Andy Murray takes on unlikely new sponsorship for historic Scottish brand

SIR Andy Murray has taken on a new job advertising Scottish potatoes as the face of famous brand Albert Bartlett.
The tennis legend has teamed up with the spud supplier for a long-term partnership which will see him plug their products.

Albert Bartlett, who are based in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, said Murray got to know their business over a decade ago as they have been a long-term supplier of potatoes to Cromlix hotel, the five star venue owned by him near Dunblane.
The family-owned company, which was founded in 1948, said the partnership brings together 'two, Scottish-born, British icons with shared community vision and family values'.
Murray, 38, will 'encourage the nation to enjoy a healthy lifestyle through sport and a balanced diet' by promoting the firm's fresh, frozen, and chilled potato ranges.
The deal comes just a month after the three-time Grand Slam champion became the face of another iconic Scottish firm, Walker's Shortbread.
He said: 'I was lucky during my early playing days to have access to the kit and facilities required to play and develop and as my career progressed to have the best diet and training advice available.
'I am excited to partner with Albert Bartlett to showcase the importance of a balanced diet and an active lifestyle to communities across the UK.
'I hope the project inspires people to play and enjoy sport throughout their lives, at whatever level they are able.'
The new partnership between the two will be multi-faceted, beginning with a brand campaign in which Murray will showcase the Albert Bartlett ranges.

Murray retired from tennis after competing for Team GB at the Paris Olympics last summer following a glittering career.
He became the first-ever brand ambassador for Walker's Shortbread earlier this summer and promoted their products during Wimbledon.

While it's often a hard subject to broach, leaving a will, and making our wishes known for funeral plans and what we want after we die, id one of the kindest things we ca do for our loved ones. What happens if I don't have a will? If you die without a Will, the distribution of your estate (your personal possessions, money, and property) will be dealt with under the rules of intestacy (a set of legal rules that dictate who will benefit). Sally Cook at Weightmans says: 'Not many people want to contemplate writing a Will and the implications of what that means; however, it is important to protect your family and assets by doing so. "Getting your affairs in order will provide peace of mind that your wishes will be carried out, your loved ones will be appropriately provided for, and any potential family disputes are mitigated. Inheritance tax can also be planned for in advance, allowing you to pass on more to your loved ones." The intestacy rules also govern who is entitled to deal with the administration of your estate. In Scotland, unmarried partners can make a claim for a share of the estate, but this is subject to the court's discretion and there are strict timescales for applying. Where there is no Will, the cost of administering the estate may be significantly higher. In Scotland, it also becomes necessary in most cases to obtain a form of insurance bond, which adds extra expense and time to the process. Donna Brennan, a specialist in Scottish succession law at Weightmans adds: 'It is also important to ensure that you take advice in the correct jurisdiction, succession laws in Scotland and the rest of the UK are quite different, so if you are domiciled in Scotland or have assets there, appropriate advice should be taken. At Weightmans, we have experts in both jurisdictions.' Will my estate automatically pass to my spouse or partner? It is not automatic that a spouse will inherit the whole of the estate under the intestacy rules. The intestacy rules are constantly subject to change, and the outcomes of dying without a Will can be surprising and often unjust. Making a Will is the only way to ensure your loved ones are provided for in accordance with your wishes as far as possible. In Scotland, a spouse/civil partner has certain prior rights on intestacy which can exhaust the estate, but only up to a certain level, which is subject to change. The intestacy rules do not make any provision for unmarried partners. The best way to ensure a cohabiting partner is provided for is to make a Will. As mentioned above, in Scotland, cohabitees can make a claim subject to strict timeframes, but the outcome is by no means guaranteed. You should review your Will regularly to ensure it continues to reflect your wishes and circumstances As your personal and/or financial circumstances change, you should consider updating your Will. Examples include: Marriage. In England, Marriage will automatically revoke any Will you had in place previously (although this is currently being reviewed by the Law Commission). That is not the case in Scotland, and even more reason why a previous Will should be updated to ensure it benefits the intended parties. A change in family circumstances, for example, having children or grandchildren. Divorce Significant changes in your financial situation It's recommended that you look over your Will every three years to assess whether there have been any changes to the law or tax allowances which could affect your Will and wider estate planning. Recommended reading: Can I include my cryptoassets in my Will? Cryptoassets will automatically form part of your estate on death if they are held in your individual name. It is not always necessary for you to specifically include a reference to your crypto assets in your Will, but care should be taken to ensure that there are sufficient powers in your Will to allow your executors to deal with these assets after your death. It is also important that you make your professional advisor aware of any cryptoassets you may own so that they can discuss with you what provision you have made for these to be accessed after you die. Ultimately, a Will ensures that your family members receive what you intend them to when you are no longer here. The Wrexham-born swimmer has set a new world record by becoming the first person in history to swim Britain's three biggest lakes – Loch Lomond (Scotland), Windermere (England) and Bala's Llyn Tegid (Wales) – back-to-back in a travel inclusive time between lakes of under 24 hours. The two-time British Olympian completed the three swims, totalling over 34-and-a-half miles, in a combined swim time of 12 hours and 15 minutes. In the process, he smashed the previous record for Loch Lomond by an incredible one-and-a-half hours. Swimming through the night, starting at one minute past midnight on Saturday morning in water temperatures as low as 14 degrees, he completed the gruelling 21.6 miles in a new record time of seven hours, 46 minutes and 15 seconds. From Loch Lomond, Pardoe and his support team travelled the 167 miles to Lake Windermere - where he set the current record back in 2023 - in a fleet of electric Jeeps. He was cheered on at the finish by hundreds of supporters lining the lakeside beaches and pontoon to complete the 10.5-mile length in three hours and 38 minutes. After another 152 miles of driving, the next stop was Bala and it was getting dark by the time he entered the water. Cheered on again by large groups of supporters, he mustered up every ounce of energy to complete the astonishing 34.5 miles of swimming - representing almost twice the length of the English Channel, and over 2,220 lengths of a typical 25m public swimming pool. At the end he was greeted by Fergus Feeney, CEO of Swim Wales and crowned 'King of the Lakes'. In the process, Pardoe has so far raised over £6,000 for Surfers Against Sewage and highlighted the need to clean up our waterways. Support and donations keep flooding in to his Just Giving page. He said: 'I knew that this wasn't just about pushing my own limits; it was also about using the platform I've built through sport to fight for the environment that made me. 'Across the UK, our rivers and lakes are being polluted by sewage and agricultural runoff, making them unsafe – not just for athletes like me, but for anyone who wants to enjoy them. I knew that I had to push through my pain, cold and hunger to further highlight this issue. For me it's all about national pride. 'Hopefully I have now thrown down the gauntlet for others to follow. Greggs and KFC team up to launch sausage roll drenched in gravy

