Driver who seriously injured two in crashes days apart in South and West Yorkshire jailed
Kallum Flowers, 35, was speeding in his white Ford Transit van when he hit Joshua Lloyd's Seat Leon after ignoring red lights in Rotherham on 22 June 2023.
He then fled and was driving an Audi RS3 six days later when he collided with a Vauxhall Corsa being driven by a 61-year-old woman in South Kirkby, West Yorkshire.
She suffered serious injuries in the crash.
Flowers, of Masefield Road, Rotherham, ran off from the scene. He was eventually arrested more than three months later, on 2 November.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving as well as failing to stop and failing to report an accident.
Flowers was jailed for six-and-a-half years at Sheffield Crown Court.
The court heard the crash involving Mr Lloyd sent his car 60m along Rotherham Road, where it collided with a wall.
The driver's door was ripped off and he was thrown from the vehicle.
Mr Lloyd continues to need constant care, South Yorkshire Police said.
Sgt John Taylor said: "Joshua sustained significant life changing injuries during the collision and our thoughts remain very much with him and his family today.
"It has been a very difficult period of time for them as their lives have been changed forever by this incident."
Following the incident Flowers was driven from the scene by 30-year-old Hannah Costello and went on the run.
He caused the second crash after failing to stop for police.
Flowers was eventually arrested by officers at an address in the Shiregreen area of Sheffield.
Sgt Taylor added: 'I am pleased that Flowers is now behind bars where he can cause no further harm to our communities. We will not tolerate drivers who deliberately ignore the rules of the road and put innocent people at risk.'
Costello was charged with assisting an offender and was given a suspended prison sentence of two years and three months.
