Power ministry launches task force to develop India energy stack platform
The Ministry of Power on Saturday announced the launch of a task force to conceive the India Energy Stack (IES), an initiative aimed at creating a unified, secure, and interoperable digital public infrastructure (DPI) for the energy sector.
The IES will play a vital role in integrating renewable energy, enhancing DISCOM efficiency, and delivering transparent, reliable, and future-ready power services, an official statement quoted Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar as saying.
There is an urgent need for developing robust DPI in the power sector to manage the country's rising demand, ensure grid stability, and empower consumers. What Aadhaar did for identity and UPI achieved for digital payments, the India Energy Stack will accomplish for the power sector - unlocking seamless, secure, and consumer-centric energy services for every citizen," he added.
As India charts its path to becoming a USD 5 trillion economy and advances towards its net-zero commitments, the power sector faces both unprecedented opportunities and complex challenges, the statement said.
Rapid growth in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and consumer participation in energy markets is transforming the sector, but fragmented systems and a lack of seamless digital integration remain key barriers, it pointed out.
To address these issues, the ministry is reimagining the sector's digital foundation through the IES - a DPI that will provide a standardised, secure, and open platform to manage, monitor, and innovate across the electricity value chain.
The IES will offer unique IDs for consumers, assets, and transactions; real-time, consent-based data sharing; open APIs(Application Programming Interface) for seamless system integration; and tools for consumer empowerment, market access, and innovation.
Apart from conceiving the IES, the ministry will undertake a 12-month Proof of Concept (PoC) to demonstrate IES through real-world use cases in partnership with selected utilities.
This includes piloting the Utility Intelligence Platform (UIP), a modular, analytics-driven application built on IES to support utilities, policymakers, and consumers with real-time insights and smarter energy management.
To guide these initiatives, the ministry has constituted a dedicated task force comprising experts from the technology, power sector, and regulatory domains, which will steer the development, pilot implementation, and nationwide scale-up of the IES.

New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): India will continue to grow robustly, even among major industrialised G7 countries, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) said in a report on 'Population, Productivity, Partnership: Rethinking G7-India Collaboration'. The PHDCCI report added that with an average real GDP growth of more than 8 per cent from 2021 to 2024, India has consistently outpaced all G7 countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. IMF's 2025 projections indicate that India will maintain a growth trajectory above 6 per cent (average) through 2029, supported by robust domestic demand, sound macroeconomic fundamentals, and its demographic dividend, the report said. 'India's consistent real GDP growth makes it the key growth driver for the world economy. The transformative reforms, including GST, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Act, the Production Linked Incentive Scheme, growing digital infrastructure (Aadhaar and UPI) and Make in India, among others, are strengthening India's ascendancy in the World', said Hemant Jain, President, PHDCCI. The objective of the report was to assess India's growth and trade dynamics among G7 economies. In terms of purchasing-power-parity (PPP) terms, India's share in global GDP has surged from 7.0% in 2020 to 8.3 per cent in 2024, and is anticipated to exceed 9 per cent by 2029, he said. A crucial underlying factor is the demographic divergence between India and the G7, said Jain. India's working-age population (15-64 years) is projected to increase in the coming years, with over 68 per cent of its population currently between 15-64 years. This demographic dividend supports labour supply expansion, boosts domestic consumption, and enhances the innovation ecosystem through a vibrant startup culture and rising tertiary education enrolment, said Jain. Further, India's share of the total population ages 65 and above constitutes less than 5 per cent (2025). Conversely, G7 nations are confronting demographic headwinds as their share is more than 10 per cent, highlighting rapidly ageing populations, shrinking labour pools, and rising old-age dependency ratios, said Jain. By 2030, this share is expected to double or more than double for the G7 economies. 'This is likely to slow potential output, reduce consumer demand, and increase fiscal burdens related to pensions and healthcare, said Jain. Notably, India's merchandise trade with G7 countries has surged by 61 per cent, rising from USD 154 billion in FY 2020-21 to USD 248 billion in FY 2024-25, maintaining a steady trade surplus. 'This reflects India's growing export competitiveness, indicated by the commodity net export price index, bolstering its external sector resilience, Jain added. The industry body said in the report that key global initiatives led by India--the International Solar Alliance, Mission LiFE, and the Global Biofuels Alliance--are shaping a greener, more inclusive world. In the technology and digital governance space, India highlighted its commitment to a human-centric and ethical approach to AI, showcasing initiatives like BHASHINI and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as global models. The report added that a strategic collaboration in areas including clean and renewable energy, climate finance, Digital Public Infrastructure, Trade & Supply Chain Resilience, Maritime & Indo-Pacific Security and Healthcare & Pharma will drive a mutually beneficial growth trajectory. JMM criticises poll panel over spl electoral revision in Bihar
Ranchi: Ruling JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya on Saturday criticised the Election Commission (EC) over its special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar ahead of its assembly polls this year, claiming that the EC is allegedly trying to compromise the fundamental rights of the voters. His remark came after the EC's proposal to verify the eligibility of every voter in poll-bound Bihar. "The EC's proposed exercise poses serious concerns over the future of democracy in the country. In its tagline, the EC says 'no voters left behind' to ensure voting rights to everyone, contradicting its stance in Bihar, where they are trying to hold the upcoming polls, leaving behind the voters. The commission has dictated to the eight crore voters of Bihar to prove their origins within a month, a seemingly impossible task," Bhattacharya said, addressing the media. The JMM general secretary further criticised the EC over not allowing unique identifications certified by the Union govt like Aadhaar cards and EPIC as valid documents to prove their origins and said, "The verification process is deliberately being made complex to avoid BJP's defeat in the upcoming Bihar election. The move is aimed at bypassing the election and imposing the President's Rule in Bihar."
