We're in the thick of summer now, and our favorite way to beat the heat is watching the latest movies across the best streaming services. Whether you're looking for an explosive action thriller or a haunting thriller, there's something for everyone's tastes on this list.
Leading the pack this week is 'A Working Man" on MGM Plus, a Jason Statham-led action movie packed with all the familiar thrills you'd expect. For a more offbeat thriller, the Australian indie hit "In Vitro" just landed on paid video-on-demand platforms.
Netflix also has a new documentary "Trainwreck: Poop Cruise," about a cruise from hell for those morbidly curious. Meanwhile, horror fans are eating good this week between "Nosferatu" arriving on Prime Video and the meditative horror movie "The Woman in the Yard" on Peacock.

With a title like "Poop Cruise," Netflix's latest installment in its "Trainwreck" docuseries is bound to turn some heads (it certainly caught my attention when the trailer popped up on my Netflix account).
What began as a four-day cruise from Texas to Mexico quickly spiraled into chaos for the more than 4,000 passengers and crew aboard when a fire crippled the ship's electrical systems. It left the ship adrift with no engine power, refrigeration, AC, or functioning toilets (in case you couldn't already guess from the voyage's infamous nickname).
Over a harrowing four days stranded at sea, the passengers endured raw sewage seeping into the hallways and dripping down the walls, shortages of food and water, and tensions that erupted into full-blown brawls.

"A Working Man" just might be Jason Statham's Statham-iest film to date. It may lack some of the freshness of his previous outing with director David Ayer, last year's surprisingly charming "The Beekeeper," but fans of Statham's gritty, no-nonsense action hero persona will find much to enjoy.
"A Working Man" sticks to a blueprint that fans of the genre will undoubtedly recognize. Statham stars as Levon Cade, a retired marine turned construction foreman. When a human trafficking ring kidnaps his boss's daughter (Arianna Rivas), he's forced to dust off his deadly set of skills for one last mission.
His search pulls him into a dark criminal conspiracy, setting off a chain of events that puts his hard-earned new life at risk. Audiences have been far more enthusiastic about "A Working Man" than critics, likely because there's nothing quite like seeing Statham dismantle a Russian mafia militia with just his fists (oh, and a decorative ox skull he yanked off the wall).

Director Jaume Collet-Serra, known for "The Shallows" and "House of Wax," brings his signature style of horror to "The Woman in the Yard" for a terrifying spin on the Boomer mantra, "Get off my lawn!"
"Till" actress Danielle Deadwyler stars as Ramona, a mother of two who is grappling with grief and guilt after the sudden death of her husband. Since she lives in an isolated, half-renovated farmhouse, she's understandably alarmed when a mute woman covered head to toe in black appears in her yard. Especially when the stranger breaks her silence to deliver a chilling message: "Today's the day."
This time around, the terror has a more psychological bent than Collet-Serra's previous films, delivering a slower, moodier descent into unraveling sanity. Each scare skillfully builds the film's central mystery for a payoff that feels as genuinely satisfying as it is haunting.

Robert Eggers once again cements his status as a modern master of horror with "Nosferatu," a haunting reimagining of the 1922 silent classic inspired by Bram Stoker's "Dracula." While the storyline closely mirrors the original, Eggers injects his signature atmospheric dread and a streak of dark humor for a chilling experience that feels both timeless and uniquely his own.
Set in the late 1830s, the film follows newlyweds Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult) and Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp) as they become wrapped up in a slow-burning nightmare. When Thomas travels to the foreboding estate of Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård) in Transylvania for a business deal, eerie visions that have haunted Ellen since childhood begin to resurface.
Though the villagers warn Thomas to keep his distance, he forges onward and discovers that Orlok is no mere recluse but rather something far more horrifying: a terrifying monster with its sights on Ellen's soul.

This Australian indie sci-fi thriller earned a rare 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many highlighting how it winds up the tension with its unsettling score and precisely executed jolts.

