Shweta Tiwari and Raja Chaudhary's marriage ended on a bitter note. Raja opens up about their rushed wedding, family tensions, and how fame changed their relationship.
Television actress Shweta Tiwari's ex-husband Raja Chaudhary is once again in the spotlight, shedding light on his past with her. Speaking in a candid interview, he shared details about their whirlwind romance, the family resistance they faced, and how their relationship deteriorated over time—allegedly after Shweta's rising success on TV.
They crossed paths during a shoot and quickly grew close. 'We dated only for 2-3 months, then we got married. She said that she was 19 but I always felt she was older, maybe 20-21. I was also 24-25 years old at the time. We got married in a rush. And then, shortly afterwards, our daughter was born. And soon after our daughter was born, she started getting those Ekta Kapoor serials," he said, in a chat with Hindi Rush.
While their relationship began with love, it didn't take long for differences to surface. Raja admitted that the cracks were visible quite early, even though they officially separated several years later. 'We broke up some 6-7 years later and all this while, she would be on set and I would be at home, taking care of the daughter and taking care of the house," he said and added, 'Awara dost bhi bana raha hu, usme kya hai? Gharwale kehte hain jo log sharab peete hain woh log awara hote hain. Toh kuch aise sharabi log maine dost bana liye," he said.
Their marriage had opposition from both sides, but they went ahead with it regardless. Raja shared how both families warned them against rushing things. 'My family said, 'wait, let us see what's up' but I didn't listen to them. I said I will get married the next day. It was a mutual decision. Even her family members said, 'don't get married' but she snuck out of the house with her brother and came to the court to get married," he said.
Shweta eventually became a well-known face in every Indian household after landing the lead role in Kasautii Zindagii Kay. According to Raja, this shift brought more tension into their personal life. 'Life changed after her show became a huge hit. Then she started charging money by the hour. We were not struggling anymore. It felt like we are doing it together. It was later that I realised that she was doing it all by herself. I felt like I was a background dancer. There was too much attitude in her when she became successful, she stopped treating me like a person," he said.
Opening up on his strained relationship with daughter Palak Tiwari, Raja said, 'She [Shweta] didn't let me meet my daughter. She divorced me on a condition that I never meet my daughter. After a legal battle of about 8-10 years, I finally gave up.I was like, 'Beti bhi na mil, tu bhi na mil'. In all this process, a father dies. You can't meet your child, fatherhood gets killed."
Their marriage, which lasted from 1998 to 2007, ended on an extremely bitter note, with Shweta accusing Raja of domestic abuse and infidelity. Their daughter, Palak, who was born soon after their wedding, has since followed in her mother's footsteps and entered Bollywood with Salman Khan's Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
