The teenager, a Class-XI student, died on Sunday after consuming pesticide. She was pregnant at the time, and the fetus did not survive. Her death has intensified scrutiny of local authorities and raised fresh concerns over the safety of minors in Haryana.
The case has sparked outrage in the local community, with calls for swift justice and greater protection for vulnerable minors. Police said the girl was taken to Tohana's civil hospital after falling seriously ill, then transferred to Maharaja Agrasen Medical College in Hisar's Agroha, where she died during treatment.
Her family claimed her ordeal had begun in Sept last year when a woman from the neighbourhood allegedly lured the girl to her home, offered her a drink laced with sedatives, and locked her in a room with four boys.
The family claims the group raped her, recorded the assault, and blackmailed her subsequently. The girl, later, confided in her mother and maternal uncle, revealing that she had been raped repeatedly by a neighbour's nephew — a local labourer — over several months and threatened with violence if she spoke out.
The girl's mother said, "My daughter told me that the accused man's aunt was also involved in the crime. The duo threatened her with dire consequences if the incident was shared with anyone." The family alleges that police failed to act swiftly in the days leading up to her death.
SP Siddhant Jain confirmed that two men and a woman were under arrest. DNA samples from the suspects are being matched with samples from the deceased to identify the primary perpetrator. "We have started an investigation into the case and we will arrest others, if their involvement is found. The accused were booked under Pocso Act and rape charges," Jain said.