Squid Game creator reveals he wants to create a spin off
The final season of Squid Game just dropped and we have mixed emotions. While we're buzzing to be reunited with Seong Gi-hun as he fights for survival in the ever-deadlier games, we're also gutted that this is going to be the last series. Or is it? This comes as the show's creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, reveals that he has an idea for a spin-off in mind. And, that he knows exactly what it's going to be about. Plus, with Squid Game being one of Netflix's most popular shows of all time, who's to say that his vision won't be turned into reality? In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner revealed that his "faint ideation" involved a spinoff "about the three-year gap between season 1 and season 2 when Gi-hun looks around for the recruiters." Dong-hyuk continued: "There is that three-year period, and maybe I could have a portrayal of what the recruiters or Captain Park [Oh Dal-su] or officers or masked men were doing in that period, not inside the gaming arena, but their life outside of that. So that is some vague ideation that I have that could possibly be developed in the future." While this all sounds amazing (petition for Netflix to pick this up immediately), the creator also confirmed in the same interview that season 3 of Squid Game really is going to be the end. He also said that it'll be obvious that the show has come to a close. ICYMI, the latest - and last - series sees Gi-hun on a mission to end the games completely. Dong-hyuk expands: "Season 3 is indeed a finale, and you'll be able to feel that once you watch." But the hope that we're clinging on to? "I'm not trying to say that I'm going to close the door to spinoffs or sequels altogether because they say never say never," he concludes. Squid Game season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.

