Welcome to updated around-the-clock by Capital Weather Gang meteorologists. Happening now: Partly sunny this morning as temperatures lift into the muggy 80s by mid- to late morning. Variable cloud cover this afternoon with a few pop-up showers or storms possible. What's next? Our steamy and stormy situation holds steady through the week as temperatures climb above 90 Thursday and Friday and pull back slightly this weekend. Today's daily digit — 4/10: It's undoubtedly uncomfortable, but the heat could be worse in mid-July. Plus, no flood watch today, so we can't protest that much.| 🤚 Your call? The digit is a somewhat subjective rating of the day's weather, on a 0-to-10 scale. Forecast in detail Today (Tuesday): Partly sunny skies this morning as temperatures lift from the 70s into the 80s. Highs reach the mid-80s to near 90 this afternoon with high humidity (dew points in the mid-70s), making it feel like the 90s. Some pop-up thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon into the evening, but they should be short-lived in most cases and less numerous than yesterday. Light winds are from the south at 5 mph, with higher gusts around any storms. Confidence: Medium-High Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers and storms, even overnight, as lows range from the low to mid-70s. Light winds are from the south at around 5 mph. Confidence: Medium-High Tomorrow (Wednesday): Partly to mostly cloudy and muggy, with scattered showers and storms, particularly in the late afternoon and evening. Highs reach the mid-80s to near 90 (dew points in the mid-70s again). Thunderstorms look to be more numerous than Tuesday with heavy downpours possible. There could be yet another flood watch. Winds are from the south again at 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High Tomorrow night: Our mugginess is maintained as evening thunderstorms fade. A shower or storm could still flare up overnight though as lows range through the 70s again. Confidence: Medium-High A look ahead Thursday and Friday offer a little more sunshine so that temperatures surge into the low 90s with heat indexes nearing 100 (dew points in low to mid-70s). Storm chances continue each day, especially in the afternoon and evening. Thursday and Friday nights are partly cloudy and uncomfortably muggy with lows in the 70s. Confidence: Medium-High The weekend delivers a very, very slight step down in humidity with temperatures also cooling into the upper 80s or right around 90 with partly to mostly sunny skies. Late day storms are possible either day. Under partly cloudy skies, lows at night are in the 70s. Confidence: Medium-High There's little change in the weather pattern next week meaning more high humidity and high temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s.
