High Commissioner of Kenya visits FCCI
Addressing the business community in Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), he said that textile was the only globally recognized sector of Faisalabad but he has now come to know that pharmaceutical, chemicals, food processing, IT and other sectors are now also growing at a much faster pace.
He said that Pakistani investors could invest in Kenya to produce different commodities in addition to its processing, packaging and exports to African and other countries. He mentioned the African Union and said that products manufactured in Kenya could be exported to different countries without any duty.
'Similarly Kenyan products have duty and quota free access to some European and American markets,' he said and added Pakistani investors could also explore this opportunity. He said that we must negotiate trade agreements between Pakistan and Kenya to give a quantum jump to our bilateral trade.
He said that Kenya also offers huge opportunities for the promotion of tourism as it has scenic valleys like Gilgit and Baltistan. He also congratulated FCCI on its Golden Jubilee Year and hoped that it would make tremendous progress in the coming years.
Earlier Rehan Naseem Bharara, President FCCI welcomed the Kenyan High Commissioner and said that our Ministry of Commerce was negotiating on an agreement to provide access to the Pakistani exporters to the eight different African countries including Kenya. He said that Pakistan was importing huge quantities of tea and coffee from Kenya and its investors must consider the cultivation and processing of these products in Pakistan.
He also mentioned some tariff barriers and said that the Kenyan Government should revisit existing tariffs particularly on confectionary products. He also stressed the need to promote direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries and pointed out that some Pakistani banks are reluctant to accept LCs issued by the Kenyan banks. He said that this issue should be resolved on a top priority basis to streamline the banking channels.
Naveed Akram Sheikh, Mirza Zahid Iqbal, Jawad Shafique, Mirza Muhammad Ashraf Mughal and Mian Muhammad Tayyab took part in the question answer session while Qaisar Shams Gucha, SVP offered vote of thanks.
Rehan Naseem Bharara decorated Peter Mbogo Nijru with a special pin of FCCI Golden Jubilee. He also presented a FCCI shield to the Kenyan High Commissioner while they also exchanged gifts with each other. Bonface Njoroge Njuguna, Commercial Attaché of Kenya was also present during this meeting.

Pakistan slams India at UNGA over human rights abuses, state terrorism
Listen to article Pakistan, in a strongly worded statement at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), accused India of widespread human rights abuses, religious persecution, and sponsoring terrorism within Pakistan. Responding to remarks made earlier by the Indian representative, Second Secretary at Pakistan's Permanent Mission to the UN Rabia Ijaz said she was compelled to reply to what she termed a 'misleading and hypocritical narrative' presented by New Delhi. 'This is a classic case of an oppressor masquerading as the victim,' she said, adding that India had 'weaponised hate, normalised mob violence, and institutionalised discrimination' against its own citizens, particularly religious minorities, as well as against the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). She rejected India's invocation of the principle of Responsibility to Protect (R2P), arguing that a state system built on exclusion and repression had 'no moral ground' to invoke such doctrines. She pointed to a spate of mob lynchings, the use of bulldozers for collective punishment, the demolition of mosques, and discriminatory laws that strip citizenship on religious grounds as evidence of systematic state-sponsored oppression. On the Kashmir dispute, Rabia rejected India's claims that the region is an internal matter while reiterating Pakistan's long-standing position that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory. Citing UN Security Council resolutions — including 47 (1948), 91 (1951), and 122 (1957) — she said the people of Kashmir must be allowed to exercise their right to self-determination through a 'free and impartial plebiscite.' 'India had accepted these resolutions and is bound under Article 25 of the UN Charter to implement them,' she said. 'Its continued refusal is a persistent violation of international law.' Rabia further shared Indian involvement in a series of terrorist incidents inside Pakistan, ranging from the 2014 Army Public School attack to a recent assault on a school bus in Khuzdar. She stated that Indian intelligence agencies were supporting banned outfits such as the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) in an ongoing 'covert war' against Pakistan. 'These are not mere accusations,' she said, adding, 'They are backed by documented evidence and public admissions made by former Indian officials.' Concluding her address, the Pakistani envoy cautioned against the selective use of international principles, saying R2P must not become a 'slogan' for states that themselves engage in systematic oppression at home and destabilisation abroad. 'If the international community is truly committed to the principle of protection, it must begin by holding all perpetrators accountable — India included. Paramount settles with Trump over ‘60 Minutes' interview for $16 million
NEW YORK: CBS parent company Paramount late on Tuesday settled a lawsuit filed by U.S. President Donald Trump over an interview broadcast in October, the latest concession by a media company to a president who has targeted outlets over what he describes as false or misleading coverage. Paramount said it would pay $16 million to settle the suit with the money allocated to Trump's future presidential library, and not paid to Trump 'directly or indirectly.' 'The settlement does not include a statement of apology or regret,' the company statement added. Shares of Paramount were up 0.5% in premarket trading on Wednesday. Trump filed a $10-billion lawsuit against CBS in October, alleging the network deceptively edited an interview that aired on its '60 Minutes' news program with then-vice president and presidential candidate Kamala Harris to 'tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party' in the election. In an amended complaint filed in February, Trump bumped his claim for damages to $20 billion. CBS aired two versions of the Harris interview in which she appears to give different answers to the same question about the Israel-Hamas war, according to the lawsuit filed in federal court in Texas. CBS previously said the lawsuit was 'completely without merit' and had asked a judge to dismiss the case. Trump's legal team welcomed the settlement on Wednesday. 'With this record settlement, President Donald J. Trump delivers another win for the American people,' a spokesperson said. Trump escalates feud with Musk Paramount said it also agreed that 60 Minutes would release transcripts of interviews with future U.S. presidential candidates after they aired, subject to redactions as required for legal or national security concerns. A spokesperson for Paramount Chair Shari Redstone was unavailable for comment. The case entered mediation in April. Trump alleged CBS's editing of the interview violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act, which makes it illegal to use false, misleading or deceptive acts in commerce. Media advocacy groups said Trump's novel use of such laws against news outlets could be a way of circumventing legal protections for the press, which can only be held liable for defamation against public figures if they say something they knew or should have known was false. The settlement comes as Paramount prepares for an $8.4-billion merger with Skydance Media, which will require approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. On the campaign trail last year, Trump threatened to revoke CBS' broadcasting license if elected. He has repeatedly lashed out against the news media, often casting unfavorable coverage as 'fake news.' The Paramount settlement follows a decision by Walt Disney -owned ABC News to settle a defamation case brought by Trump. As part of that settlement, which was made public on December 14, the network donated $15 million to Trump's presidential library and publicly apologized for comments by anchor George Stephanopoulos, who inaccurately said Trump had been found liable for rape. Trump must put his words into action It also follows a second settlement, by Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta Platforms, which on January 29 said it had agreed to pay about $25 million to settle a lawsuit by Trump over the company's suspension of his accounts after the January 6, 2021, attack at the U.S. Capitol. Trump has vowed to pursue more claims against the media. On December 17, he filed a lawsuit against the Des Moines Register newspaper and its former top pollster over its poll published on November 2 that showed Harris leading Trump by three percentage points in Iowa. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and an order barring the Des Moines Register from engaging in 'ongoing deceptive and misleading acts and practices' related to polling. A Des Moines Register representative said the organization stands by its reporting and that the lawsuit was without merit. On June 30 Trump dropped the federal lawsuit and refiled it in an Iowa state court.