5 best movies you missed in theaters in 2025 (so far), that you can stream right now
Every year, at least a few quality movies don't get the attention they deserve. While I was delighted to see the likes of 'Sinners' break out and find a larger audience, plenty of other flicks weren't so fortunate and didn't get their equally deserved moment in the spotlight. We're now almost halfway through 2025, and this year is proving no exception. For all the great films that have earned critical plaudits and audience adulation, off to the side in the shadows, you'll find some must-watch movies that struggled to break into the mainstream. The good news is that, thanks to streaming, these movies have a second shot at gaining some deserved attention, so even if you missed them in theatres, you can still circle back to watch them in the comfort of your own home. I've been to the cinema more than 40 times in 2025 already, and of all the flicks I've seen on the big screen, these are the five that you (probably) missed but can stream right now. 'Restless' is an utterly rage-inducing watch as you witness protagonist Nicky (Lyndsey Marshal) spiral further and further as she attempts to deal with a nightmare neighbor. A salt-of-the-earth care worker, Nicky's quiet life is upended when a party animal, with a highly questionable circle of friends, moves in next door and disrupts her peace. With the authorities disinterested in helping resolve the matter, this typically mid-mannered woman is forced to take matters into her own hands as a lack of sleep sees her start to lose her grip on reality. Lyndsey Marshal is electric in the leading role, and Nicky's arc is seriously sympathetic, especially when the new neighbor, Deano (Aston McAuley), becomes increasingly aggressive after Nicky begs him to turn his music down so she can get some much-needed rest. Playing on Nicky's sense of powerlessness, 'Restless' will have you almost shaking with anger as much of its runtime is dedicated to watching the likeable lead beaten down and intimidated by the, unfortunately, realistic situation. The ending attempts to bring a sense of catharsis, but it goes a little too far into slapstick territory, but at least it closes things on a more hopeful note. Buy or rent on Prime Video now 'The Ballad of Wallis Island' earned my affection from its very first scene. This overlooked comedy-drama is consistently chuckle-worthy, largely thanks to the sharp comedic spirit of Tim Key, but underneath the gentle gags is an emotionally impactful tale with a melancholic edge. Charles Heath (Key) is a lottery winner living on the remote Wallis Island, who opts to spend his winnings on convincing his musician heroes, Herb McGwyer (Tom Basden) and Nell Mortimer (Carey Mulligan), to reunite and play a special one-off concert just for him. McGwyer Mortimer, a fictional folk duo with more than a little bit of Fleetwood Mac about them, were once surging up the charts, but a decade prior disbanded in acrimony, and haven't played together since. Once on the Welsh island, they begin to reminisce on the past, and before long, old romantic tensions have sparked up, with Charles very much trying to play peacemaker. Those craving high-stakes drama or fiery confrontations won't find them here, but instead 'The Ballad of Wallis Island' offers something much richer, a genuine soul. It's wonderfully warming, with just the right amount of wistfulness. Plus, the McGwyer Mortimer tunes performed by Basden and Mulligan are fantastic. Watch on Peacock now 'Drop' is probably as close to a modern-day Alfred Hitchcock movie as you could possibly get, and as any fan of the Master of Suspense will tell you, that is a massive compliment. Violet Gates (Meghann Fahy) is a widowed mother, reluctantly leaving her young son at home, to meet a singleton at a swanky restaurant at the insistence of her sister (Violett Beane). Her date is the handsome and extremely charming Henry (Brandon Sklenar), and just when Violet is considering letting her defenses down, she receives a mysterious text message. The unidentified messenger informs her that sinister figures have taken her son and sister hostage, and will murder them unless Violet does exactly what they instruct and kills Henry. Thrust into a nightmare date, Violet attempts to protect her family while unmasking those behind the murderous plot. Director Christopher Landon expertly builds tension throughout, and each new plot wrinkle is dished out at a well-considered clip. Sure, you might be able to guess the big reveal (the killer's identity is a little obvious), but even if you figure out the destination, the road to get there is a complete blast. Buy or rent on Prime Video now Nicolas Cage continues to pick interesting projects, and 'The Surfer' is another wild entry in his filmography that lets the veteran actor go completely off the rails. It's perhaps his most unhinged role since 2018's 'Mandy,' and presents an increasingly surreal descent into madness. Cage plays an unnamed man who brings his son to a stunning beach for a spot of surfing. The oceanside setting is where the man grew up, and where he plans to buy a plush home just a stone's throw away from the glittering sand. However, their attempts to catch some waves are ruined when the residents rebuff them and declare that surfing on the beach is for 'locals only.' Refusing to walk away from the conflict, the man sticks around and endures several days of sheer torment as his life falls apart around him, and even his own identity is called into question. Finding great success in the thick sense of mystery — you'll soon wonder as to why the locals are being so cruel to Cage's character — 'The Surfer' is a movie where you need to embrace the chaos. Sadly, its narrative ambitions prove to be overstretched, with an ending that fails to bring things to a truly satisfying conclusion. Nevertheless, at its peak, 'The Surfer' is mesmerizing. Buy or rent on Prime Video now Your enjoyment of 'Presence' will most likely come down to how much you can appreciate a movie for trying something new. On the surface, this supernatural horror-thriller appears fairly cookie-cutter, but its unique element comes in the way Steven Soderbergh opts to frame proceedings. See, 'Presence' is a haunted-house movie told from the perspective of the unseen entity that is watching the Payne family, who have just moved into a large new suburban house, unaware of its ghostly occupant. Rather than the spectre being a mystery to viewers, they are literally the POV character. I suspect some viewers will find 'Presence' unbearably slow, but I enjoyed the family drama and the increasing sense of unease that builds up to a sombre finale. Much of what works about "Presence" is also a credit to the cast, which is anchored by Callina Liang, Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan and Eddy Maday. Even if the movie's narrative credentials come up a little short on occasion, at a trim 85 minutes, there's no time to get bored, and Soderbergh plays up the movie's original perspective in some creative ways. The general sense of dread in the air also adds to the stakes and keeps you invested throughout. Watch on Hulu now

