USMNT 2-1 Haiti: Yanks finish near-perfect group stage

NBC Sports23-06-2025

The United States men's national team got a final tune-up for the Gold Cup knockout rounds when Mauricio Pochettino led the team into Arlington for a match-up with Les Grenadiers of Haiti on Sunday.
Save for one mistake at the back, the car looks really good following a 2-1 win over Haiti on goals from Malik Tillman and Patrick Agyemang.
The Yanks went 3-0-0 against Haiti, Saudi Arabia, and Trinidad & Tobago, and will face learn their quarterfinal opponent later Sunday.

Patrick Agyemang goal! USMNT 2-1 Haiti (75th minute)
There's the big striker from URI!
John Tolkin with a terrific ball from left back and Agyemang times his run about as well as possible (he was nearly offside).
Agyemang carries past Placide and passes into the side netting. Solid, solid goal.
Calm. Cool. Clutch.@Patrick_agyy delivers the go-ahead goal!pic.twitter.com/2uN7izTZLR
Tillman goal but called offside on the field
Beautiful trap and finish, but clearly offside.
Two near goals for USMNT
Malik Tillman has a Haitian clearance go off his arm and over the line. That won't count.
Then Luca de la Torre hits a low shot that is saved by Placide.
1-1, 67'.
Saudi Arabia draw level with T&T
The Saudis move second with four points, two more than Haiti and T&T.
Halftime
Pretty deservedly 1-1.
Agyemang has been dangerous and strong but really should have a goal.
Close!
De la Torre sweeps an inswinging invitation to Quinn Sullivan, who snaps an acrobatic volley off a defender and the bar.
It's out for a corner. Nice from the San Diego and Philadelphia stars of MLS.
Placide denies Agyemang
He may have been offside but Agyemang is 1v1 with the keeper and is pushed wide for a corner by Placide.
John Tolkin's hits an adrenal corner kick way over the sea of foreheads in the 18.
Louicius Don Deedson goal — USMNT 1-1 Haiti (19th minute)
Tim Ream is under pressure by Louicius and plays a back pass to Matt Freese, who passes it right back to Deedson.
The Haitian doesn't miss, and that's all on the keeper who was making his third-straight start in a USMNT shirt.
Haiti capitalizes on the giveaway and finds the equalizer! 🇭🇹👀 pic.twitter.com/UKeqmELGCs
T&T take lead in other Group D game
Dante Sealy's scored from distance and T&T go second on the live table with four points, one more than Saudi Arabia.
USMNT score with first push
They had nothing almost nothing through nine minutes. That ends in the 10th.
Malik Tillman goal — USMNT 1-0 Haiti (10th minute)
Patrick Agyemang leads a foray into the box, but his cut back to Brenden Aaronson is sloppy.
The Leeds man opts for a cross to the back post, where Malik Tillman and Quinn Sullivan are available.
Tillman, one of the stars of the tournament so far, places his header across goalkeeper Johny Placide and inside the far post.
3rd @GoldCup match.
3rd goal for Malik Tillman! pic.twitter.com/4AG2nHzEAp
Haiti want a penalty
Chris Richards thwarts a Nazon dribble and then shoves the Haiti forward inside the 18 for good measure.
Nazon makes a meal of it, but Richards can't be throwing his arms like that. Not a penalty but not ideal.
VAR quickly says no.
Tyler Adams first-minute yellow card
The Bournemouth man slides through the back of Duckens Nazon.
He's surprised to go into the book but if he eyes a video he'll get it.
USMNT team news analyzed
It's excellent to see Tyler Adams back in the XI, and his spot next to Luca de la Torre and in front of Chris Richards and Tim Ream should be enough to see things through for Pochettino.
It's also notable that Malik Tillman and Chris Richards look to be beyond debate as starters in this tournament, while Diego Luna and Max Arfsten take their first turns outside the XI.
Matt Freese gets another look at goalkeeper in what's turning into a nice audition for a World Cup spot.
USMNT lineup
Freese, Tolkin, Richards, Ream, Freeman, Adams, De la Torre, Aaronson, Tillman, Sullivan, Agyemang
Haiti lineup
Placide, Arcus, Ade, Metusala, Experience, Louicius, Pierre, Jacques, Providence, Pierrot, Nazon.
USMNT vs Haiti preview
The Yanks have sealed passage from the group stage with wins over Trinidad and Tobago and Saudi Arabia, and could meet Mexico or Costa Rica in the quarterfinal, and they'll have no way of knowing whether El Tri or Los Ticos are first or second in the Group A prior to kickoff.
So a match-up with rivals Mexico could be coming win, lose, or draw against Haiti, as Mexico face Costa Rica later in the evening with El Tri only clear of Los Ticos on one goal worth of differential and Costa Rica ahead on goals by one.
Haiti can still reach the knockout rounds with a win over the Yanks plus help from Trinidad and Tobago. The Saudis have three points while the USMNT and T&T each have one. T&T needs a win over the Saudis and a Haiti loss or draw versus the U.S. (or a blowout win over Saudi Arabia that is four goals better than Haiti's win over the USMNT).
USMNT team news, focus
Haji Wright is dealing with a reported achilles injury of undisclosed severity, though the forward was in attendance at the Saudi Arabia match. Damion Downs also dealt with a late injury after coming off the bench, a contusion that's left him day-to-day according to Fox's Jenny Taft. Tyler Adams and Johnny Cardoso both returned from short injury absences against the Saudis, though whether they'll be fit to start by Sunday is a question mark. Pochettino did not rotate his XI much between the first two games, but he can do what he wants on Sunday which could mean opportunities for John Tolkin, Nathan Harriel, Quinn Sullivan, Paxten Aaronson, and/or Brian White.
Haiti team news, focus
Les Grenadiers won't have Nantes center back Jean-Kevin Duverne, who was sent off early in their 1-1 draw with Trinidad and Tobago. They will have veteran AEK Athens striker Frantzy Pierrot, who has 32 goals in 40 caps including the lone goal in this tournament. All-time leading scorer Duckens Nazon is also in the squad as is goalkeeper Johny Placide. This is one of the better performing Haiti sides in recent history and it's led by an international management veteran in French manager Sebastien Migne.
USMNT vs Haiti prediction
This match may end up being trickier than the win over bunkered-in Saudi Arabia, as Haiti need a win. That impetus to attack should hopefully lead to a more appealing spectacle, one that would benefit the USMNT. USMNT 3-1 Haiti.

