Man charged with criminal damage to Taoiseach's office warned to stay away from area
A man charged with causing criminal damage to the constituency office of the Taoiseach Micheál Martin in Cork has been ordered to stay away from the area and to refrain from any contact, indirect or direct, with Mr Martin or his staff members.
Thomas Heising of Frankfield Terrace, Summerhill South, Cork city appeared before a sitting of Cork District Court today charged with damaging property on Evergreen Road in Cork on May 27 last. The offence is contrary to Section 2(1) of the Criminal Damage Act, 1991.
Sgt Chris Cahill said Mr Heising made no reply when the charge was put to him under caution. Mr Heising (34) was arrested on Saturday and charged with the offence yesterday.

Defence solicitor Shane Collins Daly said that his client had cooperated fully with gardaí during his garda interview.
Sgt Cahill confirmed that this was the case. Mr Heising was asked if he agreed to abide by the conditions of his bail. He replied 'I am.'
Under the terms of his bail Mr Heising is required to sign on twice weekly at Anglesea Street Garda station in Cork city. He also has to reside at his home in Summerhill South.
Sgt Aisling Murphy applied for a six week remand in the case. Mr Heising was remanded on bail to appear before Cork District Court on July 25 next for DPP directions. Judge Dorgan told him to refrain from using intoxicants in the intervening period.
No details were given as to the particulars of the damage caused to the constituency office.

Police in Ontario, Canada, have arrested two men in a suspected 'door-to-door paving scam' after a man with an Irish accent offered to carry out work on a local home in Kingston. Authorities say they responded to a call at a home in the Sherwood Drive area on Tuesday after a homeowner was offered a contract for $6,000 for driveway repairs if they paid cash. When police arrived they encountered an individual in a white pickup truck 'with an Irish accent' who then called over his colleague before both left the scene 'at a high rate of speed'. 'Left behind were multiple shovels/racks and two other individuals, later determined to be foreign nationals.' Officers spoke with the two men who were left behind. The Canadian Border and Security Agency was contacted and both were placed under arrest for violations of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Custody of the individuals was then transferred to CBSA agents. According to the police report, the homeowner told officers they were approached by an 'Irish-sounding male' around 10.30am on Tuesday morning. The homeowner was quoted $6,000 for repairs and paving work to the driveway if they paid cash. 'The homeowners stated they did not have that amount of cash at the house, at which point the male offered to take them to the bank,' police said. 'The male then dropped off the other two individuals who immediately began preparing the driveway. No contract was provided to the homeowner and no money was exchanged.' Residents are now being warned to watch out for door-to-door paving scams operating in the Kingston area. 'Scammers offer to repave residential driveways at a steeply discounted cash rate, requiring payment up front,' police said. 'The suspects often state that they are doing work nearby, which is why they are offering the discounted rate, which is too good to be true. 'The work will be left incomplete, or the paving is of poor quality. In past cases, large piles of excavated asphalt and earth were left behind, often blocking the roadway.' In May 2024, Ontario police issued a similar warning to residents to beware of the scam after numerous homeowners in the area were targeted by a group of men who spoke with Irish accents. It was the latest recent warning to be issued by cops in the US and Canada over Irish scammers who travel around conning homeowners out of money and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Police forces across Europe and as far away as Australia and New Zealand have also issued numerous similar warnings.

