Tear gas was used by the police to control the situation. Since then, a curfew has been in place in the village and its surrounding areas.

Hazaribag: Five members of a gang reportedly involved in international network of human trafficking were arrested. They used to send villagers to the USA through donkey routes against a huge sum of money, police said on Saturday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Superintendent of police (SP) Anjani Anjan said, "Five accused have been arrested in the case (32/25) lodged under the BNS on July 30 by one Sonu Kumar of Bharajo village under the Tatijharia police station limits of Hazaribag." Sonu, in his complaint, accused one Uday Kumar Kushwaha of Bharajo of being involved in the illegal trade for the past 45 years. Uday sent him to Brazil in 2024 and thereafter to USA through donkey route. Uday also sent one Bikash Kumar and one Pintu Kumar of Jarga village under the Daru police station limits to Brazil. In Brazil, the three were reportedly handed over to the international donkey mafia, which took them to the USA via road and river routes through Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras and Guatemala, the SP added. Sonu told police that he was in the custody of the mafia for 50 days. Uday demanded more money from Sonu's father, who sold their ancestral land and sent Rs 45 lakh to Uday's relatives. Sonu was sent to San Diego via Mexico City but was caught at the USA border and put in a detention centre, where he stayed for about four months. He was deported to India in March 2025. He was abused, beaten, and threatened by Uday and his brother Chohan Prasad when he demanded money after returning home, Sonu further claimed in the FIR. SP Anjan said a team, led by Vishnugarh sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Baijnath Prasad, arrested Uday, Chohan, Darshan Prasad of Budh Bazar, Lalmohan Prasad of Kesda, and Shankar Prasad of Meru. The search for other persons involved in the case is under way, he added.

It's Govt Money, What's going from our fathers' pockets, Maha Min's Comment Sparks Outrage

1 2 Nagpur/Akola: Maharashtra Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat landed in a fresh controversy after a public statement in Akola on Saturday, where he appeared to downplay accountability over public funds. Speaking at the inauguration of the Social Justice Bhavan, the Sena (Shinde) leader told the audience: "Ask for ₹5, ₹10, or even ₹15 crore for hostels or the social justice mandir. I'll approve it immediately. It's govt money… What's going from our fathers' pockets?" The comment, captured on video and now viral, sparked fierce backlash from opposition parties who accused the minister of displaying a cavalier attitude toward public resources. Eyewitnesses said those in attendance, including BJP MLA Harish Pimpale, NCP MLA Amol Mitkari, and Congress leader Sajid Khan Pathan were stunned into silence by his remark. Shirsat later attempted to clarify, stating the media distorted the context. "I encouraged people to avail funds under govt schemes. I said this money belongs to the people — it's not anyone's personal wealth. It should be used for welfare," he told TOI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo At the Akola event, he stirred discontent by taking a jibe at NCP's Mitkari from the same stage: "Mitkari, you're giving the media good TRP. But don't talk too much, or you'll suffer the same fate as us." This isn't the first time Shirsat courted controversy. On July 11, a video surfaced showing the minister seated beside a partially unzipped bag appearing to contain cash bundles. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut had shared the video on X, tagging Union home minister Amit Shah and demanding action. Shirsat dismissed the allegation, claiming the bag merely contained clothes. The controversy deepens as Shirsat's financial declarations also came under scrutiny. His assets reportedly jumped from ₹3.3 crore in 2019 to ₹35 crore in 2024. The Income Tax Department sought clarification over this nearly tenfold increase. As calls for an apology grow, opposition leaders argue that Shirsat's remarks reflect an alarming disregard for transparency and fiscal responsibility, especially coming from a cabinet minister. Despite CM Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde urging ministers to avoid controversial statements, political storms continue to cloud the Mahayuti govt's messaging. The Ludhiana rural police have arrested two members of a gang who were allegedly involved in firing at a jewellery shop in Jagraon to threaten the owner into paying protection money. (Representational image) The arrested accused have been identified as Gagandeep Singh alias Ghaddu, a resident of Kothe Baggu village, and Liaquat Ali alias Ali of Agwad Lope, Jagraon. The police recovered a .32 bore revolver, two magazines, and four live cartridges from their possession. According to senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ludhiana rural, Ankur Gupta, the assailants' intention was clearly to intimidate the jeweller into submission. 'This was a calculated act of terror meant to coerce the shop owner into paying extortion money,' he said. The incident took place in broad daylight on July 28 when two masked men arrived on a motorcycle and fired a shot at Kanda Jewellers located at Kamal Chowk. No injuries were reported. However, the threat escalated just hours later when the shop owner, Parminder Singh, received a WhatsApp call from an international number. The caller, identifying himself as a member of the Gopi Lahoria gang, demanded ₹20 lakh and warned of dire consequences if the demand was not met. The police acted swiftly, registering a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Arms Act. Teams were deployed to examine CCTV footage from multiple locations across Jagraon. Through detailed investigation, the identities of the accused were established, leading to the arrest of Ghaddu and Ali. The SSP revealed that the arrested duo had conducted recce of the shop and provided logistical support to the main shooters, who are still on the run. 'We have identified five other members of the gang involved in the conspiracy and are actively pursuing leads to nab them,' he added. The police have intensified their crackdown on criminal gangs operating in the region, particularly those using violent means to extort businessmen. 'We want to send a strong message that such criminal tactics will not be tolerated. More arrests will follow soon,' said the SSP.
