinged birthday bashes in American history to mark the nation's 249th. Refusing to wait for the big 250, Johnsonville went all in on fun and togetherness. Comedian and national treasure Fortune Feimster lit up Summerfest presented by American Family Insurance. Bringing her signature relentlessly positive humor and infectious energy, Feimster delivered a comedic riff on the country's 'fun deficit,' as Johnsonville pulled out all the stops: karaoke booths, sausage cannons, a towering three-tiered cake, a Guinness World Record, coast-to-coast block parties with first responders, and the world's first-ever sausage drone show. The grand finale? A festival-wide singalong of 'Happy Birthday' led by Feimster herself—capping off a celebration that proved one thing: when it comes to bringing people together, nobody throws a party like Johnsonville. The Summerfest celebration was the focal point of Johnsonville's campaign to get the party started for America's 249th birthday in a major way. The campaign was built around Johnsonville's National Temperature Check survey, conducted by the Harris Poll, that found that nine-in-ten Americans agree we make more progress when we have fun together. That same survey revealed that Americans feel disconnected, and fun is taking a hit. 'I'm in the business of laughter because it's the fastest way to bring people together. And we are overdue for some togetherness,' said Feimster. 'Johnsonville understood the assignment: good food, big laughs and sausage drones. That's how connection happens. Let's hold on to that energy and keep the party going.' In May, while the White House was launching its countdown to 250, Johnsonville announced it wasn't waiting to celebrate, launching its massive Party Starter—an 80-pound, 249-link sausage pack complete with a collapsible hand cart. Fans could nominate the ultimate 'party starter' in their life to receive one just in time for July 4th. More than 20,000 people, from block party organizers and nonprofit leaders to everyday backyard hosts, entered to win, sharing stories about people who inspire them to connect with others. Johnsonville also hosted pop-up cookouts in Chicago and New York to celebrate first responders alongside national grilling experts and bestselling authors, The Grill Dads. 'We couldn't wait for 250—America's running low on fun, and the data backs it up,' said Jamie Schmelzer, Vice President of Marketing at Johnsonville. 'So for 249, we went big, weird, and joyful. Whether it was an 80-pound box of sausage, a thousand-person sing-a-long, or a cookout with local heroes, our goal was to spark real connection across the country. Huge thanks to Fortune Feimster for helping us lead the charge—because fun isn't just nice to have right now, it's how we move forward.' Johnsonville partnered with Milwaukee-based agency Hold Fast to bring the 249 vision to life, and with Sky Elements Drones, the largest drone light show provider in the US, to bring its patriotic, sausage-themed drone formations to the Summerfest sky. The brand's July 4 show is part of Sky Elements' attempt to set the Guinness World Record for 'Most Drone Shows in 24 Hours Performed by Different Pilots.' In total, the production company operated 25 drone shows across the country on July 4, nine of which were flown in one hour. The record attempt is awaiting review by the adjudicator. Economic Watch: Booming theme parks highlight China's tourism, consumption potential
SHANGHAI, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The opening of LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort in east China has added momentum to the country's thriving theme park sector, reflecting China's consumption upgrade and potential, as well as its commitment to opening up to the world. The resort in Shanghai, currently the largest LEGOLAND globally and the first in China, offers a new amusement option for Chinese citizens and foreigners visiting this metropolis. The opening of LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort on Saturday coincides with the beginning of the summer vacation, which is a tourism and consumption high season, especially for students. The cultural and tourism industries are becoming important growth drivers -- as the Chinese economy shifts to a consumption-driven pattern. Earlier this year, the Chinese government made it one of its major priorities to boost consumption and stimulate domestic demand across the board. It urged more efforts to foster new forms of cultural business and vigorously develop the tourism industry. Meanwhile, authorities also pledged better services and support for foreign investors, aimed at making China a favored destination for them. Foreign-funded theme parks have both attested to and benefited from these commitments. Notably, Shanghai Disney Resort and Universal Beijing Resort have achieved great success. More diversified demands for tourism products are driving an upgrade in terms of the offerings of this vibrant industry. For tourists who travel during summer holidays or take family trips, thematic or in-depth experience travels are becoming popular choices. This means that theme parks are expected to secure a sharp surge of visitors. Growing tourism consumption has contributed to China's resilient consumer market. In the first quarter of 2025, the number of domestic tourist trips reached over 1.79 billion, representing year-on-year growth of 26.4 percent. Total tourism expenditure hit 1.8 trillion yuan (209.7 billion U.S. dollars) in this period, up 18.6 percent year on year. Thanks to China's visa-free policies and related measures, the popularity of both travel and shopping in China among foreigners has risen, serving as a boost to the country's tourism development. Shanghai, being a prime example in this regard, received nealry 1.26 million foreign tourists in the first quarter of 2025 -- up 61.9 percent year on year. According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, from July to August, local authorities will organize 4,300 activities and provide subsidies totaling 570 million yuan to boost cultural and tourism consumption. The thriving tourism industry is injecting momentum into the Chinese economy, which grew 5.4 percent in the first quarter of 2025 and aims for an expansion of about 5 percent this year.

China's first Legoland opens to tourists in Shanghai
The Chinese branch of the British-owned theme park franchise is the biggest Legoland in the world. -- PHOTO: REUTERS SHANGHAI (AFP): Thousands of local tourists poured into China's first-ever Legoland as it opened its gates in Shanghai on Saturday, the latest theme park hoping to capitalise on a domestic tourism boom. The Chinese branch of the British-owned theme park franchise is the biggest Legoland in the world. It drew in early customers who flocked to attractions including a miniature train ride and a dragon-themed rollercoaster. "I personally love to play with Lego blocks and we have many sets at home... so I wanted to come to Legoland at the earliest opportunity," said Shi, a 35-year-old resident of nearby city Hangzhou, who was visiting the park with his wife and child. Eager Lego fans rushed into the park as soon as it opened. - Photo: Reuters Despite the Chinese economy's sluggish growth in recent years, domestic tourist spending grew 18.6 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the previous year, according to statistics. "Ever since the pandemic, I've made very few trips abroad," said Shi, adding his family now travels to theme parks around China "many times a year". Eager Lego fans rushed into the park as soon as it opened, wearing themed shirts and waving branded flags as they enjoyed the 318,000-square-metre (78.5-acre) compound in scorching temperatures. Beijing has announced subsidies intended to make travelling within the country more affordable for Chinese citizens, and is pushing local governments to heavily market their attractions on social media. Companies have taken note of the wider local tourism boom and stepped up their plans in China. The theme park is hoping to capitalise on a domestic tourism boom. - Photo: Reuters A new "Spider-Man" attraction at Shanghai Disneyland broke ground in May, while Warner Brothers is set to open a Harry Potter experience in Shanghai by 2027. Toy giant Hasbro said this week its giant Peppa Pig park in the city was now "in the phase of creative design". Chinese collectable toy maker Pop Mart has also opened an attraction in Beijing featuring life-sized versions of its popular Labubu toys. "The various provinces are putting a lot of effort into expanding their tourism industries, and all of them have special attractions," said Xu, a 34-year-old parent visiting Legoland on Saturday with his children. But profitability remains a problem, especially for local companies with less brand recognition. As of late 2024, around 40 percent of parks were still failing to turn a profit, according to state media reports. Yet analysts point to a growing population of retirees and job market changes as key factors pushing more locals to visit domestic attractions. "The labour market is turning more flexible," said Ernan Cui, China consumer analyst at Gavekal Research. "More people have leisure time to travel around." - AFP