The brands said the alliance followed Britons consuming 15,000 litres of KFC gravy and more than one million Greggs sausage rolls every day over the past year. They are taking the new combination on a three-day tour from Thursday, handing it out for free in London on August 7, followed by Manchester on August 8 and Newcastle on August 9. A sharing bucket including six Greggs sausage rolls and a large tub of KFC gravy will be available for £10 on Friday August 15 and Saturday August 16 through Uber Eats in London, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham. KFC brand manager Phoebe Syms said: 'At KFC, we bleed gravy. We go to obsessive lengths for our liquid gold, and so do our fans. 'In fact, it was them who inspired this once-in-a-lifetime event, calling for us to partner with Greggs and unite our iconic gravy with their iconic sausage rolls. 'Now we're joining forces for just a few days to give the people a taste of what they really want … it's time for gravy to meet pastry. You're welcome.' Fiona Mills, brand communications lead at Greggs, said: 'With 96 layers of light puff pastry, and perfectly baked to give that satisfying golden crisp and flaky goodness, we've always known our sausage rolls are a true British icon. And why not pair one icon with another? 'We can't wait to see what Greggs and KFC fans make of our latest partnership. We're sure fans of both brands will enjoy devouring their Greggs x KFC sharing bucket.' The tour will stop at London's Southbank Centre on Thursday, followed by Manchester's Cathedral Gardens on Friday and then Newcastle's Times Square, all between 12pm and 5pm, with supplies available on a first come, first served basis. Last week, Greggs revealed a slump in profits as it was knocked by hot weather and caution among shoppers over their finances. The Newcastle-based business revealed that pre-tax profits fell by 14.3% to £63.5 million for the half-year to June 28, compared with a year earlier. It said the first half of 2025 was impacted by 'challenging market footfall, more weather disruption than in 2024' and increased costs.
