162,000 Kuwaitis visited UK in 2024, a 6 percent increase from 2023
KUWAIT: In collaboration with the British Embassy in Kuwait, Britain's national tourism agency, VisitBritain, organized a special afternoon tea event on Tuesday aimed at promoting the UK's diverse summer tourism experiences beyond London. During her opening remarks, British Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis emphasized the importance of strengthening the close ties between the United Kingdom and Kuwait, noting the growing interest among Kuwaiti travelers in exploring the UK's home nations.
Ambassador Lewis added that Kuwaitis made 162,000 visits to the UK in 2024, a 6 percent increase from 2023 — with an average spend of £2,641 per person. The Gulf region ranks as the UK's tenth-largest inbound market, and Kuwait is projected to have the third-highest visitor spend among GCC countries in 2025. The ambassador highlighted the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) scheme as a major driver of this growth, explaining that Kuwaitis made 148,854 applications between February 2024 and March 2025 - the second highest in the Gulf after Saudi Arabia.

For her part, Mirna Tamimi, VisitBritain's GCC Communications Manager, showcased major events taking place this summer, including world-class sporting moments such as the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the Wimbledon tennis tournament; Bath's festivities marking 250 years since the birth of renowned author Jane Austen; and the Liverpool Biennial, the UK's largest contemporary art festival.
She also emphasized the ease of travel both to and within the UK, with 18 direct flights per week from Kuwait City to London and Manchester, and over 2,500 train stations connecting Britain's towns and cities. In his turn, Gary Robson, VisitBritain Director for Europe, Middle East & India, emphasized the importance of the Kuwaiti market, stating, 'Our collaboration with the British Embassy Kuwait helps us deepen ties in this key GCC region.
We are working closely with local influencers and travel trade partners to inspire travel beyond London.' Committee reviews new draft law regulating humanitarian work

Committee reviews new draft law regulating humanitarian work Interior Minister chairs sixth meeting of Humanitarian and Charitable Work Committee KUWAIT: First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah chaired the sixth meeting of the Committee for Regulating Humanitarian and Charitable Work on Thursday. The meeting, attended by representatives from various government agencies, focused on reviewing a draft law to regulate humanitarian work in the country. According to a statement by the Ministry of Interior, the proposed law is part of Kuwait's ongoing efforts 'to enhance the efficiency of humanitarian and charitable work and organize it according to the highest international standards.' The committee emphasized that the draft law aims to modernize the legal framework governing humanitarian and charitable activities in Kuwait. It is designed to 'promote governance and ensure the highest levels of transparency and effectiveness,' the statement said. 'These efforts reflect Kuwait's commitment to supporting and developing humanitarian and charitable initiatives,' the committee noted, 'in a way that achieves the desired positive impact and supports beneficiary communities both locally and internationally.' The meeting comes amid broader efforts by the Kuwaiti government to safeguard the country's global reputation as a leader in humanitarian aid, while ensuring accountability and trust in the charitable sector. On June 22, Kuwait introduced a new bylaw regulating charitable foundations (mabarat), requiring official licensing, security clearances, and a minimum of 10 Kuwaiti founders with clean legal records and a KD 10,000 deposit. Foundations are prohibited from fundraising or conducting any charitable activities without prior written approval from the Ministry of Social Affairs. The law also grants the ministry full oversight powers, sets clear conditions for dissolution, and imposes penalties for non-compliance or financial misconduct. The government released another set of regulations the same month, specifically targeting charitable associations' fundraising activities. The rules govern how donations are collected, managed, and reported. They focus on controlling the use of fundraising links, overseeing contracts with marketing firms and influencers involved in promotion, regulating financial transparency and reporting, and managing both local and international charity campaigns. The aim is to regulate the entire process of collecting and handling donations within the charitable sector. — Agencies

MD 3.2, a milestone in the continued advancement of Kuwait's capital market KUWAIT: Reaffirming its commitment to building a more efficient, attractive, and globally competitive market that meets investor ambitions and aligns with international best practices, the Kuwaiti capital market apparatus has launched part two of the third phase of its comprehensive market development program (MD 3.2). This phase included a series of core initiatives aimed at strengthening the operational and regulatory infrastructure as well as expanding the range of products and services in the Kuwaiti capital market. Led by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and in collaboration with the Central Bank of Kuwait, local banks, investment firms and brokerage companies, Boursa Kuwait and the Kuwait Clearing Company (KCC) delivered a variety of transformative products, services and infrastructure enhancements, including the introduction of the Central Counterparty (CCP) framework, which reduces risks and provides guarantees to advance clearing and settlement processes in line with international standards. Among the other enhancements are cash settlements through local banks and the Central Bank of Kuwait's KASSIP system; the upgrade of brokerage firms' operating models to 'Qualified Broker' status, marking a significant step forward in market structure; and the introduction of sub-account numbers under omnibus accounts, which will strengthen transparency and oversight. In addition, the technical environment and IT infrastructure have been fully prepared and upgraded, with comprehensive testing conducted with all relevant parties in preparation for the listing and trading of Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) and fixed-income instruments, including bonds and sukuk. Legislative updates for these products are expected to be introduced later. This milestone represents one of the most significant transformations in the market's history since the privatization of Kuwait's stock exchange. It aims to reshape the regulatory and operational infrastructure of the market, paving the way for the introduction of new instruments and investment products that will deepen market liquidity, enhance its breadth and reinforce its role as a strategic driver of national economic growth. The exchange was instrumental in implementing the technical framework in MD 3.2, as it continued upgrading the trading system, which will support the introduction of new products, strengthen market integration, and lay the foundation for future offerings such as derivatives. The upgrades also highlight the market's readiness to broaden its range of investment instruments and align its regulatory framework with world-class standards. 'The launch of this phase reflects our unwavering commitment to developing an advanced, efficient trading environment that meets the highest international standards,' stated Boursa Kuwait's Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Saud Al-Osaimi. 'It is the product of close collaboration across the capital market apparatus and represents a key step in expanding the depth, transparency and resilience of Kuwait's capital market.'