Debunked: Conor McGregor makes series of misleading claims in court rant
Conor McGregor has made a number of misleading claims - after losing his appeal of a civil finding that he raped Nikita Hand. In a lengthy and rambling post on social media platform X, McGregor sensationally stated that he has no intention of paying the legal fees of James Lawrence - who the High court previously heard he referred to his solicitors and admitted paying his bills. In his post McGregor referred to the November High Court case which he lost and the appeal case which he also lost as a 'shake down,' and insisted he didn't say he was paying Lawrence's fees. 'You are out of your f*cking mind if you think I am paying James Lawrence legal costs, folks. Who said I was paying his fees?'I said I didn't know if I was, when the accusers barrister asked me on the stand, as I didn't. (who is paying his own fees I should have asked him at that time) ???' he posted. However in the High Court case itself McGregor was pressed by trial Judge Alexander Owens if he was paying Lawrence's fees or not. In response to cross examination first from Ms Hand's Counsel McGregor stated that he 'possibly' paid James Lawrence legal fees and referred him to them. 'I'm not 100 per cent. McGregor responded by saying: 'I believe I did.' In refusing Lawrence costs at the conclusion of the High Court case in November, Judge Owens said both men were acting in "lockstep" in their defence of the action and it would be inappropriate to award costs to Mr Lawrence even though the jury found he did not rape Ms Hand. The Court of Appeal this week refused to allow Lawrence to be paid his costs as they too found that the money would ultimately end up going to McGregor, who was paying his fees. Nikita Hand speaking to the media after attending the Court of Appeal (Image: Collins Photos) McGregor goes on to claim in his new post that he was 'on the stand in a world of fog being accused of a crime I didn't commit, and that I was actually cleared of criminally and exonerated by every witness present, as well as believed twice over by the public prosecutor, but still up on a stand civilly, in absolute shock.' This statement is also misleading - as McGregor was not in fact 'cleared' or 'exonerated.' Gardai did investigate the alleged rape and sent a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). However the DPP decided not to take the case and therefore no criminal charges were levelled against the UFC fighter. This by itself does not mean McGregor was 'cleared' or 'exonerated' of the claims - just that he was not charged or convicted of any criminal offence. However the finding by the civil jury in November that he was liable for assault - whereby the assault in question was the rape that occurred in the Beacon Hotel in Sandyford in 2018, means the fighter can hardly claim he was 'exonerated.' The finding of the jury has also now been upheld by the three Judges of the Court of Appeal. McGregor goes on to make claims about why the criminal case did not go ahead - stating that there was plenty of evidence of CCTV footage which he claimed showed Ms Hand 'partying away, messaging away' and leaving and coming back to the hotel 'not a f*cking laughing, dancing, kissing, biting, play fighting. It's some watch. I was home HOURS and this is all going on,' he wrote. All of the footage was played in full and repeatedly re shown to the jury in the civil trial - with them ultimately siding with Ms Hand who stated she was drunk and not in the right state of mind at the time of the footage. Having been shown this footage and heard arguments from both sides they nonetheless sided with her, that she had been raped in the room by McGregor. McGregor goes on to attack Ms Hand in his post by saying: 'How people sleep at night is beyond me. I'm sure they don't. Not soundly anyway, no way. Impossible. To falsely accuse someone of rape and lose, then attempt to ignore that fact/brush it under the rug is truly heinous on another level!' However Ms Hand did not lose her case - she in fact won it, and had it re affirmed this week by three learned Judges of the Court of Appeal. Mr McGregor can continue to claim he did not rape Ms Hand - and it is a fact that he is not convicted of the criminal offence. He has however been found to have raped Ms Hand and is liable for it, by a civil jury. He now claims he 'welcomes' the new case taken by Ms Hand against him and the suddenly withdrawn proposed witnesses, couple Samantha O'Reilly and Stephen Cummins. Ms Hand is suing McGregor, Ms O'Reilly and Stephen Cummins for damages for 'malicious abuse of the process of the court.' It comes after McGregor's own Counsel announced at the opening of the appeal earlier this month that they would not be called as witnesses - after admitting that the evidence was not sustainable. Now in his new post McGregor is trying to claim that the evidence of Ms O'Reilly and Mr Cummins ought to have been heard - despite his own legal team arguing it shouldn't. 'I believed their claim, as portions of it was verified through the response affidavit to it,' he claimed. 'Why these two witnesses were not called, i will never know. It was on the very morning of. They were present and very eager to testify,' he claimed. 'It seemed they were pulled out of fear from my appointed team tbh. For what I don't know. These people said they seen something, let us all hear. If it's legit, great, it sounds very legit to me. If it's not, it's on them.' After the evidence was suddenly withdrawn the Judges of the Court of Appeal made the decision to refer the matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), after reading submissions from Ms Hand's legal team about the couple. Ms Hand's Counsel flagged concerns that potential perjury had been committed by the couple - and subornation of perjury by Conor McGregor himself for attempting to introduce the now withdrawn 'evidence.' He now claims he is 'happy this is still ongoing' - despite now being liable for a staggering €2M legal bill he has to pay Nikita Hand - and the remainder of the €250,000 award. Husband's horrifying murder plot exposed after wife survives 4,000ft plunge
