ECE rises to second spot in TN engineering counselling amid tech job slump
ECE has become the second-most-sought-after course this year in TN engineering counselling, surpassing Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI&DS), and Information Technology (IT). Last year, after the first round, only 3% of seats in civil and mechanical courses were filled, but this year the admission figures for the streams have doubled to 6%, an analyst said.
The final allotment list after the first round of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) counselling released on Saturday revealed that out of the 39,145 students who took part in the counselling, 26,719 were allotted seats. As per the data, out of the total 36,748 seats available in Computer Science streams across the state, 7,526 seats have been taken, while ECE is placed second with 4,534 of the available 25,864 seats being taken in the first round. In the AI&DS stream, of the total 22,767 seats, 3,208 have been filled. At the end of round one, 15.42% of seats have been filled, almost 5% higher than last year. This year, a total of 1.72 lakh seats were available for general counselling in 425 colleges.
Notably, last year, following CSE, AI&DS had taken the second spot in the first round. In 2024, at the end of round one, 15.27% of CSE seats were filled, followed by AI&DS (13%) and IT (12.21%). ECE got the fourth spot with only 10.1% seats being filled in the first round last year.

Chief Minister Naidu hails success of ‘She Leads Andhra' pilot project in Kuppam
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has commended the success of 'She Leads Andhra' pilot project implemented in Kuppam Assembly Constituency. The project enabled 93 rural SHG women to generate ₹15 lakh in business in just 90 days through digital commerce, said Project Director, Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA), Vikar Marmat. Speaking to the media here on Sunday (August 3, 2025), the official said that the initiative, led by Frontier Markets in partnership with the Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA), leverages AI-driven 'Meri Saheli App' to equip rural women with the tools to become digitally enabled storefront owners. Based on the success of the pilot project, the Chief Minister announced an action plan to expand the project across the State. While the first phase of the project targeted 30,000 women in Chittoor district, the scheme is expected to cover over one lakh women across Andhra Pradesh during a three-year action plan, covering 50 lakh households, Mr. Marmat added. The project replicated the proven success of Frontier Markets' national model 'She Leads Bharat Udyam,' which has already empowered over 15,000 women in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. It may be mentioned here that during Mr. Naidu's recent visit to Kuppam, he held an interactive session with the women beneficiaries and received inputs first-hand from the grassroots level as how the model changed the landscape of rural living conditions, particularly the women, through linkage with 200-plus market partners, coupled with doorstep delivery in tier-5 and tier-6 villages. The project took shape after Frontier Markets Founder Ajaita Shah and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The initiative was later recognised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an effective move towards empowering rural women by grounding the strategic technology-enabled commerce modules, Mr. Marmat said.

DPIIT Secretary leads delegation to K-tech MeitY Nasscom Centre of Excellence for IoT/AI in Bengaluru
New Delhi [India], August 3 (ANI): A delegation led by Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Amardeep Singh Bhatia, along with CEO and MD, NICDC, Rajat Kumar Saini, Director, DPIIT and the Head of Startup India, visited the K-tech MeitY Nasscom Centre of Excellence for IoT and AI in Bengaluru. The visit aimed to engage with startups and incubation leaders, gain insights into the local innovation ecosystem, and identify opportunities for policy support to accelerate growth. Centre of Excellence, India's largest deep tech innovation hub, connects startups, innovators, enterprises, academia, and government to solve real-world challenges using cutting-edge technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Big Data, AR/VR, Machine Learning, and Robotics. The delegation interacted with startup founders and incubation managers to explore how these technologies can drive the future of manufacturing, logistics, and urban solutions. Following the Investors Roundtable Conference in Bengaluru, Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary, DPIIT, undertook a detailed review of the Tumakuru Industrial Area, a flagship project under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP). Secretary, DPIIT examined key milestones, including Phase A development covering 1,736 acres, progress on internal roads, drainage, and utility corridors, and initiatives to support investors. During the meeting with Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the EPC contractor, and HaskoningDHV, the PMC contractor for the project, highlighted the detailed updates on construction progress and major milestone deliverables. L&T assured the officials that they will speed up the work and finish key tasks on time so as to ensure that land allotment to Industries is started by the year-end. Secretary Bhatia urged all stakeholders to meet planned targets on schedule while upholding the highest quality standards to ensure Tumakuru Industrial Area attracts both global and domestic investment in sectors such as electronics, automotive, clean tech, and logistics. The delegation also visited Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Pvt. Ltd. and the Devanahalli Aerospace Special Economic Zone (SEZ), followed by a tour of Dynamatic Technologies, a leading manufacturer of aerospace components. The walkthrough provided insights into advanced manufacturing capabilities, precision engineering, and India's evolving role in the global aerospace supply chain. 1.8 crore jobs at risk? THESE three sectors likely to get impacted due to AI, new-age technologies, says report
New-age technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) are set to implement a 'seismic' shift in the industries affecting the jobs of more than 1.8 crore people over three key sectors by the year 2030, reported the news agency PTI. Manufacturing, Retail, and Education are the three sectors poised to be impacted by the effects of implementing AI into operations, according to the agency report. Out of the three sectors, the Manufacturing sector is expected to witness the worst hit from the AI transition, with 80 lakh workers set to be affected, followed by the Retail sector with 76 lakh jobs, and the Education sector with 25 lakh jobs affected in the next five years, reported the news agency, citing Servicenow data. High-automation roles like Change managers and Payroll clerk job roles are expected to be redefined by the AI agents, which will take over the routine coordination. However, "high-augmentation" job roles like the Implementation consultants and System admins are working and partnering with AI instead of competing with it. India's largest IT company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in the end of July 2025, announced that the company will be laying off almost 2% of its workforce, or more than 12,000 employees in the financial year 2025-26. The IT firm will focus the job cuts on the middle and senior management employees as part of its broader strategy to become 'future-ready' and focus on technological investments, AI developments, market expansion, etc. Mint reported earlier that TCS's total workforce stands at 6,13,069 people as of the April-June quarter of the financial year 2025-26. The news agency cited Sumeet Mathur, the managing director for Servicenow India Technology and Business Centre, who said that artificial intelligence is expected to create 30 lakh jobs in new technology by 2030. Artificial intelligence is also reshaping the workforce, and will "redefine" over 1.35 crore roles, said the executive, cited in the agency report. "India has a generational opportunity to lead globally by developing AI-ready talent, redesigning workflows, and reorienting business models around continuous innovation," said Sumeet Mathur. After conducting a more than 500-industry-leader survey on AI adoption, the company noted that 13.5% of tech budgets of the IT company are already pledged towards AI adoption, and one-fourth of the firms in India are already in their transformation phase. With data security as one of their top concerns, the Indian companies are highlighting the urgent need for strategic foresight and structured, cross-functional reskilling pathways in the market.
