The crescent will set 39 minutes after sunset in Qatar, with visibility duration increasing further westward.
Astronomical principles dictate that the movement of the moon around Earth determines the start and end of Hijri (Islamic) months.
The movement of Earth around the sun governs the start and end of Gregorian months.

Fuel switches cut off before Air India crash: Probe
Fuel supplies to the engines of the Air India jet that crashed last month, killing 241 people on board, were cut off apparently without either pilot having switched them off, a preliminary report into the disaster said. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off on June 12 in what is one of the deadliest plane accidents in terms of the number of British nationals killed. The report from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau said the jet was carrying 54,200 kilograms of fuel, which was within the 'allowable limits.' The report said: 'The aircraft achieved the maximum recorded airspeed of 180 Knots IAS at about 08:08:42 UTC and immediately thereafter, the Engine 1 and Engine 2 fuel cutoff switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec.' Kaaba Kiswa replaced as Hijri Year 1447 begins
MAKKAH: The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque held the ceremonial changing of the Kiswa, the black silk covering of the Holy Kaaba, in observance of the start of the Islamic year 1447 AH. The new Kiswa, weighing 1,415 kilograms and measuring 14 meters, has been installed. It consists of four separate sides and the curtain of the door. The belt of the Kiswa comprises 16 pieces, in addition to seven pieces below the belt, 17 lanterns beneath the belt, آ four panels inscribed with Surat Al-Ikhlas (a Quranic verse), and one piece representing the decoration of the mizab (water spout). The Kiswa consumes around 825 kilograms of raw silk, dyed black within the complex, 120 kilograms of gold-plated silver threads, 60 kilograms of pure silver threads and 410 kilograms of raw cotton.

Next Thursday is first day of Muharram and first day of new Hijri year: Qatar Calendar House
DOHA: The Qatar Calendar House has announced that, according to the accurate astronomical calculations conducted by the House's specialists, next Thursday, June 26, is the first day of the month of Muharram and the first day of the Hijri year 1447 AH. Eng Faisal Al Ansari, Executive Director of Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari Complex, stated that the crescent of the month of Muharram for the year 1447 AH will be born on Wednesday, corresponding to June 25 (the day of investigation), at 1:32pm Doha local time (10:14am GMT). He added that the Muharram crescent will set 20 minutes after sunset on the day of sighting (Wednesday, June 25) in the skies of Qatar, and that this period will increase the further west we go. It is worth noting that it is an astronomical constant that the movement of the moon in its orbit around the Earth determines the beginning and end of the Hijri months, while the movement of the Earth in its orbit around the sun determines the beginning and end of the Gregorian months.
