Tea points across Karnataka to promote Indi lemons
The initiative, which began with the launch of a lemon tea point in Indi town, has received an encouraging response, prompting the board to expand the concept state-wide. Vijayapura district is the largest producer of lemons in Karnataka, with Indi taluk alone accounting for over 50 percent of the state's lemon production.
One of the key promotional strategies involves setting up lemon tea stalls at various public events, including agricultural fairs and flower exhibitions, to raise awareness about the quality of Indi lemons. Pickles made from the lemons have also been introduced, with around 200 kilograms already sold through the Indi stall. The pickles received notable demand during the recent Bengaluru Flower Show.
'The Lemon Tea Point initiative has taken off well in Indi, and we are planning to replicate it across Karnataka, including in Bengaluru, Dakshin Kannada, and Udupi in the next two months,' said Yashwantraigoud Patil, MLA from Indi.
'Our goal is to make Indi lemon a globally recognised brand. By launching tea points and promoting products like lemon pickle, we are showcasing the superior quality of lemons from Indi to a wider audience,' said H S Patil, In-charge Managing Director of the Board.

Sigachi Industries said the June 30th fire at its manufacturing unit in Pashamylaram, Hyderabad that left 46 people dead and 25 injured was caused by dust explosion in the spray drying machine and estimated to result in a revenue loss of ₹60 crore. Eight people remain missing after the incident. The report of an expert committee constituted by the government to investigate the incident is awaited. Sources say the committee has submitted the report. The company said operations at the 6,400 TPA facility were temporarily halted, impacting short-term production volumes. Preliminary estimates indicate a revenue impact of ₹60 crore over the affected period. 'Loss of profit during the closure period will be covered by business interruption policy. Sigachi is adequately insured for loss of profits. Insurance claims have been filed,' it said on Friday after the Board meeting on the June quarter financial performance. The company, which operates in the pharmaceutical sector, reported a consolidated loss of almost ₹101 crore for the first quarter as against a consolidated profit of nearly ₹13 crore in the corresponding period of previous fiscal. Total income increased to ₹132.18 crore (₹97.38 crore). Sigachi said a full safety audit has been launched across all its manufacturing sites. Damage assessment and phased restoration are underway at the Hyderabad unit. Production has been reallocated to other units, with operations at Dahej and Jhagadia continuing without disruption. The company has commenced making payments towards financial compensation and medical assistance for those affected by the incident, it said. MD and CEO Amit Raj Sinha said: 'Q1 FY26 has been an emotionally and operationally challenging quarter for us. The tragic incident led to the loss of lives and injuries among our workforce. Our immediate focus was on supporting families... The incident disrupted manufacturing operations, damaged plant infrastructure and inventory, and delayed shipments, impacting revenue and margins. We activated emergency protocols, launched a detailed safety audit, and have initiated phased restoration.'

‘Usurping family legacy': Why is Sunjay Kapur's company Sona Comstar in news days after his death
Rani Kapur, the mother of late billionaire Sunjay Kapur, has levelled a slew of allegations in a letter to the board of the Sona Comstar ahead of the scheduled Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday. Rani Kapur called her son Sunjay Kapur's death as "highly suspicious and unexplained circumstances." (X/Sunjay Kapur) The letter makes a series of allegations hours before the AGM, including one that she was "forced to sign documents behind locked doors" and that she was kept in the dark on the details regarding her son's death. The development comes over a month after Sunjay Kapur died during a polo match in England on June 12. Several reports said Sanjay died of a heart attack after swallowing a bee during the polo match. The board stated that it has received all the statutory disclosures and declarations from Sunjay's wife Priya Sachdev Kapur, including her written consent to act as Director in Form DIR-2 and an intimation in Form DIR-8 confirming she is not disqualified under the Companies Act. 'Priya Sachdev Kapur was appointed as a Non-Executive Director based on a nomination received from M/s Aureus Investments Private Limited. Her appointment was duly reviewed by the Board's Nomination and Remuneration Committee and approved by the Board of Directors of the Company,' a Sona Comstar statement said. She also said that she has been denied access to her accounts. Without naming anyone, Kapur said, "I was approached multiple times and compelled to sign various documents without explanation or even having time to read and understand the same." "Despite being under immense mental and emotional distress, I was coerced into signing such documents behind locked doors and though I've requested repeatedly, the contents of such documents have never been revealed to me," she added. 'Some usurping family legacy' Kapur asserted that by the virtue of the will executed by her late husband Surinder Kapur, she is the sole beneficiary of his estate and accordingly a major shareholder of the Sona Group, including the auto component firm. She also questioned the board's decision to appoint "certain people... as the largest shareholders." She went on to accuse some people of taking control and usurping the family legacy, while the family is still mourning. "I've been informed that certain people are representing themselves as being the largest shareholders of the Company since they claim to represent the interest of the family in the Company," she said. Rani Kapur seeks delay of Sona Comstar AGM, raises concerns over governance after son's death
Rani Kapur , former Chairperson of Sona Comstar and wife of late industrialist Dr Surinder Kapur , has urged the company's Board to postpone its 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for July 25, citing 'deep mourning' following the sudden death of her son, Sanjay Kapur , in the UK last month, ANI reports. In a letter to the Board and shareholders, Kapur raised serious concerns over transparency and governance, alleging that she was coerced into signing documents during a period of vulnerability and has since been denied access to key financial and corporate information. She also claimed that unauthorised individuals are attempting to push Board appointments without her consent, despite her position as majority shareholder in the Sona Group through her late husband's estate. 'I have not given any consent or nominated anyone to represent me,' she stated, while warning the Board that proceeding without her input would be seen as a deliberate act against the interests of the family and the company. The proposed AGM includes key resolutions that Kapur said could have long-term implications. She has requested a minimum two-week deferment to allow time for proper scrutiny. Her legal counsel, Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, confirmed the communication and said while no legal action has yet been initiated, the family expects a responsible response from the Board. The letter has also been marked to SEBI.
