Lord's to host three England Tests in 2026

Yahoo2 days ago
Lord's will host three England Tests next summer - its first women's Test and men's matches against New Zealand and Pakistan.
The first men's Test against Pakistan at Headingley in August will be the only Test played north of Nottingham.
England's men begin their summer at Lord's on 4 June with the first of three Tests against New Zealand.
They play five T20s and three one-day internationals against India in July, followed by a three-Test series against Pakistan before T20s and ODIs against Sri Lanka in September.
The second and third men's Tests and the first two India T20s will clash with the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup, which will be held in England.
England's women warm up for that tournament with three ODIs and five T20s against New Zealand, followed by three more T20s against India.
The landmark women's Test at Lord's, which was announced last year and was a recommendation of the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC) report in 2023, will be a four-day affair starting on 10 July. It will be England's first home women's Test since the 2023 Ashes.
With the men's Test series being played from 19 August, The Hundred will move forward a week from its position in 2025 to avoid a clash.
After the Hundred, England's women play three ODIs against Ireland in September.
Including the World Cup, England women will play a minimum of 18 matches at home next summer.
Their first match of the summer on 10 May at Chester-le-Street and a World Cup fixture at Leeds are the only occasions they play north of Derby.
None of the Ashes Tests in 2027 will be played in the north, a decision questioned by Yorkshire chief executive Sanjay Patel this month. Old Trafford will host a Test in early 2027 before the Ashes.
The Oval will host the last of those matches as it takes the final white-ball match of the summer, rather than its traditional concluding Test.
The last Test of the summer will be played at Edgbaston from 9 September.

🚨 Official: Arsenal land one of Europe's top strikers

The end of a long saga! It's now official, after long weeks of negotiations, Viktor Gyökeres is finally an Arsenal player. The London club reportedly spent around 74 million euros to secure the services of one of the most prominent strikers in the world of football. Having had to cope without a leading striker for many months, the Gunners have suddenly added a forward with exceptional credentials. In 102 matches with Sporting, the Swede scored 97 goals and provided 27 assists. This addition to Arsenal's squad follows the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, and Christhian Mosquera. Do you think Arsenal is now one of the favorites for the title? 🚨 BREAKING: Arsenal sign Sporting and Sweden star Viktor Gyökeres

Arsenal have confirmed the €73.5M arrival of Sporting CP centre-forward Viktor Gyökeres. The deal for the strilker will see Arsenal reportedly pay Sporting €63.5M up front, with a further €10m achievable in add-ons. The Gunners have long been after a new striker and have now got their man in the form of the 27-year-old, who scored a mammoth 54 goals for Sporting last season, including 39 in the league. Gyökeres led Sporting to consecutive league titles in his two seasons in Lisbon, scoring a total of 97 goals in 102 appearances for the club. In a protracted transfer drama that also involved RB Leipzig ace Benjamin Šeško, Gyökeres adds his name to a growing list of reinforcements in north London this summer. Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, Brentford's Christian Nørgaard, and Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga have also arrived as the Gunners look to go one better than the last three Premier League campaigns, which have all seen them end the season as runners-up. 📸 PATRICIA DE MELO MOREIRA - AFP or licensors

Padraig Harrington leads Justin Leonard by 2 shots at Senior British Open

BERKSHIRE, England (AP) — Padraig Harrington birdied the final hole Saturday for another 5-under 65 for a two-shot lead over Justin Leonard going into the final round of the Senior British Open as the Irishman goes for his second senior major of the year. Harrington was among four players who had at least a share of the lead at some point during the round on the Old Course at Sunningdale. He seized the lead with birdies on the 13th and 14th hole, and a closing birdie added to his slight lead. Harrington was at 13-under 197. He has been in the United Kingdom the last three weeks for links golf, starting with the Scottish Open. He won the U.S. Senior Open in Colorado a month ago. Leonard, the only PGA Tour Champions player to make the cut last week in the British Open at Royal Portrush, also had a second straight 65. Thomas Bjorn had a 67 and was three shots behind. Harrington and Leonard are past British Open champions — Leonard at Royal Troon in 1997, Harrington winning the first of two claret jugs a decade later at Carnoustie (2007) and Royal Birkdale (2008). Either one can become the fifth player to win the British Open and Senior British Open, a feat last accomplished by Darren Clarke in 2022. Steven Alker, a two-time Charles Schwab Cup winner who opened with a 73, tried to get back in the game. He shot 66 and was among four players at 8-under 202, five shots behind. The winner is exempt for the 154th British Open next year at Royal Birkdale. ___ AP golf:
