Prasidh-Sirajs fiery spells keep India in hunt to win Oval Test against England (Day 4 Lunch)
At the stroke of Lunch on Day 4, England are 164/3 with Joe Root and Harry Brook unbeaten on the crease. The Three Lions need 210 more runs, and on the other hand, India needs six wickets to win the game.
Two wickets and 114 runs were scored in this session. One wicket each was scalped by Siraj (2/44 in 12 overs) and Krishna (1/74 in 13 overs) in their respective spells.
The hosts resumed the fourth day of The Oval test from 50/1 with Ben Duckett 34(48) unbeaten on the crease as they still needed 324 runs to win the match. Right-hand batter Ollie Pope joined the opener as the first session kicked off.
Siraj and Akash Deep started the proceedings for the visitors. Both of them bowled tight spells in the first hour of the session as they managed to get a lot of edges from the English batters.
Duckett completed his fifty in 76 balls. He was sent back to the pavilion as Prasidh Krishna dismissed the left-hand batter 54(83).
After the opener's dismissal, Joe Root came out to bat. The hosts crossed the 100-run mark in the 27th over as Pope smashed a boundary on the bowling of Krishna.
At the score of 106, England lost their third wicket as Siraj dismissed Pope 27(34) in the same manner in which he did in the first innings.
Following Pope's dismissal, Harry Brook came out to bat. Just before the end of the first session, the English team touched the 150-run mark.
Brook and Root completed their 50-run partnership in the 36th over. Before going back for Lunch, both batters built an unbeaten 58(63) run partnership.
Earlier on Day 3, before England began its hunt to gun down their second-highest target, Dhruv Jurel was the first to perish after being pinned in front of the stumps by Jamie Overton on 34(46). Ravindra Jadeja continued to fight and brought up his fifty in style by punching the ball through the point for a four. He brought out his sword to celebrate his valiant half-century.
Jadeja's jubilation was short-lived after he gave away a thick outside edge while slashing the ball off Josh Tongue to Harry Brook, stationed at the second slip. After Jadjea's composed 53(77) met its end, Mohammed Siraj soon joined him in the dressing room after being deemed lbw by the umpire in the same over.
Siraj stood in disbelief as the review showed he had got an inside edge, but he had no option but to return, considering India had burned all its reviews. Realising the gravity of the situation, Washington Sundar upped the ante and produced fireworks with his bat in London.
He dispatched the ball for a towering maximum off Gus Atkinson and then smoked the ball into the stands twice off Tongue in the next over. Sundar continued to torment Atkinson by edging the ball for a four and then topping it up by effortlessly hammering the ball for back-to-back boundaries. He brought up his fifty by smacking the ball over deep mid-wicket and making it disappear in the crowd.
Tongue pulled the curtains down on Sundar's run-fest and completed his five-wicket haul. Sundar tried to clip it, but ballooned the ball in the air. Zak Crawley and Jamie Smith went for it and barely managed to avoid a collision with the former, ensuring the ball remained in his hand. As Sundar walked back with his sizzling 53(46), India packed their bags on 396.

Sizzling Siraj swings it India's way
A seesawing series that kept on giving till the final day of the final Test couldn't have ended on a better note as India completed one of their finest comebacks — their lion-hearted performer Mohammed Siraj rightfully providing the exclamation point. The 31-year-old, digging deep into his reserves on the final morning when India needed to bag four wickets and England had to get another 35 runs to clinch the series 3-1, produced an electrifying spell to fashion a nerve-jangling six-run win for the visitors that had the sold-out crowd at The Oval rise up in pure admiration. India and England justly shared the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2. The air was thick with tension in this South London venue as all four results were a possibility in a series where every match had gone into the final hour and both teams had traded blows in equal measure. Almost two hours before the start of play, fans had started to make their way into the historic venue which has been a theatre to several epic battles. What was supposed to be a busy Monday morning looked like a sporting Sunday afternoon. And they were not disappointed as Siraj (5/104) and Prasidh Krishna (4/126) dished out riveting performances that will be spoken about for a long time to come. The start was a bit anti-climactic though, as Jamie Overton pulled the first ball he faced from the incomplete Prasidh over for a boundary and then inside-edged the next one. And just like that the equation was reduced to 27 runs. It looked like England had come out with a definitive plan — Overton to play the big shots early on and reduce the margin as much as possible, and Jamie Smith to hold the other end up. The plan worked in the first three balls and India started to feel the jitters. Siraj, who has toiled hard the entire series without the acknowledgement he deserves, refused to give up, giving a sensational start. He beat the dangerous Smith two straight times before getting him finally off the third ball. He could have had another, but Gus Atkinson's edge fell just short of KL at second slip. Such was the level at which Siraj was operating, he was literally unplayable as batter after batter swung and missed his impeccable out-swingers. Every ball he bowled had a wicket written on it. It was tense, a game certainly not for the weak-hearted. Siraj then had his second scalp, umpire Kumar Dharmasena taking an eternity before raising his index finger to rule Jamie Overton out. Siraj was all pumped up and breathing fire. His energy rubbed off onto Prasidh, who sent back Josh Tongue with a 142 kmph bullet that crashed into the stumps. India were now sensing victory as Chris Woakes, with his left hand in a sling, walked out to bat to a rousing ovation with England needing 17. The pendulum refused to stay still as Atkinson rotated the strike with Woakes, who didn't bat a single ball. And when Atkinson smashed Siraj for a six to reduce the equation to 11, anything was possible. Somehow, England managed to keep fighting, and Atkinson took strike against Siraj with seven needed. Siraj took a moment to soak in the magnitude. He had to deliver in this over because he too was getting tired. It was now or it's over. Having bowled a lot of out-swingers, the Hyderabadi banked on his dangerous in-swinger. He came charging in and bowled a fast one. It was a classic 'you miss, I hit' ball. Atkinson missed it, the ball clattered his stumps and Siraj leapt in 'Siuuu' celebration before being embraced by his team-mates and support staff. Yes is the meaning of the word 'Siuuu' in Portuguese. Oh yes, India completed the Miracle of The Oval. A great finish to the series and a perfect start to Shubman Gill's reign.

When Mohammed Siraj woke up on Monday morning he knew he had to lead from the front if India were to complete a sensational come-from-behind win in the fifth and final Test. With lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah missing the series finale as part of workload management, Siraj had to shepherd the bulk of responsibilities. To accomplish that, Siraj searched for inspiration. He googled for wallpapers that could motivate and the one that struck a chord was an image of Cristiano Ronaldo with his index finger pointing up at the word 'Believe'. Siraj, who is a self-confessed fan of the Portuguese great and even celebrates his wickets like the striker does after scoring a goal, downloaded the image instantly. He kept looking at it constantly until reaching the ground, reminding himself to 'believe' he could help script a famous win for India. That immense self-belief, which has turned Siraj from being the son of an autorickshaw driver to one of the most talked-about fast bowlers in the world today, was visible on a riveting Monday morning at The Oval. Despite having played all the matches of the series and his body battered and bruised, Siraj gave it his all in one final thrust that was spellbinding to watch. Every ball he delivered in 4.1 overs he bowled on the morning had a wicket written on it. Batter after batter struggled to make contact with his out-swingers. And when it swung in, they struggled to handle its pace and sharp inwards trajectory. Siraj was in his zone and, for a change, was rewarded with three wickets, taking his match tally to 5/104.
