E-Visa Platform Draws Half a Million Applicants, Reinforces Morocco's Global Reach

Morocco World4 days ago
Nearly half a million people have turned to Morocco's e-visa platform over the past three years, a figure that shows the rising interest in the country and the growing impact of its digital shift in consular services.
The platform processed 187,895 applications in its third year alone.
The increase compared to the previous year signals that the system has reached a new level of maturity and that more travelers are choosing it as a reliable and efficient entry point to Morocco.
Tourism accounts for the overwhelming majority of applications. About 94.1% of e-visas were granted for tourism purposes, confirming the platform's importance in supporting Morocco's appeal as a travel destination.
About 5.9 percent of e-visas went to business travelers, showing how the platform also supports Morocco's economic ties and growing network of international partnerships.
Open to 118 nationalities, the service offers two formats. The standard visa is processed within 72 hours, while the express version delivers approval in just 24.
For many travelers, this efficiency has turned what was once a complex procedure into something simple and accessible.
The e-visa has also proven its value during major international events held in Morocco.
When the country hosted the 2023 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Marrakech, people from 109 countries used the platform.
The GITEX Africa Morocco editions followed suit, welcoming participants from 118 nationalities in 2024 and 117 in 2025.
Its growing success now feeds into Morocco's preparation as a co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
With a system that eases entry and opens the door to more visitors, Morocco strengthens its ability to receive fans and delegates from around the world and rise to the scale of the event. Tags: E-visae-visa platformMorococVisa

World Cup 2030: Akhannouch Calls It ‘Strategic Transformation Accelerator'

Marrakech – Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch stated Friday that Morocco's co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal represents far more than a global sporting event – it serves as a 'strategic transformation accelerator' for the North African country. Speaking via video address at the 8th Morocco Today Forum (MTF) in Rabat, the country's executive leader outlined the tournament's transformative potential. 'It's an opportunity to realize, at all levels, the Royal Will to consolidate the foundations of a dynamic, inclusive and sovereign Morocco,' he said. The forum, held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, centered on the theme 'Vision of a King – Morocco 2030: Consolidating the Foundations of a Great Nation.' Akhannouch mentioned numerous projects either completed or underway throughout the country. These include internationally-compliant infrastructure, high-speed rail networks, major airport hubs, highways, urban ring roads, and tourism and hospital infrastructure. He added that Morocco's partners, including global leaders in their respective sectors and national businesses, are engaging with opportunities created by the country's openness to cutting-edge industries, clean energy, telecommunications, digitalization and other promising sectors. 'In many sectors, Morocco is moving toward becoming a continental, regional, and even international reference,' he continued. 'The organization of the 2030 World Cup will come to consolidate and accelerate this metamorphosis of Morocco under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI,' Akhannouch asserted. The prime minister noted that sporting infrastructure is experiencing considerable development to meet top international standards. These facilities are designed not only to host major international sporting events but also to drive growth and social cohesion across multiple cities. He pointed out that the hotel sector is undergoing profound overhaul, supported by unprecedented growth in demand for Morocco as a destination, with a record 17.4 million tourists in 2024. 'It's about embodying tomorrow's Morocco' In his contribution to the forum, Youssef Amrani, Morocco's Ambassador to the United States, framed the 2030 World Cup as more than a privilege – it's 'a moral contract with oneself and with the world.' 'It's not about building a few stadiums or developing infrastructure. It's about embodying tomorrow's Morocco,' Amrani said. 'A horizon cannot be decreed. It must be prepared for, anticipated, and earned.' The MTF 2025 is structured around three key panels: placing human capital at the heart of development, accelerating sustainable and inclusive economic growth, and building a resilient 'Digital Nation.' Mohammed Haitami, president of Le Matin Group which organizes the forum, clarified that this prestigious global sporting event is not merely about hosting twenty football matches but driving a national leap forward. 'It's a unique opportunity to mobilize the country around a structuring project, to modernize our infrastructure, to converge our efforts toward the same goal,' Haitami explained. The planned investment approaches MAD 500 billion ($50 billion). The event is gathering national and international decision-makers, researchers, and key figures from the sports, economic, digital, and media sectors. High-level participation includes the Head of Government, six ministers, and Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the 2030 World Cup Committee, alongside Miguel Ángel Moratinos, former Spanish minister and current UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations. Based on projections from FIFA and macroeconomic analyses cited by Ambassador Amrani, the World Cup could generate a direct and indirect impact equivalent to 4% of Morocco's GDP through investment, employment, tourism, and global image enhancement. Since its inception in 2016, the MTF has established itself as a space for strategic reflection aligned with the Royal Vision. Each edition produces a White Paper submitted to decision-makers as a contribution to national development strategy. Throne Day: Celebrating Forward-Looking Royal Vision for Emerging, Modern & Prosperous Morocco