New on Netflix in July 2025 — every movie and show coming this month
Netflix has announced everything coming to the streaming service in July 2025, and there are some heavy hitters. It wasn't too hard to find five must-watch shows and movies that you need to add to your watchlist. First up is "The Old Guard 2." This superhero movie is the sequel to 2020's "The Old Guard," which we ranked number 78 on our list of the top 100 superhero movies. Starring Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman, it's undoubtedly the top title this month. Then there's "The Sandman" season 2, which is arriving in three waves this month for a bittersweet series finale. If you watched the first season of the DC Comics adaptation in 2022, you'll know that this show isn't one to miss. Aside from these top picks, I've got the full slate of everything new to Netflix this month listed below. Plus, we have a roundup of what's leaving Netflix in July 2025, so you have one last chance to watch. Here's everything coming to — and leaving — Netflix this month. "The Old Guard 2" has Charlize Theron reprising as Andromache of Scythia (known to her friends as Andy). She's the leader of a group of immortal soldiers who are mercenaries for hire. But immortality gives you a lot of time to make enemies, and Andy has made a powerful one in Quyhn (Ngô Thanh Vân) — a fellow immortal whom Andy left to drown for eternity 500 years early. She's not the only one targeting Andy and her soldiers, either. Discord (Uma Thurman) is hunting her down and she's the first of the immortals, so there's no tougher foe out there. Stream on Netflix starting July 2 "The Sandman" was a favorite of a few of us here at Tom's Guide (myself included) when it came out in 2022. So when it was renewed relatively quickly later that year, I was excited for more. Since that announcement, though, Netflix has also decided to cancel the show, making season 2 its final season. This was in no small part due to the allegations of sexual assault against Neil Gaiman, who created "The Sandman" and was an executive producer on the Netflix series. Despite this bittersweet ending, it does look like Netflix spared no expense for Lord Morpheus's (Tom Sturridge) last hurrah, and the trailer brings back some familiar faces. I'm personally most excited for the return of The Corinthian (Boyd Holbrook), who was the main villain of season 1. Volume 1 drops six episodes on July 3, with Volume 2 dropping the final five episodes of season 2's main storyline on July 24. A series finale special episode will arrive on July 31, bringing the show to a close. Stream Volume 1 on Netflix starting July 3 "Too Much" stars Megan Stalter as Jessica, who leaves New York for London after a bad breakup. There, she meets Felix (Will Sharpe), an indie musician who is not the Hugh Grant type she was hoping to meet, but he might just be the right person for her right now. This show was one of my most anticipated Netflix shows of 2025 when the year started, and it still is. Stalter has been great in "Hacks," I've loved Sharpe in "The White Lotus" season 2 and "A Real Pain and while show creator Lena Dunham isn't always everyone's favorite, there's no denying that she's created brilliant TV before. Stream on Netflix starting July 10 "Happy Gilmore" is likely on Adam Sandler's Mount Rushmore of greatest performances. The ice hockey player turned professional golfer was iconic in the 90s and it still is today. At least, that seems to be what Netflix is counting on, as "Happy Gilmore 2" looks like more of the same as the first movie based on the official trailer. This sequel is set 30 years after winning the Tour Championship in the first movie, and has a retired Happy needing to return to golf to pay for his daughter Vienna's (Sunny Sandler) ballet school. But a familiar face in Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) is standing in Happy's way, and is on a quest to take back his title. Stream on Netflix starting July 25 "Untamed" is a new Netflix miniseries created by Mark L. Smith, who most recently was part of the team behind "American Primeval," a miniseries from Peter Berg that debuted on Netflix earlier this year. So it's safe to say that the creative team behind this new thriller set in Yellowstone National Park has some familiarity with the expanse of the wild American West. In this murder mystery, a woman's death in the national park has federal agent Kyle Turner (Eric Bana) looking for answers. To find them, he will need to go into the depths of the park, where the only laws that rule are the laws of nature. Stream on Netflix starting July 17 JULY 1 "Attack on London: Hunting The 7/7 Bombers" (GB) (Netflix documentary) Insider accounts and never-seen-before footage tell the story of the 7/7 bombings on London's transport network in 2005 — and its explosive aftermath. "Trainwreck: The Cult of American Apparel" (GB) (Netflix documentary) Featuring tell-all interviews with insiders and former staff, this exposé traces American Apparel's journey from fashion phenomenon to financial flop. JULY 2 "The Old Guard 2" (Netflix film) Andy and her team of immortal warriors fight with renewed purpose as they face a powerful new foe threatening their mission to protect humanity. "Tour de France: Unchained" season 3 (GB) (Netflix documentary) In a thrilling 2024 Tour de France, larger teams dominate while smaller ones struggle to survive — and recent injuries cast a long shadow for some.
