Police in Tennessee Seek Man They Say Killed 4 in Case Linked to Abandoned Baby
The man, Austin Robert Drummond, 28, faces four counts of first-degree murder and other charges, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a news release on Thursday.
As of Thursday night, Mr. Drummond, an ex-convict who had served time in prison for armed robbery, was still at large and 'should be considered armed and dangerous,' the authorities said. It was not immediately clear if Mr. Drummond had a lawyer.
The case began to unfold just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, when a caller informed the authorities that a minivan or sport-utility vehicle had dropped a baby in a car seat in a front yard near the community of Tigrett, Tenn., the Dyer County Sheriff's Office said on social media.
By 5:10 p.m., the authorities had identified the baby and were searching for three family members, whom they named as Matthew Wilson, Adrianna Williams and Cortney Rose.
Shortly after, the three were confirmed dead.
In a separate post two days later, on Thursday, the sheriff's office confirmed the deaths of Mr. Wilson, 21, Ms. Williams, 20, Ms. Rose, 38, as well as that of Braydon Williams, 15, whom they said had been found murdered on Tuesday in the small lakeside town of Tiptonville.
Mr. Wilson and Ms. Williams were the young parents of the baby, the Dyer County District Attorney's Office told the NBC affiliate Action News 5. Ms. Rose was the baby's grandmother, and Mr. Williams the uncle, the district attorney's office said.
The office could not be immediately reached on Thursday night for further information about the killings. The relationship between Mr. Drummond and the victims was unclear, and the authorities have not said how the victims were killed or offered any information about a possible motive.
The authorities said the killings had taken place along Carrington Road in Tiptonville, a town of less than 3,500 people in far northwestern Tennessee.
They described Mr. Drummond as 5 feet 10 inches, with brown hair, blue eyes and a goatee, and said he might be driving a damaged 2016 Audi A3 with Tennessee license plates. He was added to Tennessee's Most Wanted list, and the authorities are offering a cash reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to his arrest.
Mr. Drummond is charged with four counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated kidnapping and various firearms charges.
Mr. Drummond previously served 13 years in prison in Tennessee and was released in September 2024, according to state records. He was convicted in 2014 of armed robbery of a convenience store in Jackson, Tenn., according to local media reports.

By Jonathan Stempel NEW YORK (Reuters) -A federal judge dismissed a defamation lawsuit by Devin Nunes, the former California congressman and now chief executive of Trump Media and Technology Group, against NBCUniversal over a comment by Rachel Maddow about his dealings with a suspected Russian agent. U.S. District Judge Kevin Castel in Manhattan ruled on Friday that no reasonable jury could find Maddow demonstrated actual malice toward Nunes in March 2021 when discussing a package addressed to him from pro-Russia Ukrainian legislator Andrii Derkach on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show." Nunes received the package in December 2019, when the Republican was the ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Maddow told viewers that Nunes "refused to hand it over to the FBI, which is what you should do if you get something from somebody who is sanctioned by the U.S. as a Russian agent." Nunes said Maddow knew the package was turned over promptly. She and her executive producer, who were not defendants, claimed to rely on other sources when creating the segment. NBCUniversal is a unit of Comcast. In a 24-page decision, Castel said Nunes, a longtime supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump, failed to show Maddow was aware of a July 2020 article in Politico saying the FBI had received the package. The judge found no clear and convincing evidence that Maddow had a "high degree of awareness of probable falsity," or any evidence that "defendant's admitted political bias caused defendant to act with a reckless disregard of the truth." Nunes' lawyers and Trump Media did not immediately respond on Monday to requests for comment. Lawyers for NBCUniversal did not immediately respond to similar requests. The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned Derkach in September 2020 for trying to interfere in that year's U.S. presidential election to help Trump, who lost to Democrat Joe Biden. A manhunt is underway after a seven-month-old baby girl was abandoned in a stranger's front yard, hours before four of her relatives were discovered murdered in a wooded area in Tennessee. Austin Drummond, 28, remains at large after being linked to the quadruple homicide in rural Lake County last Tuesday. Reports of the abandoned infant in neighboring Dyer County sparked a search for her guardians, leading cops to discover the bodies of the child's parents, Matthew Wilson, 21, and Adrianna Williams, 20. Her maternal grandmother, Courtney Rose, 38, and maternal uncle, Braydon Williams, 15, were also found dead, officials said. Tanaka Brown and Giovonte Thomas, both 29, were charged over the weekend with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder for allegedly assisting Drummond in the