HM King reaffirms Bahrain's commitment to global cooperation, peace, and humanitarian progress

'From its earliest days, the United Nations has served as a model for constructive international cooperation,' His Majesty stated, calling the anniversary an opportunity to reflect on the UN's enduring mission and global impact.
HM King Hamad expressed Bahrain's pride in its UN membership and reiterated the Kingdom's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the global institution to achieve shared development and humanitarian goals.
Dedication
He underscored Bahrain's dedication to enhancing strategic partnerships to face global challenges and ensure their outcomes benefit all of humanity.
His Majesty emphasised that Bahrain's re-election to a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for a two-year term — its second time in the council — was a significant milestone that reflects international confidence in the Kingdom's balanced and constructive diplomatic approach.
'This achievement reflects the confidence of the international community in Bahrain's efforts and balanced diplomacy aimed at promoting global peace and harmony,' HM the King said.
His Majesty also highlighted Bahrain's commitment to global reform and modernisation, particularly in areas such as humanitarian development, digital innovation, education, youth and women empowerment, and intercultural understanding.
He pointed to the efforts of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance as a beacon of Bahrain's values and international outreach.
On the humanitarian front, HM King Hamad reaffirmed Bahrain's unwavering support for the Palestinian people's legitimate rights to live in peace, freedom, and dignity.
International efforts
He reiterated the Kingdom's backing for international efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, secure the release of hostages, and accelerate urgent humanitarian aid and reconstruction.
'We look forward to the implementation of the Bahrain Summit's call to hold an international conference for a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East,' he added.
HM the King congratulated the UN on its 80th anniversary and expressed hope for its continued success, rooted in justice, equality, and the betterment of all people worldwide.

Trump Wants Gaza Deal 'Straightened Out' Within The Next Week
President Trump on Sunday said he hopes a ceasefire deal in Gaza can be finalized within this week, in comments made to reporters before boarding a flight to attend yesterday's FIFA Club World Cup Final. When asked about the ongoing crisis in Gaza, he responded, 'We're talking, and hopefully we'll get that straightened out over the next week. Let's see what happens.' While there had been anticipation in Israel for a deal announcement during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent visit to Washington DC last week, recent days have seen the typical non-committal, ambiguous statements out of both Washington and Tel Aviv. The war looks to have no solutions, given the stated goals of Israel and the United States. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff expressed optimism Sunday, saying he was 'hopeful' an agreement could be reached. But as it stands the Netanyahu government is still insisting on the full disarming of Hamas, while Hamas for its part wants full withdrawal of the Israeli military. Neither is expected to happen, and at this point it looks to be a fight to the death – with Israeli hostages still in limbo (and many feared dead) – and thousands of Palestinian civilians getting slaughtered each week. Currently, a plan floated by some Israeli officials for a designated 'humanitarian city' inside a sector of Gaza has continued to be met with immense pushback. Critics call it in effect a 'concentration camp' – while many within Israel say it is logistically impossible. The plan was announced by Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz last week: Israeli affairs analyst, Dan Perry, says the plan to build a 'humanitarian city' would involve 'by all indications a very long process' to build and maintain, while the country does not have the 'funds or the energy or the desire' to do so. 'I think this has to be viewed in the context of the current negotiations where the very reporting of such a plan might be an effort to put pressure on Hamas to show more flexibility,' Perry told Al Jazeera. 'I agree with [opposition leader Yair] Lapid that it is a security, political and logistical nightmare. I would add that it's ethically inadmissible,' he added. And so it is unlikely to get off the ground. In the meantime aid delivery continues to also be mired in controversy and scandal, as American military contractors have reportedly fired on hungry Palestinians. Reports say the IDF troops have shot dead scores of Palestinians seeking the aid, and UN and international rights groups have slammed the unsafe aid station set-ups. Truce talkslimp on but US hopeful
Stuttering Gaza ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas entered a second week on Monday, with US President Donald Trump still hopeful of a breakthrough and as more than 20 people were killed on the ground. The indirect negotiations in the Qatari capital, Doha, appeared deadlocked at the weekend after both sides blamed the other for blocking a deal for a 60-day ceasefire and the release of hostages. In Gaza, the Palestinian territory's civil defence agency said at least 22 people were killed in the latest Israeli strikes on Monday in and around Gaza City, and Khan Yunis in the south. One strike on a tent in Khan Yunis on Sunday killed the parents and three brothers of a young Gazan boy, who only survived as he was outside getting water, the boy's uncle told AFP. Belal al-Adlouni called for revenge for 'every drop of blood' saying it 'will not be forgotten and will not die with the passage of time, nor with displacement or with death'. AFP reporters in southern Israel meanwhile saw large plumes of smoke in northern Gaza, where the military said fighter jets had pounded Hamas targets over the weekend. Trump, who met Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington last week, is keen to secure a truce in the 21-month war, which was sparked by Hamas's deadly October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. 'Gaza -- we are talking and hopefully we're going to get that straightened out over the next week,' he told reporters late on Sunday, echoing similarly optimistic comments he made on July 4. A Palestinian source with knowledge of the talks told AFP on Saturday that Hamas rejected Israeli proposals to keep troops in over 40 percent of Gaza and plans to move Palestinians into an enclave on the border with Egypt. In response, a senior Israeli political official accused Hamas of inflexibility and trying to deliberately scupper the talks by 'clinging to positions that prevent the mediators from advancing an agreement'. Pressure Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and the Palestinian minister of state for foreign affairs Varsen Aghabekian Shahin headed to Brussels on Monday for talks between the EU and its Mediterranean neighbours. But the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority denied mediareports that any meeting betweenthe two was on the agenda. In Israel, Netanyahu has said hewould be ready to enter talks for amore lasting ceasefire when a dealfor a temporary truce is agreedand only when Hamas lays downits weapons. But he is under pressure to quickly wrap up the war, with military casualties mounting and withpublic frustration both at the continued captivity of the hostagesand a perceived lack of progressin the conflict.
