UK weather: Brits to bask in 30C temperatures again this week as sun returns after weekend of heavy rain & thunderstorms

Temperatures could climb into the low 30s and the heat is forecast to remain at night, making sleeping uncomfortable, says the Met Office.
It follows a weekend of cooler air, cloud and rain in most of England, and a yellow warning for thunderstorms in the east of the country on Sunday.
It's also been a wet start for many today, with the Environment Agency issuing one flood alert in Folkstone, Kent.
Marco Petagna, senior meteorologist at the Met Office, said: 'I think Wednesday is probably going to be the day when we could start to reach the thresholds of 25 to 28 degrees, depending on where you are...
'But temperatures are going to continue to climb as we go toward the end of the week and certainly by Friday and Saturday we could see 30 degrees, perhaps just nudging into the low 30s.
'At the weekend, we could just start to see humidity increasing a little bit as well and nighttime temperatures look like they are going to be, so it will be starting to become more uncomfortable by night.'
Yet the duration of the hot spell remains difficult to gauge, and there are uncertainties about just how high temperatures will rise.
It also appears as though the UK will avoid the stifling weather of the high 30s and low 40s seen in the Mediterranean.
Mr Petagna said: 'It's a bit of a question mark going through the weekend early next week as to how long the heat will last and how high the temperatures will get, because some models are sort of pushing the heat away a bit more quickly, whereas others keep the heat going.
'At this stage it looks as though certainly into next weekend, we should hold on to hot weather across the south of the UK and temperatures could again certainly get into the low 30s in a few spots.

'And we are going to see some very high pollen and very high UV levels as well.
'But at this stage, we've managed to escape some of the very highest temperatures, those seen across Spain and Portugal in particular, where it has reached the mid-40s.'

Today:
Early rain soon clearing from southeast England. Otherwise, most will have a bright day ahead, with sunny spells and a scattering of showers. Showers heaviest across eastern England. Rather breezy and fresh in the north, pleasant in the south.
Tonight:
Any remaining heavy showers slowly easing. Then mainly dry overnight, with clear spells, though clouding over across then northwest later. Turning chilly for parts of northern England and Scotland.
Tuesday:
Generally a fine and dry day ahead for many, with plenty of sunny spells. Cloudier skies towards northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a little light rain possible. Warmer.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Mainly dry as high pressure builds through this period. Plenty of sunny spells, though the far northwest will be cloudy initially. Turning very warm, locally hot once again.

MILLIONS of mobiles will blast out a deafening siren as the government tests its emergency alert system - designed to warn people of deadly storms, floods or terror threats. The alarm will last around 10 seconds and will sound even if phones are set to silent. 1 It will happen at 3pm on Sunday, September 7, with the system expected to reach around 87 million devices across the UK. Ministers say the alerts could save lives by giving people crucial warnings when danger is near, similar to systems already used in countries like the US and Japan. Cabinet minister Pat McFadden said: 'Emergency Alerts have the potential to save lives, allowing us to share essential information rapidly in emergency situations including extreme storms. Just like the fire alarm in your house, it's important we test the system so that we know it will work if we need it." The last nationwide test in 2023 saw mobiles across the UK blare out the alert, and since then, the system has been triggered during major storms, floods, and even when a World War II bomb was discovered in Plymouth. In January this year, 4.5 million people in Scotland and Northern Ireland received an alert as Storm Éowyn battered the UK with a red weather warning in place. During Storm Darragh last December, 3.5 million people in Wales and the South West got an alert — the storm killed two people. Police say the alerts were vital during the Plymouth evacuation, when more than 10,000 people were moved after the discovery of an unexploded bomb. Tracey Lee, Chief Executive of Plymouth Council, said: "It played a vital role in helping us safely evacuate over 10,000 people and coordinate a complex, multi-agency response." Assistant Chief Constable Glen Mayhew added: 'By their nature, emergency incidents occur with very little notice. They can develop at speed and across wide areas which puts lives at risk. This system has the ability to send an alert to those whose lives may be at risk, to ensure they can act to help themselves and others." The alerts work on all 4G and 5G networks, but phones must be switched on to receive them. Special guidance is being issued to victims of domestic abuse with hidden phones, who may need to opt out to stay safe. The message sent on September 7 will clearly state it is only a test. The test comes alongside wider government plans to boost the UK's resilience — including £1.3 billion for new biosecurity centres, £4.2 billion for flood defences, and the biggest pandemic exercise in Britain's history, dubbed Exercise Pegasus.

Sting was due perform in Parco Ragazzi del '99, a park in Bassano del Grappa, a city in North East Italy, as part of his Sting 3.0 tour. The performance was due to take place on Sunday, but due to bad weather conditions, the Mayor advised that the event should be postponed. With weather proving to be an issue, a warning for a severe thunderstorm threw Sting's performance into chaos. On Sunday, the temperature was 27 degrees but a severe thunderstorm had been predicted for the afternoon. There was a possibility of "lightning and extremely high winds", which made up the minds of the organisers. Organisers of the gig were concerned, with heavy thunderstorms still expected Monday through to Tuesday. Sting took to social media to share the sad news of his gig's cancellation with fans. "The mayor of Bassano del Grappa wisely said it would have been too dangerous for the performance to take place with the possibility of lightning and extremely high winds last night," he said. "The safety of my audience, band and crew is paramount. Sting's son joins the police and says he has landed his dream job "I promise we will return as soon as we can," Sting concluded. Though his fans were devastated, they understood and praised that he put "safety first". "Last night we were very sad but the weather was terrible and safety is the first thing.. we wait for you soon," commented one. Another said: "Safety for you, your band and for us. We're waiting for you next time!!!" "It was heartbreaking, but you're right, safety first. Can't wait to see you live someday," added a third. A fourth then wrote: "I was so looking forward to the concert, hopefully it can be re-organised soon!" And a fifth said: "Better safe than sorry. Always. Thank you for looking after everyone." Back in January, Sting was forced to pull out of a performance on doctor's orders. "On advisement from his doctor, due to illness, it is with sincere regret that Sting must cancel his appearance at the Bass Magazine Awards this Thursday," a statement read at the start of the year.
