Landmine blast kills 4 people, wounds some others in restive northwest Pakistan
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A landmine explosion killed four people and wounded a number of other in northwest Pakistan's restive Kurram district on Wednesday, police said.
The blast occurred when one of the victims stepped on the device in a forested area in Kurram, where sectarian clashes between Shiites and Sunnis Muslims left 130 people dead last year.
Habibullah Khan, the district police officer, said the dead and an a number wounded were transported to a hospital in Kurram, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that borders Afghanistan. He did not say how many people had been wounded.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast and Khan said they are investigating the incident in Kurram, which has a history of sectarian conflict with militant Sunni groups previously targeting minority Shiites.
A ceasefire brokered by local elders has largely held between Sunni and Shiite tribes in Kurram since January. Although sporadic gun attacks between the two sides are not uncommon in the region, landmine blasts are rare.
Shiite Muslims dominate parts of Kurram, although they are a minority in the rest of Pakistan, which is majority Sunni. The area has a history of sectarian conflict.

(Reuters) -An explosive-laden car rammed into a Pakistani military convoy on Saturday in a town near the Afghan border, killing at least 13 soldiers, sources said. Four Pakistani intelligence officials and a senior local administrator told Reuters that the convoy was attacked in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan district. Around 10 other soldiers were wounded, some critically, and they were being airlifted to a military hospital, the sources said. The lawless district which sits next to Afghanistan has long served as a safe haven for different Islamist militant groups, who operate on both sides of the border. Islamabad says the militants run training camps in Afghanistan to launch attacks inside Pakistan, a charge Kabul denies, saying the militancy is Pakistan's domestic issue. Pakistani Taliban also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an umbrella group of several Islamist militant groups, has long been waging a war against Pakistan in a bid to overthrow the government and replace it with its own Islamic system of governance. At least 13 soldiers killed in suicide bombing in northwestern Pakistan
More than a dozen soldiers have been killed and dozens of people were wounded in a suicide attack in northwestern Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said. Saturday's attack was carried out in Khadi Market, Mir Ali, North Waziristan, according to a local media outlet, Khyber Chronicles, which quoted security sources. Security officials said the attacker detonated explosives near a bomb disposal unit vehicle, killing 13 people. At least 24 personnel, including 14 civilians, were also injured in the attack, the report said. 'A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy,' a local government official in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province told the AFP news agency separately. Suicide bombing in Pakistan kills 8 soldiers and wounds 30 people
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A suicide bombing in northwest Pakistan on Saturday killed at least eight soldiers and injured 25 people, including civilians, officials said. The attack targeted a military vehicle in North Waziristan around lunchtime despite a curfew across the tribal district to facilitate the movement of security forces, the intelligence officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the issue with the media. The wounded were 25 soldiers and 10 civilians, including children, the officials said. Footage of the blast in Khadi village showed bandaged children lying on the floor near shattered glass and debris. The intelligence officials did not say what caused the blast and there was no immediate claim of responsibility. However, the Pakistani Taliban and other armed groups operate out of the country's northwest. Under the curfew, the main roads from Bannu to Miranshah and up to the Afghan border were closed to traffic.
