Did Zohran Mamdani lie on his naturalization form? Rep Andy Ogles wonders
Raised in the US since Mamdani immigrated here with his family two decades ago. He became a US citizen in 2018. Since he has made a career out of state politics, having been elected to the New York State Assembly in 2020.

'Bye bye, little muhammad! If you lied on your N-400 naturalization forms, you're going home,' Ogles wrote in a X post, that was posted last night.
This continues a recent series of X post where Ogles urged federal authorities to investigate Mamdani's naturalisation, raising the possibility that he may have gained citizenship through 'willful misrepresentation or concealment of material support for terrorism.'
'Zohran 'little muhammad' Mamdani is an antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York. He needs to be DEPORTED. Which is why I am calling for him to be subject to denaturalization proceedings,' Ogles wrote in another post.
While the claims stem from Mamdani's past career as a rapper when he reportedly used the phrase, 'Free the Holy Land Five / My guys,' a line alluding to the Holy Land Foundation, a Texas-based charity that was convicted in 2008 for funnelling money to Hamas.
'While I understand that some may raise First Amendment concerns about taking legal action based on expressive conduct, such as rap lyrics, speech alone does not preclude accountability where it reasonably suggests underlying conduct relevant to eligibility of naturalization,' Ogles wrote.
'If an individual publicly glorifies a group convicted of financing terrorism, it is entirely appropriate for federal authorities to inquire whether the individual engaged in non-public forms of support — such as organizational affiliation, fundraising, or advocacy — that would have required disclosure on Form N-400 or during a naturalization interview.'

The N-400, which every permanent resident applies to and has to fill out, is the process of gaining the status of U.S. citizenship. These are such questions as the mentioned membership in organisations, political parties, and engagement in any activities which may be deemed as a threat to the U.S. national security.
'The naturalization process depends on the good-faith disclosure of any affiliation with, or support for, groups that threaten US national security,' Ogles continued. 'If Mr. Mamdani concealed relevant associations, that concealment may constitute a material misrepresentation sufficient to support denaturalization under federal law.'

'Not like some performance artist': Indian-origin Trump cabinet member shows how to eat daal-rice with spoon, takes a jibe at Mamdani
Indian-origin Harmeet K Dhillon showed how to eat rice, daal with spoons. Without naming NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, Harmeet K Dhillon, the assistant attorney general for civil rights at the US Department of Justice, waded into the rice controversy as she shared a photo of rice and lentils in two different pots with spoons in both of them. "Mom sent me home from the weekend with daal and I'm hearing and eating with a spoon -- not like some like some performance artist LARPing philistine!" Dhillon, who was born in India (Punjab) wrote. A major controversy broke out as a video of Zohran Mamdani eating rice with his hand went viral. The anti-Mamdani sentiments soon turned into anti-India as eating with hands is an accepted form of eating in India. GOP leader, Congressman Brandon Gill called Mamdani uncivilized as he pointed out that civilized people in America don't eat with their hands. "If you refuse to adopt Western customs, go back to the Third World," Gill wrote. The Congressman was reminded that his wife is of Indian-origin and she definitely eats with her hand. Brandon Gill's wife Danielle D'Souza Gill joined the debate and said she did not grow up eating rice with her hands and always used a fork. "I did not grow up eating rice with my hands and have always used a fork. I was born in America. I'm a Christian MAGA patriot. My father's extended family lives in India and they are also Christian and they use forks too," Danielle wrote. Danielle's father Dinesh D'Souza, a Conservative commentator who was born in India, said eating with hands is gross in America, but not in India. Reating to a now viral photo of him eating with his hand, D'Souza wrote: "My culture lesson for Mamdani: Eating with your hands is acceptable when it's bread, naan or pizza. Not when it's soup, meatloaf or mashed potatoes. Indians sometimes eat rice with their hands in India, but it's much more common in rural areas. In America, it's considered gross." What is the row over eating rice with hands? Mamdani's video grossed many Americans out but a section of social media users debated that it was not eating with hand that disgusted them but Mamdani choosing to do so for a video while he definitely does not use his hands always for eating came across as performative modesty that Mamdani was aiming at.

Committed to addressing all humanitarian matters on priority: India to Pakistan
Against the backdrop of tense Indo-Pakistan relations, India expressed its commitment to prioritise 'all humanitarian matters' and urged Pakistan to expedite the nationality verification process of 80 'believed-to-be-Pakistani' civilian prisoners in India's custody. This was conveyed to Islamabad on Tuesday (July 1, 2025), when the two sides exchanged lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other's custody through diplomatic channels. India also urged Pakistan to release Indian defence personnel believed to be in Pakistan's custody. 'India remains committed to addressing, on priority, all humanitarian matters, including those pertaining to prisoners and fishermen in each other's country. In this context, India has urged Pakistan to expedite the nationality verification process of 80 believed-to-be-Pakistani civilian prisoners and fishermen in India's custody, whose repatriation is pending for want of nationality confirmation from Pakistan,' the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement after lists of prisoners were exchanged between the two sides. The Indian side sent the names of 382 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen in its custody, 'who are Pakistani, or are believed-to-be-Pakistani'. Reciprocating, Pakistan has sent the names of 53 civilian prisoners and 193 fishermen 'who are Indian or are believed-to-be-Indian'. The Indian side asked Pakistan to release Indian fishermen in that country's custody 'along with their boats', and reminded Pakistan of the urgency to release Indian defence personnel, who are believed to be in Pakistan's military and civilian jails. Pakistan was asked to expedite the release and repatriation of 159 Indian fishermen and civilian prisoners who have completed their sentence. 'In addition, Pakistan has been asked to provide immediate consular access to the 26 civilian prisoners and fishermen in Pakistan's custody, who are believed-to-be-Indian and have not been provided consular access so far,' the MEA said, adding that in the past decade, 2,661 Indian fishermen and 71 Indian civilian prisoners have been repatriated from Pakistan. Under the bilateral agreement on Consular Access 2008, such lists are exchanged every year on January 1 and July 1. This agreement was not suspended, as the Indus Waters Treaty has been, and ordinary and medical visas, and trade links after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. India and Pakistan carried out a tit-for-tat expulsion of diplomats during the period that was marked by the terror strike, and Operation Sindoor, but both have maintained diplomatic missions in each other's capitals.
