Supreme Court slams Ghaziabad jail for not releasing man over typo in bail order
The Supreme Court on Tuesday strongly criticised the superintendent of Ghaziabad jail for not releasing a man named Aftab, just because of a small typing mistake in the court's bail order.
Aftab, a Muslim man, had converted to Hinduism at an Arya Samaj temple in Tis Hazari so that he could marry a Hindu girl. The couple got married following Hindu rituals. However, after they eloped, the girl's aunt filed a missing persons report. This led to Aftab being charged under the Uttar Pradesh law that bans illegal religious conversions.
On April 29, the Supreme Court granted bail to Aftab. But the jail authorities refused to let him go, claiming there was a typographical error in the court's order.
The top court expressed anger over this, saying that such small mistakes should not stop someone's release from jail.

An eyewitness said that 'people fell over each other' and several lost consciousness in just a few minutes, mentioning that they hurried to the information centre for assistance. However, the witness mentioned that the centre was unable to help, and the ambulance was located approximately a kilometre from the scene, ANI reported. Swadhin Kumar Panda, who claimed to be at the spot around 4 am when it occured, said, 'People started exiting from the entrance itself, which increased the crowd', stressing the management was 'not good'. Pravati Das, 52, hailing from Balipatna, Basanti Sahu, 42, belonging to Godabhanga and Premakanta Mohanty, 78, from Bhubaneswar were pronounced dead. "When this incident happened, no one responded, neither the fire officials, nor the rescue team, nor the hospital team,' the husband of one of those killed informed ANI. The senior government official Siddharth Shankar Swain told AP, 'There was a sudden crowd surge of devotees for having a glimpse of the Hindu deities during which few people either fainted, felt suffocated or complained of breathlessness.' He added that15 people were taken to a local government hospital, where three people were declared dead and the other 12 were released. Autopsies are to be conducted for victims who died to know the precise reason of death.

Criminal cases will be registered against Mathavallis: Abdul Aziz
Nellore: WaQF Board Chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz reaffirmed the coalition government's commitment to protecting Waqf Board properties, warning that criminal cases will be filed against board members (Mutawallis) found responsible for illegally selling Waqf properties. Speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada on Saturday, Aziz announced that an ongoing inquiry into the sale of Waqf properties will lead to strict action against guilty members. 'Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is resolute about safeguarding Waqf properties, and there will be no compromise,' he stated. Aziz highlighted that the Central government halted funding to the Waqf Board due to the previous YSRCP government's failure to submit utilisation certificates for Rs 386 crore. He noted that the issue has been raised with Chief Minister Naidu, who is addressing it with the Central government. The Chairman announced the formation of a Rent Review Committee (RRC) to manage rents from approximately 1,300 Waqf Board shops. To address issues like property sales and rent disputes, future Waqf Board meetings will be held across all districts, moving away from the earlier practice of convening only in Vijayawada. Aziz also revealed that the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) applied to establish an MSME Park at Mallayapalem village in Guntur mandal. The Waqf Board decided to lease the land long-term to APIIC instead of permanently transferring it. Additionally, Rs 1.5 crore has been allocated for the development of Barashahid Dargah in Vijayawada, with further funds designated for the development of Kasumur and AS Pet Dargahs. Waqf Board Director SK Nasir stated that rental income will support the education of underprivileged Muslim students, their marriages, and the state government's P-4 initiative.
