
Married couple found burnt in bathroom after house fire
The victims, Mamat @ Jamrin Sinti and his wife, Noorijah Rashid, both aged 47, were discovered in the bathroom of the property.
District Fire and Rescue station chief Elge Bakuk said an emergency call was received at 2.52am.
A team of 10 personnel, along with a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was dispatched to the scene to carry out firefighting operations.
"Upon arrival, the fire had fully engulfed a single-storey permanent structure. A Proton Saga parked nearby was also destroyed in the blaze.
"After the fire was brought under control at 3.22am, two victims were found burnt in the bathroom," he said when contacted today.
He added that the operation used one hose line and two jets, with water sourced from the fire engine.
"The victims' remains were handed over to the police for further action. Once it was confirmed that there were no other hazards at the site, the operation concluded at 4.55am," he said.
Meanwhile, district police chief Superintendent Shahrudin Mat Husain said the couple's remains were taken to the Forensic Unit of Kota Belud Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
"The man worked as a rubber tapper. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department," he said.

SEMPORNA: A man in his 40s has been reported missing while fishing off water near Balimbang jetty, Pulau Bum Bum, here, on Saturday. He then received treatment at Semporna Hospital and was allowed to return home at 8am. The Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said the department received a distress call from the Police following the incident at 6.15am and deployed a team of Fire and Rescue personnel to the scene. The team was informed that a man was feared missing after he went fishing at about 4am on Saturday. 'A Search and Rescue (SAR) operation was launched with the other agencies within a three-kilometre radius. Driver dies, teen injured in Ranau crash

RANAU: A 42-year-old man died and another was injured after the Perodua Kancil they were travelling in collided with a palm fruit-laden lorry along KM45 of the Ranau-Telupid Road on Sunday. The Fire and Rescue Department said the car, believed to be heading towards Ranau, had veered into the opposite lane before the crash at about 1.15pm. The driver, Sylvester Pius Gulmit, was confirmed dead while receiving treatment at the Paginatan Health Clinic. His 18-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries, including scratches and bruises. Fire Dept probes viral porn video linked to auxiliary firefighter
MARANG: The Fire and Rescue Department is conducting an internal investigation into an auxiliary firefighter allegedly linked to a pornographic video that recently went viral on social media. Department director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad said that although the individual in the video was not in uniform, an investigation was launched after the department found several other posts on the man's social media account showing him wearing a Fire Department uniform. "The Integrity Unit has been instructed to form an investigation team to identify the source of the video's circulation and verify the true identity of the individual involved. "If the investigation confirms his involvement, he could be immediately suspended from duty in accordance with the terms of his service scheme," he said at a press conference after closing the Madani Rakyat Community Firefighting Programme at the Auditorium Hall of the Fire and Rescue Academy in Wakaf Tapai today.
