Workshop outlines role of artificial intelligence in enhancing tourism promotion
The workshop was aimed to enable tourism sector partners to use AI technologies in improving promotional performance and promoting the competitiveness of tourist destinations in the Sultanate of Oman. The approach focused on introducing practical AI applications for the development of promotional content, the analysis of sentiments and predictive targeting.
The workshop also included presentations about successful regional and international models on the use of AI in this field, with the aim of upgrading the efficiency of workers in the tourism sector and enabling them to adopt global practices in tourism promotion. The overall objective is to enhance the Sultanate of Oman's position as a prominent tourist destination.
A training programme associated with the workshop focused on the ethical use of artificial intelligence tools and the analysis of tourism data to be used in conducting promotional and marketing campaigns that align with the objectives of Omani tourism brands.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism will announce the launch of a sustainability training programme via the Partner Support Platform, which seeks to build the capacity of the tourism sector workers and provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve a balance between tourism growth and the preservation of natural and cultural resources.
The workshop was one of the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry to develop the tourism sector's potential and ensure its readiness to deal with future needs in a manner that serves the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

OIA discusses investment cooperation in Mongolia
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Abdulsalam al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), met Gombojav Zandanshatar, Prime Minister of Mongolia, in Ulaanbaatar on Monday to discuss avenues of bilateral cooperation in investment and economic sectors. Discussions centred on identifying opportunities in mining, energy, agriculture and food production. The meetings also explored ways to boost trade exchange, establish joint projects and create a supportive environment for long-term investment. Both sides committed to intensifying technical dialogue in the coming phase, with the aim of laying the groundwork for executive frameworks to guide bilateral cooperation. The visit reflects the shared interest of Oman and Mongolia in developing a diverse and sustainable strategic partnership. Officials from both sides noted the potential for growth in several sectors that align with their respective economic and development goals. Ibri sees tourism boom as GCC travellers transit to Dhofar
Ibri – The wilayat of Ibri in Dhahirah governorate is experiencing a noticeable rise in tourist and commercial activity during the months of July and August, driven largely by its strategic location as a transit point for travellers from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries heading to Dhofar by road. This seasonal movement has led to a sharp increase in demand for accommodation, with many hotels and rest houses in Ibri reporting occupancy rates between 85% and 100%, according to Ali bin Khamis al Sudairy, Assistant Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department in Dhahirah. 'The governorate is witnessing significant hotel sector activity during the khareef season, which reflects growing interest from travellers using Ibri as a stopover en route to Dhofar,' said Sudairy. By the end of July 2025, the number of licensed hotels and accommodation facilities in Dhahirah had reached 55, up from 48 at the end of 2024—representing a 14.5% growth. The figure is expected to rise further by the end of the year, he added. Sudairy highlighted the strategic importance of the Rub al Khali border crossing, which links Oman to Saudi Arabia. He said the route has boosted land-based tourism and opened up investment opportunities along the corridor. 'New facilities such as fuel stations, express service centres, hotels and rest houses are contributing to the economic vitality of the governorate,' he said. Ibri's markets, malls, restaurants, cafés and other commercial establishments are also witnessing increased footfall during this period. Sudairy noted that the uptick in economic activity is creating both seasonal and long-term job opportunities for Omani youth across several sectors.
