Judicial custody of 11 accused extended till AugUST 1

Vijayawada: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) special court here on Tuesday extended the judicial remand of 11 accused in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case up to August 1. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials produced the accused before the court upon completion of their previous remand period. The accused include Kessireddy Rajashekar Reddy, former IT adviser to former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy; K Dhanunjaya Reddy, secretary in the CMO; Krishna Mohan Reddy, officer on special duty (OSD) to then CM; director of Bharati Cements Balaji Govindappa; former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy; Rajashekar Reddy's personal assistant Dilip Kumar, Chanikya and Sajjala Sridhar Reddy. Nine accused were brought from the district jail in Vijayawada, while the remaining two were brought from Guntur jail. After the court extended their custody, they were sent back to jail. The court extended judicial custody till August 1 so that all 12 accused arrested in the case so far can be produced together on completion of their remand term. YSRCP MP P V Midhun Reddy was arrested in the case on July 19. The court had sent him to judicial custody till August 1. He is currently lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail. The alleged scam had occurred during YSRCP rule between 2019 and 2024. After TDP-led NDA came to power last year, a case was registered at CID Police Station in Mangalagiri under sections 409, 420, 120 (B), r/w 34 and 37 of IPC and section 7, 7A, 8, 12, 13 (1), (b), 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) initially conducted an investigation following a complaint by an official of the Excise Department. Later, the government constituted SIT, headed by NTR District Commissioner of Police SV Rajashekhar Babu, to probe the case. The SIT found large-scale irregularities and fund misappropriation in the liquor policy implemented during 2019-24. Investigators reportedly uncovered a kickback network involving nearly Rs 3,500 crore siphoned off over five years. There are allegations that the YSRCP leaders encouraged a new liquor policy, floated new brands, and received kickbacks from the distillery companies, causing huge losses to the government.

Govt has to sell A.P. to implement women's scheme, says Minister

Minister for Agriculture K. Atchannaidu on Tuesday stirred the hornets nest by saying that the government has to sell off Andhra Pradesh State if it wants to implement the 'Adabidda Nidhi' scheme one of the Super Six assurances given by the Telugu Desam Party prior to the 2024 general election. Mr. Atchannaidu made the sensational comments during a public meeting held at Mangalampalam in Kotthavalasa mandal of Vizianagaram on Tuesday. While participating in Suparipalana Toli Adugu programme organised to highlight the government's 'achievements' in the last one year, Mr. Atchannaidu said that it would be a herculean task for the government to provide financial assistance of ₹1,500 every month to all women above 18 years under the scheme. 'The government is left with no option except to sell the State to implement the Adabidda Nidhi, scheme. Despite the funding concerns, Mr. Atchannaidu announced that free bus travel for women will be rolled out from August 15, on Independence Day.

All basic amenities will be provided at mega housing project at Tangudubilli in Visakhapatnam district, says Bheemunipatnam MLA

Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao has assured that all basic amenities will be provided at the mega housing project coming up across 690 acres at Tangudubilli in Anandapuram mandal. Of the proposed 16,996 houses under the project, 2,036 have already been completed. The MLA conducted a field-level inspection of the project site on Tuesday. Speaking to the media later, he criticised the previous YSRCP government, alleging that the housing policy was designed to benefit party leaders under the guise of the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS). He said the former government had failed to ensure basic infrastructure in the area. 'Houses were allotted to beneficiaries living in Visakhapatnam city, nearly 30 km away, while ignoring eligible applicants from the village itself,' he pointed out. Reaffirming the coalition government's commitment, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that 3 cents of land in rural areas and 2 cents in urban areas would be allocated to eligible beneficiaries. He also highlighted the plight of those who had availed loans for TIDCO houses and are now struggling to repay them. The MLA interacted with three beneficiaries over the phone to gather feedback on the quality of the housing units and the challenges faced. He later spoke to District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad and urged immediate steps to provide essential amenities such as power, drinking water, internal roads, and drainage systems. Expressing displeasure over the absence of the contractor during his visit, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said he had received multiple complaints regarding the quality of construction. He directed officials to intensify monitoring and ensure quality standards are upheld. Housing PD Sattibabu, Executive Engineer Suri Babu, and MRO S. Suri Babu were present during the visit. Later, under the 'Suparipalana lo Tholi Adugu' programme, the MLA conducted a door-to-door campaign in Tangudubilli village and interacted with residents. He assured them that despite financial challenges, the State government was committed to fulfilling all election promises. TDP leaders Ghattamneni Subashchandra Bose, Tatraju Appa Rao, B.R.B. Naidu, Gandreddi Swamy Naidu, Yerra Raju, Balireddy Mallikarjuna Rao, Srikanth Raju, and S. Siva also took part in the campaign.
