Cotswold town where JD Vance will holiday with his family is 'revealed': US Vice President will 'visit charming market town with quintessential English character' when he stays this summer
The US Vice President is set to visit Oxfordshire this August for his annual holiday alongside his wife Usha and their three children Ewan Blaine, Vivek and Mirabel.
Fashion journalist and socialite Plum Sykes told BBC Radio 4's PM programme that the family would be staying in Charlbury.
Ms Sykes claimed to know 'the whole story' about Vance renting a house in the Cotswolds.
She said: 'There has been this mass exodus from America to the Cotswolds because it's an English fantasy of the countryside.
'But it's so glamorous and it's sort of very hot because one person goes, Ellen [DeGeneres] goes.
'The fact that JD Vance has rented this house in Charlbury I have to say I secretly know the whole story, but I can't tell you.
'It's just so hot and so trendy and so fashionable... it's an incredibly beautiful area because it's being protected, almost like a national park that you can live in.
'Americans cannot get over the charm but since Covid it's been refashioned with all the pleasures of London, Paris and New York.'
Earlier this year, Charlbury was named as one of the best places to live in Oxfordshire, among the other towns of Henley and Burford.
While staying in the town, Vance could visit the Charlbury Museum, which was founded in 1949 and has a range of crafts and industries on display.
Ellen DeGeneres said she will not be in the area to greet the Vice-President and has hastily agreed a holiday to avoid him.
It was reported that Mr Vance was keen to visit Ellen's beloved local The Bull at Charlbury, which she has visited with Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field.
Last week it was revealed she is selling one of her two Cotswolds properties for a cool £22.5million – £7.5million more than she paid for it.
She moved to the Cotswolds following her showbiz retirement and 'to get away from Donald Trump' after he became president.
'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis and I was like, 'He got in',' she said. 'And we're like, 'We're staying here then'.'
The US VP joins Beyonce and Jay-Z and Taylor Swift as fans of the bucolic area's chocolate-box villages, honeyed-stone, rolling hills and cosy pubs.
The US politician's family breaks have already racked up disharmony during his short time serving in office.
Last week, Disneyland visitors were left outraged after Vance shut down rides so he could enjoy them with his children.
The Vice President strolled through Disneyland in Los Angeles, California, hand-in-hand with two of his children, Vivek and Mirabel, last Saturday - with a vast Secret Service security detail alongside them.
Barricades went up outside popular rides including Pirates of the Caribbean as K9 units stood guard - with an entourage of 50 bodyguards and Disney personnel said to be involved in the visit.
Mr Vance and his family are expected to arrive in Britain soon after the President's five-day stay in Scotland.
The Stop Trump Coalition has outlined plans to greet Mr Trump with banners and flags along roads and a beachside message visible from the sky.
Further action is intended for his proposed state visit expected to take place in September.
It has signalled similar opposition to Mr Vance's British break, with a spokesman saying: 'We are meeting Trump with protests in Aberdeen and Edinburgh this month, and then in London and Windsor in September.
'JD Vance is every bit as unwelcome in the UK as Donald Trump.
The prospect of such a heavy security presence in the winding rural roads of The Cotswolds is likely to spark logjams in an already overly congested area of the UK.
'We remember how Vance cut short his ski trip in Vermont because he was so enraged by the sight of a few protesters.
'We are sure that, even in the Cotswolds, he will find the resistance waiting.'
The Vice-President strolled through Disneyland in Los Angeles, California, hand-in-hand with two of his children, Vivek and Mirabel, last Saturday - with a vast Secret Service security detail alongside them.
In a speech in February, Mr Vance highlighted an SNP government law banning protest near abortion clinics, which critics said could be used to target people praying in their own homes, as an example of an attack on freedom of speech.
Mr Vance claimed people who live within safe access zones had been sent letters by the Scottish Government warning them about praying in their homes.
The Scottish Government had insisted that Mr Vance's claim was 'incorrect'.

