Young people equipped with work skills

THE three-day Success Ladder Work Readiness Conference held at The Junction in Kloof recently was described by the 30 young delegates as a fun and interactive experience.
'The objective of the event was to equip people to get the job and keep the job,' said one of the organisers, Adele Benvie, who is also the CEO of the Success Company.
She said their Support Services Sector Action Team identified the pain point that candidates are well prepared for the role but don't know how to put their best foot forward when applying for a job or when in a job.

'This results in people not getting the job or keeping their jobs because they perhaps have the skill but are not 'showing up' in a way that shows employers they are a candidate of choice.
'Based on this, the Support Services team then created a work readiness event. The three-day conference was completed with gamification, music, activities, engagement as well as highly impactful and real life skills that prepared people for the workplace so that they can get the job and keep the job,' said Benvie.
The modules were presented by industry experts, bringing the latest relevant information to the session. On the third day there was a graduation ceremony where the participants were awarded certificates.
One of the attendees, Matthew Powell, said after experiencing the second day of the Success Ladder workshop he had already learnt a lot in a short period.
'From workplace mental health, different ways of communication, leadership and business skills, this is valuable information that has shifted my perspective on different ways of viewing conflicts and challenges and how I interact with them.'
He added that the information he received was valuable and that he would cherish it throughout his working career.
'I am blessed to have this opportunity at this time when I am kick-starting my career with this much of a mental head start,' he said.

AP Church hosts successful market to raise funds

The Afrikaans Protestant (AP) Church thanks its supporters for the success of its market day, which was hosted on Saturday, July 26. Event organiser, Gert Opperman, said funds raised at the event will be used to ensure the continued survival of the church, as well as to secure the services of a new pastor to lead the congregation. 'We are a small but happy congregation, and lucky to have enjoyed the support that we did at our market,' said Opperman. 'All the vendors I spoke to said they were happy with their sales for the day. Everything went smoothly.' Opperman went on to thank Erna de Jager at The Barn for providing the venue as well as the Newcastle community for its support. Repo rate cut a step toward growth and job creation

Government has welcomed the South African Reserve Bank's (SARB) decision to cut the repo rate by 25 basis points to 7%. 'Government welcomes the decision by the South African Reserve Bank to reduce the repo rate by 25 basis points to 7%. The move provides much-needed relief for South African households, many of who continue to face financial pressure due to the rising cost of living,' acting government spokesperson Nomonde Mnukwa said yesterday. Addressing a media briefing on the Monetary Policy Committee's decision on the repo rate, SARB governor Lesetja Kganyago said the decision to reduce the policy rate was unanimous. Mnukwa said the rate cut is expected to ease the burden on consumers by lowering the cost of borrowing, while also creating conditions more conducive to stimulating investment, supporting businesses, and driving economic activity. 'The decision reaffirms the soundness of South Africa's monetary policy framework and the importance of co-ordinated efforts to support inclusive growth. Government continues to implement structural reforms and improving the ease of doing business to unlock the full potential of the economy and create jobs,' Mnukwa explained. – Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel. #BestofBallito: Phumlani Construction is building a stronger future

Phumlani Construction Group is shaping the North Coast skyline, one award-winning project at a time. Voted Best Building and Construction Company in the Best of Ballito Readers' Choice Awards, the company's reputation is built on quality craftsmanship and structures designed to stand the test of time. 'Our philosophy is that anything we construct should be a building for life,' said Phumlani Construction Group owner, Phumlani Gobile. While Gobile welcomes residential and commercial projects across South Africa, the business has largely been focused on domestic work along the North Coast since its launch in 2019. Phumlani Construction Group offers a full turnkey solution, handling construction and site management from the planning stage through to final handover. 'We have built strong relationships with past clients during and after their projects, and we are very focused on clear communication and meeting deadlines,' said Gobile.