Moroccans will celebrate the glorious Throne Day on July 30, an occasion to proudly celebrate the proactive, foresighted and forward-looking vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who transformed the Kingdom into an emerging, modern and prosperous country. Throne Day stands as a powerful moment of national unity, as well as an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and to look toward an even more promising future. It is the resounding expression of unwavering bonds between the Glorious Alaouite Throne and the loyal Moroccan people. This year's anniversary of the King's Accession to the Throne comes as the Kingdom is reaping the fruits of 26 years of tireless work, under a modernist project shaped and implemented through the impetus of a visionary Sovereign. Major structural reforms have deeply transformed Morocco economically, socially, culturally, institutionally, and in the realm of sports, driven by a dynamic wave of all-encompassing reforms that have touched all vital sectors of the country and the entire national territory. This was echoed by Former head of Spanish government José-Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, in an interview with MAP-Madrid, underlining that today, more than ever, Morocco stands as a 'beacon of economic, social and institutional modernization'. Nowadays, the Kingdom boasts high-quality infrastructure in diverse areas, including highways and expressways, with a network exceeding 2,000 km and expected to reach 3,000 km by 2030; Africa's first high-speed rail line (LGV); and world-class ports such as Tanger Med, ranked among the top 20 container ports globally and the leading port in both the Mediterranean and Africa. Other ambitious projects include Nador West Med and Dakhla Atlantique ports. To many observers, Morocco stands out in energy and green transition as a global and African leader in renewables, with internationally renowned solar and wind power plants and ambitious green hydrogen production projects. Economically, the Kingdom is now recognized as a logistics and industrial hub in strategic sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and agri-food. Today, it is currently well-positioned to join the top 50 of the World Bank's "Doing Business" rankings. These extensive efforts are accompanied by significant social and human development reforms, reflecting His Majesty the King's deep humanistic and social sensibility, who continuously places a high priority on ensuring disadvantaged populations benefit from the benefits of national development. In an interview with MAP-Paris, French geopolitician Frédéric Encel noted that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is engaged in an 'impressive' development momentum, earning it recognition as 'a true emerging country'. In this spirit, programs such as the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) and the massive project of universal social coverage are ongoing, alongside flagship projects such as the reform of the Family Code, digitalization of public services, and the education sector. Since His Majesty's accession to the throne, Morocco has strengthened its geopolitical positioning through efficient, assertive and proactive diplomacy, securing numerous achievements in defending the Kingdom's territorial integrity. In an interview with MAP-Brussels, Francis Delpérée, constitutional expert and former Belgian senator, joined in praising the diplomatic advancements achieved by the Kingdom, thanks to the insightful vision of His Majesty the King. To him, these successes have helped garner broad international support, particularly from major world powers, for a definitive resolution of the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, based on the Moroccan Autonomy Plan. In recent years, Morocco's national cause has made significant strides thanks to the strong impetus and direct involvement of His Majesty the King, who has laid out the Kingdom's fundamental stance on the Moroccan Sahara. Following the United States, Spain, France, and recently the United Kingdom have aligned with this approach. In total, no fewer than 123 countries globally now support Morocco's Autonomy Initiative. On the African continent, Morocco continues to build its presence and image as a nation that acts for Africans and with Africans. Following its triumphant return to the African Union in 2017, Morocco launched major initiatives for the continent, including the Royal Atlantic Initiative, enabling Atlantic Ocean access to the landlocked Sahel countries, and the African Atlantic States Process, along with the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline. Sports is another sector where Morocco has made major strides in recent years. Results on the ground reflect the rising profile of national sport, guided by a perceptive and visionary Royal Vision. Morocco, the first Arab and African country to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, continues to shine in sports, through competitive performance, infrastructure development, and training programs. Crowning this momentum, Morocco has been chosen by FIFA to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. This is the first time the tournament will be held across two continents, underscoring Morocco's unique role as a bridge between North and South. In this regard, Zapatero expressed confidence in Morocco's ability to successfully co-host the 2030 World Cup, highlighting the country's 'professionalism,' 'infrastructure,' and the 'enthusiasm' of the Moroccan people. Throne Day remains a solemn moment for all Moroccans to jointly celebrate these achievements, reflecting the maturity of a societal project crafted and led by a visionary Sovereign who remains attentive to His people and their concerns. Morocco Prepares for 2030 FIFA World Cup with New National Sports Foundation

Morocco's House of Representatives passed a new bill on Tuesday to establish the 'Fondation Maroc 2030', a national body dedicated to overseeing preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup and other major international sporting events. The bill, adopted with 112 votes in favor and only one against, received no abstentions. Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Faouzi Lekjaa, presented the bill as part of Morocco's broader vision to meet the Royal Directives that call for well-structured planning ahead of the tournaments. He described the moment FIFA officially confirmed Morocco as a host country for the 2030 World Cup as a turning point. For Lekjaa, it confirmed the trust of the international community in Morocco's ability to deliver at a global level. But the foundation's purpose goes beyond football. Lekjaa spoke of an opportunity to support national development, expand infrastructure, strengthen Morocco's economic position, and create jobs, especially for young people. He noted that global events of this scale give Morocco a chance to deepen its appeal as a tourist destination and elevate its international profile. 'The Fondation Maroc 2030' will bring together different sectors and institutions under one unified structure. Its role will involve organizing and coordinating football tournaments such as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the World Cup, while working alongside government agencies and local authorities. The foundation will also support host cities and regions, follow up on national commitments, and help present Morocco as a capable host for major events. The structure of the foundation includes a president, who also heads the World Cup 2030 Committee, and an executive council drawn from government departments. Lekjaa also detailed the creation of a consultative council composed of representatives from the private sector, civil society, and Moroccans living abroad. This council will offer recommendations to strengthen national engagement. A separate committee led by the Minister of the Interior will handle coordination across territories. Day-to-day management will be entrusted to a director general responsible for applying decisions made by the executive council. Lekjaa described the new foundation as a strategic mechanism rather than a bureaucratic one. It reflects a national effort rooted in participation and wide consultation.