A man who fell to his death during Oasis's Saturday night gig at Wembley has been named as Lee Claydon. The father from Bournemouth fell from the upper tier balcony of the London stadium during a sell-out concert by the Gallagher brothers. 'Lee leaves behind his son, dad, partner, brothers, sisters, nephews and niece. 'Lee was a loving family man who was a role model to his son Harry and was loved so much by all his family. Lee would have done anything for any of us and he was taken from us far too soon and we will miss him so very much. 'Lee loved all outdoor activities, one of his favourite hobbies was fishing. He also loved music and his guitar. He also really enjoyed going to watch and support the boys and his nephew at their football games. 'Amanda and the boys have our full support at this very sad time, which is why we would love to be able to help them financially as well as emotionally. 'Please help us raise as much funds as we can to take one worry off Amanda and family right now as they are going through any family's worst nightmare.' The Bad Sisters creator, 55, split from The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess earlier this year after two years together. She explained that she first met Barry, 44, in 2019 while filming the coming-of-age comedy Dating Amber, where they played a married couple. Now China enters supersonic passenger plane arm races with C949 jet that can fly from London to NYC in less than 3 hours
CHINA has thrown itself into the supersonic passenger jet race with its C949 plane that can zoom from London to New York in under three hours. The ultra-fast aircraft promises significantly less noise than the retired Concorde and 50 per cent further flight range. 4 4 4 Designed by China 's state-owned aircraft company Comac the aircraft is billed to reach 6,800 miles - a much further stretch than Concorde 's 4,500 mile capacity. This would allow the plane to fly non-stop from the UK to Malaysia. Meanwhile, the powerful jet is expected to fly 1.6 times faster than the speed of sound, allowing it to travel a staggering 11,000km at a time. This means it could fly from London to New York in less than three hours. The stealthy project also aims to reduce the sonic boom to 83.9 perceived level in decibels - equivalent to the sound of a hairdryer, according to the South China Morning Post. That is just one-twentieth of the Concorde's deafening boom. Concorde was blocked from taking overland flights following noise complaints, after civilians complained it was so loud it rattled windows and spooked livestock. Reducing the noise of the sonic boom could help it overcome regulatory barriers, and compete with rival projects from Nasa and Lockheed Martin. The aircraft, which is yet to make it off paper and onto tarmac, could advance China's role in the modern supersonic aviation industry. But, while plans were revealed in March, an official launch date isn't expected until 2049, Globe Trender reports. Before then the firm plans to unveil the C929 – a twin-aisle jet to rival Boeing's 787. And by 2039 it plans on rolling out a massive 400-seater C939 to compete with Boeing's 777X. While it's quieter than Concorde, it will fit just 28 to 48 passengers in its business class configuration - compared with the Nasa jet's 100-strong capacity. Boom 'son of Concorde' flies supersonic for first time The C949 will also blast slightly slower than its predecessor, which managed to top 1,450mph in its heyday. China's Aero Engine Corporation is separately developing a hypersonic jet, known as Nanqiang No 1, that may fly six times faster than the Concorde when it takes to the skies. The team first started working on the hypersonic jet in 2019, but are yet to make it go supersonic and reach speeds over Mach 1 (767mph). A supersonic jet is one that can travel faster than the speed of sound at Mach 1, while a hypersonic jet is specifically five times faster, at Mach 5. Why did Concorde fail? CONCORDE was the supersonic passenger jet considered the ultimate luxury in air travel. Air France and British Airways announced they would be retiring their fleet of Concorde planes on April 10, 2003. The plane had its first commercial flight on January 21, 1976, and was retired after 27 years of service and 50,000 flights. Several reasons led to the decision to retire Concorde. Air France and British Airways cited low passenger numbers and high maintenance costs. By the early noughties, the planes were outdated and expensive to run, despite being incredibly advanced when they were first introduced almost three decades previously. The 9/11 terrorist attack in 2001 majorly impacted passenger numbers, as people opted not to fly. Passenger numbers also fell after an Air France Concorde crashed just minutes after taking off from Paris in July 2000. The disaster killed all 109 people on board and four others on the ground. The plane ran over a small piece of metal on the runway, which burst a tyre and caused an engine to ignite. It was also the only aircraft in the British Airways fleet that required a flight engineer. Plans for C949 come as NASA's supersonic "Son of Concorde" plane inches ever closer to take-off. The X-59 jet will break the sound barrier when it flies - but won't produce a sonic boom, thanks to its unique design. When up and running, the aircraft will hurtle along at altitudes of at speeds of 937mph at 55,000 feet up. Nasa revealed it struck another milestone in the plane's journey toward the skies with crucial low-speed taxiing tests. The X-59 moved around purely under its own power for the first time at US Air Force Plant 42 on July 10. Taxiing is the final stage of ground tests before Nasa can take it up into the skies - and the maiden voyage is chalked for later this year.
