Patricia de Lille reacts to alleged R100m SA Tourism tender scandal
This relates to the hosting of flagship trade event Meeting Africa and Africa's Travel Indaba which happened early this year.
The department allegedly awarded a R100 million rand tender to a company that failed to show proof of experience, and which provided false and misleading information in its bid.
In a statement by the Department of Tourism it denied these allegations.
The department said no tender worth R100 million was awarded.
It further emphasised that the countries tourism is commissioned by two independent firms who conduct a probity and forensic review of all tender processes.
"Their findings were received, reviewed and informed internal consequence management actions. I have been informed by the South African Tourism that the cost of both audits were less than R1 million."

Munoz, who worked as an engineer on board the Far From It yacht, was not required to enter a plea. The magistrates court heard Bell was found partially clothed and bloodied, with slash wounds to her neck and defensive injuries on her arms – suggesting she fought for her life. Munoz was reportedly discovered lying close by with injuries on his arms, in what authorities suspect may have been a failed suicide attempt. He was rushed to hospital before being charged. Described by friends as a 'golden girl,' Bell was reportedly just days away from returning to South Africa to celebrate her 21st birthday on 14 July. Bell's former school, Hillcrest High School, in KwaZulu-Natal, paid tribute to her on social media. Three suspects caught stealing eThekwini Municipality's electrical assets
Three suspects were arrested in Buffelsdraai for stealing eThekwini Municipality's electrical infrastructure. Image: Supplied Three suspects are expected to appear in court soon after being caught in Buffelsdraai with eThekwini Municipality's electrical infrastructure valued at just under R100,000. In a statement, the municipality said the suspects were caught with two sealed drums of electrical cable, along with brand new streetlight poles and fittings, and all these were confirmed to be municipal property. The city said it received a tip-off about a private residence, and the successful operation was carried out with the South African Police Service, the Revenue Protection Branch, the metro police, and the eThekwini District Economic Infrastructure Task Team. 'Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects are part of a broader illegal electricity connection syndicate targeting the city's infrastructure. It said it would be adding charges of fraud for misrepresentation and impersonation of a municipal contractor – an act that brings the city's name into disrepute. 'The city is continuing its internal investigation to determine how municipal infrastructure landed in the hands of criminals. Further arrests are expected as efforts intensify to dismantle the syndicate and recover stolen assets.' The city said this successful operation was one of many to come as it strengthens its resolve to safeguard critical infrastructure. Accelerate continues with R100 million rights offer amid large related-party uncertainties
JSE-listed Accelerate Property Fund, which owns 50%of Fourways Mall, will undertake a R100 million rights issue on July 14, 2025, to further improve the mall and for the company's working capital requirements. Image: Fourways Mall/Facebook Accelerate Property Fund (APF), which has Fourways Mall Shopping Centre as its main asset, said Friday a R100 million rights offer that opens on July 14 will continue, in spite of uncertainty about the outcome of a R800m agreement with the developer of the mall. APF's share price fell 5.56% to 51 cents on Friday, much in line with the share price of 53 cents that it traded at a year earlier. 'APF remains committed to restructuring its operations with a focus on improving the Mall as APF's largest asset. The opening of the rights offer… is an important step towards the completion of these restructuring efforts, the proceeds of which will be utilised for improvements of the Mall and working capital needs of APF,' a notice said Friday. APF's directors said the rights issue would add to the R200m already raised by APF in a rights offer in June 2023. Meanwhile, a settlement agreement entered into in November last year, between APF and co-developer of the mall, Azrapart, had lapsed due to suspensive conditions not being fulfilled in the requisite timeframe. Last month, media reports showed Azrapart was placed into business rescue by the High Court in Bloemfontein, following an application by FirstRand's RMB and Investec, but Azrapart is appealing the ruling. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading Other parties to the agreement with APF are Accelerate Property Management Company, the manager of the properties owned by APF other than the Mall; Fourways Mall Managing Agent and Fourways Precinct, the former manager of the Mall; the trustees of the Michael Family Trust; and APF's former CEO Michael Georgiou, who also controls Azrapart. Shareholders were previously told that APF would engage with the parties to conclude a new agreement, on the same or close to the same terms as the initial settlement agreement. 'Although both parties have indicated their willingness to sign the new agreement, the new agreement has not yet been concluded…and negotiations with the related parties are ongoing.' Should the new agreement be concluded, the balances due to and from the related parties would be offset to R0. Should the new agreement fail to be concluded, R800m, being the amounts receivable from the related parties, might be impaired by APF. APF said it would publish its results for the year to March 31, 2025, by July 31, 2025, whether or not the new agreement was concluded between APF and the related parties. If the new agreement was not concluded, legal advice would be sought about the validity and quantum of the claims.
