Problem of plenty gives Amol Muzumdar a good headache
India head into the ODI series against England with confidence, having recently secured a 3-2 series win over them. This ODI series carries added significance as it serves as key preparation for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, which India will host later this year.
With several players delivering standout performances, competition for spots in the World Cup squad is heating up.
"So I think there's a lot of depth in this Indian line-up, a good headache to have as a coaching staff.' said Muzumdar.
One of the biggest selection calls before Muzumdar is picking Smriti Mandhana's opening partner. Pratika Rawal currently leads the race in the ODI format, having impressed since her debut against West Indies last December. In 11 ODIs, she boasts an outstanding average of 63.80 with five centuries to her name.
Meanwhile, Shafali Verma made a strong return to the T20I side during the England tour after being dropped following India's early exit from the T20 World Cup last October. She scored 176 runs at an average of 35.20 and an explosive strike rate of 158.55. Despite not being included in the ODI squad for the England series, Muzumdar stated that Shafali remained in the scheme of things for the ODI format as well.
"Pratika Rawal, she was drafted in the month of December, so it's almost six months, but she has left a big mark in her initial stage in her international career," he said.
'And Shafali has been a terrific player. There's no doubt about it that she will be in the mix. She will be amongst the core group of India. There's no doubt in my mind about it. But at the moment, Pratika has joined the squad probably four or five days prior to the ODI. The depth is stronger, it's getting stronger," Muzumdar said.
Another youngster to shine in the series was Shree Charani, who was named Player of the Series for the T20I leg after claiming 10 wickets. Muzumdar credited the WPL for unearthing such promising talent, an ICC report said.
"She's been a find of the WPL. From the WPL, we identified her and then I think her progress has been fantastic, she's been phenomenal in this series. We were searching for a left-arm spinner and she fitted the bill perfectly," he said.
While ODI World Cup might be the immediate concern, India also have their sights set on the next ICC Women's T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in England next year.
"We had that in our mind when we came back from Sri Lanka and we started our preparation for this tour. We were on the same page, all of us, including the selectors, thinking that there's a World Cup in 2026, same place, in England, so we've picked the squad accordingly.' said Muzumdar.
Muzumdar believed India's England outing this year will hold them in good stead for the T20 World Cup.
'We've started on a good note, I guess, winning the T20 series here against England 3-2, that too the first time ever. So it's a pleasing result. The preparation has already started,' he added.

Siraj vs Duckett: Here's how much Indian pacer is fined for fiery send-off
Mohammed Siraj's intense celebration after dismissing Ben Duckett during Day Four of the third Test at Lord's has landed him in hot water with the ICC. The fiery India pacer has been handed a fine amounting to 15 per cent of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Code of Conduct. The incident occurred during a tense session of play that saw 14 wickets fall in a single day, with Siraj right in the thick of the action. Siraj, who has picked up four wickets in the match so far, celebrated Duckett's wicket with visible aggression—a moment that may have lifted the energy on the field but crossed the line in the eyes of match officials. As per the ICC, the fast bowler's behaviour breached Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct, which deals with actions that could provoke or antagonise a dismissed batter. ICC pulls up Siraj for 'provocative conduct' According to the ICC's statement, Siraj's send-off included walking aggressively towards Duckett after taking the wicket and making physical contact as the English batter began his walk back. The governing body noted that this conduct was deemed inappropriate and a Level 1 offence under its disciplinary framework. A match official stated in the report that Siraj's celebration could have escalated tensions had it not been quickly controlled. Although no formal hearing was necessary—with Siraj admitting the offence and accepting the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson—the demerit point adds to his previous record. He now has two demerit points in a 24-month period. What this means for Siraj While the sanction is relatively minor, it does bring Siraj closer to potential suspension territory. If a player accumulates four demerit points within two years, they are converted into suspension points, which could lead to a ban for one or more matches. Despite the reprimand, Siraj remained crucial to India's dominance at Lord's. Shortly after Duckett's dismissal, he removed Ollie Pope for just four, helping India reduce England to 42 for two in their second innings. England were eventually bowled out for 192, leaving India a target of 193, with 135 still to chase going into the final day.

ENG vs IND 3rd Test live streaming: Where to watch Day 5 live for free?
The final day of the third Test between England and India at Lord's will be played today, with the match finely poised and a winner almost certain to emerge. India need 135 more runs to seal victory and take a 2-1 lead in the series, while England require six wickets to do the same. With three full sessions available and a relatively modest target, the chances of a draw are minimal. India will bank on the presence of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar to guide them home. A series of 30-odd contributions from any of these capable batters might be enough for the visitors to get across the line. However, they'll be tested by a surface that has played tricks throughout the match — even without much grass — and especially under the pressure of Day 5 conditions at Lord's. England, high on adrenaline from the late surge on Day 4, will look to land early blows this morning. If they can remove two or three key batters in the opening hour while keeping the runs in check, they could wrest control and edge closer to an unlikely win.
