Kyrgyzstan's Petrashov hopes landmark medal at worlds brings more support
Petrashov is one of just two swimmers from Kyrgyzstan at the meet alongside Aiymkyz Aidaralieva but the 25-year-old made his presence felt by finishing behind Qin Haiyang of China and Italian Nicolo Marinenghi at the Singapore Sports Hub.
His time of 58.88 was a national record and earned Kyrgyzstan their first-ever medal at the world championships.
It was also just 0.65 seconds off Qin's winning mark.
"I'm not an emotional person, but this is very emotional for me. First medal for my country at the worlds, so very proud and happy. I was not expecting this at all," said Petrashov, who was swimming in lane 1.
"I had no idea where I was in the race. I saw the turn, we were close to each other, but I didn't see anything.
"Of course we all want to win something. This was the final, I had nothing to lose. If you have a lane, you have a chance. It means a lot."
Petrashov, who has competed at three Olympic Games and won silver at the Youth Olympics in 2018, hoped his medal would raise the profile of the sport in the Central Asian country.
"Swimming is not very popular in my country. Hopefully, we'll get more resources for swimming. We don't have an Olympic-sized pool in Kyrgyzstan," he added.
"Hopefully this is a big step to more things."

Lewis Hamilton torn apart as Italian media turn on Ferrari star after Hungary GP nightmare
Lewis Hamilton endured a torrid Hungarian Grand Prix, with the Italian media not holding back in their assessments of the Ferrari driver following his self-deprecating comments Italian media have delivered a scathing verdict on Lewis Hamilton 's dismal Hungarian Grand Prix. The Ferrari star's season has been hugely underwhelming, given the hype and anticipation surrounding his switch from Mercedes at the beginning of this season. After being eliminated in the first part of both the sprint and main qualifying sessions last weekend in Belgium, the seven-time world champion endured his most difficult weekend yet in Ferrari colours at the Hungaroring. He failed to make it past the second qualifying session, managing to secure only a 12th-place grid position during Saturday's qualifying. Team-mate Charles Leclerc clinching pole position - Ferrari's first this season - only added insult to injury for the Brit. Afterwards, a dejected Hamilton delivered an alarmingly downbeat interview, saying: "I'm just useless," before suggesting that Ferrari "probably need to change the driver". Sunday's race proved equally disappointing as he struggled to make up the positions on a challenging circuit and crossed the line in 12th, failing to score any points. His defeated demeanour and ongoing difficulties with the Italian team this season have sparked widespread speculation among supporters and pundits about whether age is finally catching up with the 40-year-old and whether his time in F1 could be up. Italian publication Corriere della Sera pulled no punches in their assessment of Hamilton's weekend, branding him a "schoolboy". The publication wrote: ''A master of communication who now struggles to find the words, alternating between disheartening statements and hollow clichés. 'Lewis looks like a schoolboy reluctantly dragged out from behind the chalkboard—desperately in need of a trip to anywhere without corners, kerbs, or people dressed in red.'' Another Italian outlet, La Repubblica, went as far as giving the Brit a brutally low grade, labelling his weekend a four out of 10: ''Starting 12th, finishing 12th - a flat-line performance. His Saturday remarks made waves: a self-admission that he's the wrong kind of driver and needs to change. 'Sunday didn't bring any improvement. He struggled, fought hard, but ultimately ended up sadly outside the points. Fans are left unsure what to make of it all.'' La Gazette Dello Sport also gave Hamilton a disappointing mark of five out of 10 for his weekend. However, an opinion piece in the paper also read: "A champion is never a champion by chance. Lewis is struggling, but he'll recover; he's done it before." Hamilton confessed post-race that he felt "the same" as he had after qualifying. "When you have a feeling, you have a feeling. There's a lot going on in the background that is not great," he told Sky Sports F1 when asked if he could expand on his Saturday comments. But he did go on to say: "I'm sure there are positives to take from the weekend and I'm sure there's learnings." And discussing his mindset ahead of the summer break, Hamilton said: 'Same as it was yesterday. I'm glad it's over. I'm looking forward to going away.' Hamilton now has a chance to reset before the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of this month. While currently being in sixth place in the drivers' standings indicates that things may not be as bad as they seem currently, the belief is that more difficult weekends like Hungary could lead the F1 legend to part ways with Ferrari before the end of his contract, which currently runs until the end of the 2026 season.

Manchester United hope to cash in as Italian giants eye Mason Greenwood
Inter Milan have reportedly placed Mason Greenwood on their shopping list this summer, which could see Manchester United cash in. The 23-year-old left the Red Devils for Marseille last year in a deal worth up to £26.6m, signing a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 side. It was a very good first season in France for the England international, who scored 22 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions. Marseille finished second in Ligue 1, behind PSG, with Greenwood the joint top-scorer in the division alongside Ousmane Dembele with 21 league goals. Unsurprisingly his performances have attracted attention, with clubs from the Saudi Pro League linked with a move for the forward. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – click here and sign up before Friday to make sure you don't miss the first edition. Italian publication Corriere dello Sport now report that Inter are also interested in the former Red Devils star. Any deal for Greenwood to leave Marseille would be extremely handy for Manchester United as they inserted a substantial sell-on clause in his contract when they sold the striker last year. Sky Sports reported last year that the 'significant' sell-on clause is 'between 40 and 50 per cent' which would represent a large windfall for the Red Devils. Marseille do not want to sell Greenwood and certainly would not do so cheaply, with sporting director Mehdi Benatia addressing rumours of him leaving this usmmer. 'Greenwood will stay with us. He is not for sale,' Benatia told 365Scores Arabia. 'We want to keep him and consider him a key part of OM's project for the upcoming season.' Appearances: 36 Goals: 22 Assists: 5 Inter will also only make a move if they miss out on Atalanta's Ademola Lookman, who is their primary target. The London-born 27-year-old has handed in a transfer request to the Atalanta hierarchy and is trying to force through a move but a deal is yet to be struck. In a lengthy social media post, Lookman wrote: 'Over the past three years at Atalanta, I've given absolutely everything. Not just as a footballer, but as a person. I've always worn the shirt with pride and tried to represent this club and the city of Bergamo with heart, passion and dedication. 'I came here with the hope of helping this special club grow and together, we've created memories that will stay with me forever. Winning the Europa League and standing shoulder to shoulder with my teammates that night in Dublin celebrating with our fans was one of the proudest moments of my career so far. It still gives me goosebumps thinking about it. 'Atalanta, and especially its supporters, have become a part of me. This place has felt like home from the moment I arrived and I've always tried to repay that love – even in moments where things haven't been easy behind the scenes. 'That's what makes writing this so hard. I have loved every moment but feel that now, after three wonderful years in Bergamo, it is the right time to move on and experience a new adventure. 'There have been numerous clubs approach Atalanta in the past and I have previously always stayed loyal. However, myself and the ownership of the club have been in agreement that now is the right time and the club were clear with me that if a fair offer came in they would allow me to move,' he added. 'Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand. 'As a result and after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer, sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right and I feel that enough is enough. More Trending 'I can confirm I have now handed in a formal transfer request. 'Even throughout the extremely difficult moments I've endured, many of which have remained private and confidential, I have always tried to put the club, the fans and the team first and hoped it would not get to this, but I unfortunately feel there is now little choice. 'To the fans – the heartbeat of this club – I want to say this: I'm truly sorry it's come to this. I hope you can understand this incredibly difficult situation. It's simply about standing up for what I believe is fair and right. The support you have always given me has been incredible and the bond we have created together is special. 'I hope to work together with the club to find an amicable solution for all parties as soon as possible. With love and gratitude, Ademola.'
