Sharp Semiconductor Innovation, IIT Hyderabad and WiSig Networks, successfully demonstrate Beyond 5G and 6G Technologies

SSIC, IITH & WiSig demoed B5G/6G at IITH: ASUKA SDR-UE + Open RAN base station hit 5G-class performance, paving Indo-Japan path to FWA, V2X, NB-IoT.
HYDERABAD, TELANGANA, INDIA, May 15, 2025 / EINPresswire.com / -- Sharp Semiconductor Innovation Corporation (SSIC), The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and WiSig Networks have announced the successful completion of ground-breaking field demonstrations for Beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G technologies. This collaboration signifies a major advancement toward Japan and India's shared vision of a digitally connected future.
The joint demonstrations, conducted at IITH Campus in Hyderabad, India, validated the performance and interoperability of SSIC's flexible Software-Defined Radio (SDR) System-on-Chip (SoC) User Equipment (UE) and WiSig Networks' Open RAN (O-RAN) base stations. The experiments showcased the compatibility and effectiveness of advanced communication terminals developed by Sharp Semiconductor Innovation Corporation in Japan.
Leveraging SSIC's state-of-the-art ASUKA SDR-Box, equipped with a versatile communication SoC designed to support future communications protocols, the trials confirmed high-quality wireless connectivity and performance comparable to existing commercial 5G SoCs.
Prof Kiran Kuchi of IIT Hyderabad, founder of WiSig Networks and a prominent contributor to 5G and 6G global standards including 3GPP, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: 'This initiative bridges academic excellence, industrial innovation, and international collaboration efforts, reinforcing the global partnership of India and Japan in next generation wireless communications.'
Toyofumi Horikawa from SSIC, who is a technical leader of development of the customizable SDR SoC, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership's outcomes: 'The results from tests and experiments carried out at the IITH campus demonstrate the immense potential of customizable SDR SoC platforms in accelerating the development of future wireless technologies. SSIC also exhibited its advanced SDR technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC25) in Barcelona. In 2026, we plan to further expand this collaboration for advanced communication protocol testing.'
WiSig Networks, a leading innovator in Open RAN and advanced 5G/6G technologies, played a crucial role in the integration and seamless operation of equipment throughout the trials. IIT Hyderabad's extensive indoor and outdoor facilities provided an optimal environment for comprehensive real-world wireless testing.
Prof. B.S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, remarked, 'This partnership underscores our commitment to fostering international collaboration and driving innovation in wireless communication technologies, placing IIT Hyderabad at the forefront of technological breakthroughs.'
The partners intend to deepen their collaborative efforts by focusing on advanced use cases such as Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), Mission-Critical Push-to-Talk (MC-PTT), autonomous navigation (V2X), and smart metering applications leveraging NB-IoT technology compatible with satellite communications.
This Indo-Japanese collaboration exemplifies the potential for international partnerships to shape global standards and drive innovation in next-generation wireless communications.

Growth funds favor Makemytrip and SK Hynix: BofA

-- Growth-oriented equity funds are increasingly concentrating bets in names showing strong earnings, price, and news momentum, according to Bank of America's latest Global Fund Performance Monitor. BofA highlighted that 'Growth funds' largest overweight positions with a high Triple Momentum Rank (top quintile by earnings, price, and news momentum) include Makemytrip (NASDAQ:MMYT), AIA, HDFC Bank, SK Hynix, and Genus (LON:GNS).' The firm's 'Triple Momentum' framework is said to identify stocks that score in the top quintile across all three metrics. On the flip side, some of Growth funds' largest overweights are in names lacking momentum, including Icon (NASDAQ:ICLR) Plc, Intermediate Capital, Clean Harbors (NYSE:CLH), and Azelis, BofA said. Value funds are also showing clear preferences, according to the bank. 'Value funds' largest overweight positions with a high Triple Momentum Rank include Capital One (NYSE:COF), US Foods, FirstCash (NASDAQ:FCFS), Popular Inc (NASDAQ:BPOP), and Markel (NYSE:MKL),' said BofA. However, negative momentum names such as Installed Building, Sysco (NYSE:SYY), ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), Lazard (NYSE:LAZ), and IAC still feature among top holdings. Despite a 4.4% rally in global equities during June, active fund managers struggled to beat their benchmarks. '46% of Active Funds globally outperformed benchmark with a median relative return of -0.09%,' BofA wrote. Growth and Value funds fared similarly, with 46% and 45% outperforming, respectively, while Yield funds underperformed with only 37% beating benchmarks. By region, Japan stood out, with '61% of Japan funds outperforming (+0.40%),' while Asia Pacific ex-Japan lagged, with just 38% outperforming and a negative median relative return. Shonen Jump's Comics App Now Lets You Read as Much Manga as You Want

Shonen Jump's manga reading app has long been one of the best deals in digital comics—free recent chapters, speedy turnaround on official translations of some of the biggest manga in the world, and access to a vault spreading across some of the biggest series in comics for $3 a month. But now the app is removing one particular hurdle that makes it even better. This week Shonen Jump announced in an email to subscribers that it was removing its 100-chapter-a-day reading limit from the app, which had been in place since the service launched in 2018, now letting users read as much manga as they want with no restrictions. Sure, 100 chapters of manga was a lot of comics to be reading in a single day in the first place, so it's unlikely that most but the absolute power users of the service regularly hit this cap. But now your marathon reads of the likes of One Piece, Naruto, Dragon Ball, Bleach, and the many, many more manga series with chapter counts in the multiples of hundreds can continue unimpeded. It's a smart move, considering the sheer number of manga series that have chapter counts that run well over a hundred chapters. Even if not too many people were regularly hitting the 100-chapter cap for a day, the fact that it's no longer there in their minds makes subscribers open to reading more, and trying more series out. You get to read a lot of comics, Shonen Jump gets a loyal subscriber, everyone wins. Except whoever now tries to binge all of One Piece in a handful of days just to prove a point. Romania's Bond Rally Set to Gather Pace With Rating Risk Reduced

Investors in Romanian sovereign bonds are welcoming long-awaited measures to curb the budget deficit, with the reduced risk of a credit-rating cut likely to fuel a further rally in the country's debt securities. The Black Sea nation's new government on Wednesday unveiled a broad package of spending cuts and tax increases to rein in the European Union's widest fiscal gap. The government plans to present the measures, which include raising the value-added tax and cuts in public sector wages, at next week's meeting of EU finance ministers.