Wimbledon Day 1 best bets: Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. James Duckworth, Joao Fonseca vs. Jacob Fearnley

Wimbledon gets underway Monday with wall-to-wall action starting at 6 a.m. Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, and plenty of other heavyweights are in action on Day 1 of the Championships, but we'll focus on a couple of under-the-radar matches for our first two bets of the fortnight at the All England Club. Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. James Duckworth, approx. 9 a.m. ET You would think that the slick surface at Wimbledon would suit Felix Auger-Aliassime's offensive game, but the Canadian has struggled to make hay at the All England Club in recent years. Auger-Aliassime made it to the third round in his first trip to Wimbledon and then the quarterfinals in his second, but he's not made it out of Round 1 since. If Auger-Aliassime has his serve working and is able to construct quick points, he can overwhelm any player on the ATP Tour. When he's off, even just a little bit, it can be come an adventure. He won't love the matchup on Monday, as he'll play the tireless Aussie, James Duckworth, who excels at hanging around in rallies and making you play an extra ball. That makes this a tricky one for Auger-Aliassime, and opens up a path to an upset for the veteran Aussie. The Play: James Duckworth (+350, FanDuel) Felix Auger-Aliassime is 0-3 in his last three matches at Wimbledon. AFP via Getty Images Jacob Fearnley vs. Joao Fonseca, approx. 9:30 a.m. ET A star in the making, João Fonseca put the tennis world on notice in January and February. The 18-year-old from Brazil upset Andrey Rublev at the 2025 Australian Open, and then won his maiden ATP title in Buenos Aires in February. Fonseca has endured some dips in the four months since, but there's been much more good than bad for the teenager in his first full year on the ATP Tour. Get the lowdown on the Best USA Sports Betting Sites and Apps The future is incredibly bright for Fonseca, but it would not be a shock to see him stumble a bit at Wimbledon. We often see young players have trouble adapting to the grass courts at Wimbledon, and Fonseca caught a tough draw by getting scheduled against England's Jacob Fearnley in Round 1. Fonseca has way more talent than Fearnley, but the Englishman has a lot more experience on the grass than the wunderkind. Don't be shocked if Fearnley makes quick work of Fonseca. The Play: Jacob Fearnley (+168, FanDuel) Why Trust New York Post Betting Michael Leboff is a long-suffering Islanders fan, but a long-profiting sports bettor with 10 years of experience in the gambling industry.