After witnessing a woman plummet from an aircraft 4,000 feet above, horrified spectators could only look on helplessly as her body crashed into the earth. It had initially seemed like a tragic accident, both the primary and backup parachutes that experienced skydiver Victoria Cilliers had been relying on that day refused to deploy – but the sinister truth was that the horrifying incident had been an a deliberate attempt at murder. Speaking on the documentary SkyDive Murder Plot, Rob Camps, secretary of the parachuting club at Nertheravon Airfield in Witfield, described how it appeared almost as though a "bag of washing" had been hurled from the aircraft. Rob recalled that it was "sickening" to witness as Victoria plummeted for approximately 25 seconds. He had presumed that her descent would prove deadly, and had even seized a body-bag before rushing to the field where she had crashed. However, what Paul uncovered in the days after the dreadful incident proved that Victoria's sickening plunge had been planned in advance. Victoria Cilliers in the field where she landed (Image: Storyfilms TV) Victoria was a seasoned skydiver, a qualified accelerated freefall (AFF) instructor with 2,654 jumps under her belt, yet nothing she could have done during that terrifying 25-second descent could have stopped that bone-shattering collision. But, against all the odds, Victoria survived. She had sustained serious spinal and internal injuries, along with a fractured pelvis and five broken ribs, but was sufficiently recovered to be questioned by police several days afterwards. Police became interested in Victoria's accident after examining her parachutes revealed that the soft links – crucial components known to experts as "slinks" – appeared to be absent from both parachutes. Accident investigators recorded video footage of the moment they unpacked Victoria's faulty 'chute (Image: PA) Without these vital parts, leaping from an aircraft at 4,000 feet would virtually guarantee death. Rob Camps had contacted police after inspecting her parachute and discovering what had occurred. Investigators' suspicions swiftly turned to Emile Cilliers, Victoria's husband and father of her two children. He had been present with her the day before, when a scheduled parachute jump had been cancelled due to poor weather conditions, and had mysteriously taken her parachute with him into the toilets when one of their children announced she needed the loo. Wiltshire Police's suspicions fell upon Victoria's husband Emile Cilliers (Image: PA) Analysis of the 38 year old army officer's mobile phone records revealed that he had not only been having an affair with another woman, an Austrian skydiving instructor he'd encountered on Tinder, but had also accumulated substantial debts through his frequent use of prostitutes. However, the challenge for detectives probing the case was that Victoria couldn't bring herself to believe that the father of her two children would ever wish to murder her. She remained captivated by the charismatic South African even after evidence surfaced that the tampering with Victoria's parachute wasn't Emile's first attempt on her life. Six days prior to that tragic parachute jump, Victoria had detected a powerful gas odour in her kitchen. Emile hadn't been home, informing his wife he was remaining at the military barracks to ensure an early morning start. Investigation of the gas pipework entering the property revealed conclusive proof that Emile had interfered with the valve – and that he had been entirely prepared to murder his children alongside his wife. An examination of his online browsing history demonstrated he had been investigating the availability of wet-nurses to feed their newborn infant before his wife's anticipated "accident." Emile Cilliers also loosened a gas valve in their kitchen in hope of killing his wife and children (Image: PA) Nevertheless, Victoria struggled to acknowledge the reality, even when police confronted her with the undeniable evidence of her husband's culpability. She eventually consented to give evidence against him, but in a dramatic turn altered her testimony in the witness box, suggesting the possibility that she might somehow have been responsible for the incident. She gave evidence that she had misled officers during her original interviews, and had overstated the duration he had spent with her parachute: "I made it sound worse than it was because I was humiliated. I wanted him to suffer." Emile persistently refuted attempting to murder his wife throughout a seven-week hearing at Winchester Crown Court and the jury ultimately delivered a message to the judge declaring they would be unable to reach a decision. With the possibility of a retrial looming, DI Paul Franklin and DC Maddy Hennah found themselves back at square one. As police unravelled his story, police began to see Emile Cilliers as a narcissistic psychopath (Image: Getty Images Europe) They relentlessly gathered additional evidence, questioning Emile's former wife, Carly Cilliers, who is the mother of two of his elder children. Their investigation revealed that he had also rekindled his romance with her. DI Franklin observed that Emile's capacity to deceive all the women in his life with such ease was characteristic of a psychopath. He went on: "He can have a conversation with his wife about picking up the children or a bit of shopping at the same time as arranging to meet someone he knows from Fabswingers for some weekend fun, and ringing someone from Adultwork to see if they are available. "Three totally separate conversations at the same time, managed in such a way that there was never a wrong phone call to the wrong person. When you see that repeated constantly for years, you see what kind of person he was." (Image: Storyfilms TV) Even following Victoria's life-threatening plunge, Emile was messaging sex workers from beside her hospital bed and organising encounters with them in the vicinity. However, Emile's web of deception started to crumble during his retrial and he was convicted of two counts of attempted murder, plus a third charge of recklessly endangering life. He was handed a minimum 18-year prison term. Meanwhile – at the very same parachute club where she so narrowly cheated death – Victoria encountered former Royal Marine Simon Goodman and the pair wed in October 2024.