killings, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. As officials continue their search for Drummond, here's what we know about the case: The crime Deputies from the Dyer County Sheriff's Office responded to reports at about 3.10 p.m. last Tuesday that a dark-colored minivan had dropped off the child in a car seat at a 'random individual's front yard' in the unincorporated community of Tigrett. It set off a scramble to find the baby's caregivers, Stephen Sutton, a spokesperson for the sheriff's offices in Lake and Dyer counties, said at a news conference Friday. Just before 10.30 p.m., Rose and Williams were reported missing, according to audio of a 911 call obtained by NBC affiliate WMC-TV. The bodies of Wilson, Rose and the two Williamses were found nearly 40 miles away later that evening in a wooded area along Carrington Road in Tiptonville, authorities said. The baby is 'safe and being cared for,' Sutton said. Drummond is wanted for first-degree murder, kidnapping, and unlawful firearm possession in connection with the murders of the four victims. Authorities have not revealed how the four people died, but have ruled their deaths homicides. It was not immediately clear what led authorities to name Drummond as a suspect. The suspect was last seen on Wednesday and believed to be in the Jackson area on Friday, TBI Director David Rausch said. Documents filed by the U.S. Marshals Service later that day speculated that Drummond may have fled the state. Officials said he is considered armed and dangerous. Pickens said that Drummond is a 'confirmed' member of the Vice Lords street gang, one of the largest and most violent prison gangs in the U.S. The suspect had more than two dozen disciplinary issues in prison as of the 2020 parole hearing. They include possession of a deadly weapon, assault, refusing a drug test and gang activity. According to a Facebook profile believed to belong to Drummond, the suspect appeared to post numerous photos from inside jail in June 2023, with the caption: 'Chilling 10 more months.' On September 7, 2024, Drummond posted a selfie with the caption, 'freedom.' The victims Friends and family members of the victims have shared their heartbreak online. Wilson's sister, Amanda Myatt, set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the funeral costs of the four victims. 'Matthew and Adrianna were very loving parents to beautiful baby girl whom that they got to love and support her for 7 months,' she wrote. 'Courtney was sole provider for her kids.' A separate GoFundMe campaign was set up by Wilson's grandmother, who said she hopes to 'provide him a proper service.' A funeral service is expected to be held for Wilson on Tuesday afternoon in Newbern. A friend of Wilson's partner, Williams, told CBS affiliate News Channel 3 that she was 'the sweetest person' who 'loved being a mama.' The couple's last social media update was posted a day after the birth of their little girl. The last photo posted to a Facebook profile believed to belong to Rose, in May, appeared to show her beside her infant granddaughter.

At a press conference today in which Reform UK announced the Tory police and crime commissioner for Leicestershire was joining their ranks, as well as former prison governor Vanessa Frake, I asked Nigel Farage a simple question. But his answer wasn't what I expected. I asked the leader if the six-week campaign on law and order, with the tagline "Britain is Lawless", was in fact project fear scaring people into voting for his party. He utterly rejected that claim and responded to me saying: "No, they are afraid. They are afraid. I dare you, I dare you to walk through the West End of London after 9 o'clock of an evening wearing jewellery. You wouldn't do it. You know that I'm right. You wouldn't do it." I am not afraid to walk in the West End of London after 9pm wearing jewellery. I have done it many times before and will continue to do so… but perhaps that is because I do not own a Rolex. However, just because is wrong on that point, doesn't mean he isn't tapping into other legitimate fears across the country. Snatch theft does worry me, hence why I now have a phone case with a strap attached to it that I can put around my body. And I worry about knife crime in my area and what the impact could be if I were to have children - on the weekend someone was stabbed to death a stone's throw from my house. However, if we look at the statistics, it is invariably a more nuanced picture than Farage or social media might have us believe. According to police reports, , and they've been going up since the pandemic. And the Office for National Statistics (ONS) also notes that thefts outside of the home, eg phone snatching, . However, possession of weapons has fallen in London by 29% over the last three years. And according to the ONS, crime in England and Wales is 30% lower than in 2015, and 76% lower than 1995. And it is a similar picture for violent crime. In short, am I right to be more worried that snatch theft and knife crime in London is increasing? Yes, and no. But Nigel Farage is tapping into voters' emotions - their feelings that the country is broken. It's a picture the helped to create and the happily painted to great effect during the general election campaign of 2024. And the more politicians of all colours tell voters that "the system is broken", the more voters might start to believe them. That is what Nigel Farage is banking on.
