Paige Bueckers' Shirley Temple Gatorade sounds weird, tastes ... good

USA Today20-06-2025

Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers loves a good Shirley Temple. So, Gatorade made a custom flavor for her and sent it my way.
If you're unfamiliar with why Gatorade would go out of its way to make such a strange flavor. Allow me to explain: Bueckers, who partnered with the company in 2021, has never been shy about her love for the classic drink. In fact, she's gone out of her way to tweet about how much they mean to her.
"I know a Shirley Temple hates to see me coming," Bueckers shared in 2024.
After a recent home win against the Golden State Valkyries, Gatorade surprised Bueckers with the limited edition creation, and she was totally stoked. "Shirley Temple is like my favorite drink of all time," she excitedly told the media. "So, they put it in a Gatorade flavor. So, pretty fire."
Shout-out to the good folks at Gatorade because they graciously sent me several bottles of Bueckers' favorite flavor, and I tried it. We decided to see if it was actually "pretty fire."
Gatorade's Paige Bueckers-inspired Shirley Temple flavor grade: B
I won't lie. A Shirley Temple Gatorade sounds absolutely strange ― weird even ― but it tastes ... good? Upon opening the bottle, there's this huge burst of cherry scent, and I knew immediately I was in for a ride.
However, to my surprise, it tastes exactly how you think Shirley Temple mixed with Gatorade would taste. (It's hard to explain, but those who know, know.) There's a sweet punch of flavor that stands out immediately, and reflects what would typically be the Grenadine syrup from a Shirley Temple. What's more, while there is no ginger ale, there's an odd something (Gatorade magic perhaps?) that hangs in the background, which gives the subtle undertones of ginger ale. The only thing missing from this is the literal cherry Shirley Temples carry to top it all off.
This special Gatorade flavor also made me think it would taste amazing frozen. Like a slushie of sorts, or like those flavored Fun Pop sticks we used to eat during the summer as kids. (You know the ones. Those flavored frozen juice tubes probably gave us a brain freeze more times than we care to admit because we ate them so fast. It tastes like that. Hello, nostalgia and Summer in a bottle!)
Anyways, this is one of the most Paige Bueckers things I've ever seen, and Gatorade pretty much nailed it as only they can. Kudos to them. It was solid. I probably wouldn't drink it every day ― I'll leave that to Bueckers ― but it was an awesome experience.

Paige Bueckers shares ‘surreal' moment with Kyrie Irving during her historic Wings game

Paige Bueckers achieved what many athletes have likely dreamed of: putting up historic numbers in front of your favorite player of all-time. Not only did the Wing star get that despite the 94-86 loss to the Fever, she also shared a mid-game moment with idol and fellow Dallas celebrity Kyrie Irving on Friday. Bueckers seemingly didn't have time to catch up with the nine-time All-Star prior to the game, but she dapped up Irving — who attended with his daughter — during the game. Advertisement It was her first time meeting Irving. The interaction sent American Airlines Center — home of the Mavericks — and the basketball world into a frenzy. 3 Paige Bueckers finds time to shake Kyrie Irving's hand mid-game against the Fever on June 27. Advertisement 'It was pretty surreal that somebody I've looked up to and has been my favorite player since I was really really young,' Bueckers told reporters after the game. 'So for him to come out an support us and support women's basketball and have his daughter there and get to meet him. He's been like a big brother figure for me, and to finally meet him in person, it was a great moment.' Bueckers walked away from the game with 27 points, six assists, two steals, and two blocks across 36 minutes. She shot 9-of-18 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and was perfect (7-of-7) from the free throw line. Advertisement The performance, per Polymarket Hoops, made her the first player in WNBA history to record a game with at least 25 points, five assists, two steals, two blocks, and zero turnovers. Throughout the night, Irving was loving Bueckers' performance, especially in the fourth quarter as the Wings closed in on the Fever's lead. 3 Paige Bueckers #5 of the Dallas Wings speaks with Dallas Mavericks player Kyrie Irving following a game against the Indiana Fever at American Airlines Center on June 27, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. 'I want to be as unguardable as possible,' she said. 'And I feel like Kyrie is one of the most unguardable people to ever play the game. That starts with scoring at all three levels. So, adapting [to] the mid-range game was super essential for me and my game, and also being able to get to the rim and shooting from behind the 3-point line. So I guess just looking to be a three-level scorer.'

No jumping — this joint-friendly, low-impact workout uses a pair of light dumbbells to build full-body strength in 6 moves

If you're looking for a low-impact, joint-friendly workout that builds full-body strength, challenges your core and gets your heart rate up to help burn fat, I think I've found the perfect routine for you. All you need is some comfortable, sweat-wicking activewear and a light pair of dumbbells. The Pilates-inspired strength and cardio session is led by instructors Steph Newman and Lily Hunter, who demonstrate each move together. Their control and coordination throughout the routine were what really inspired me to give it a try. If you've got a workout buddy, it's a fun challenge to try to match their flow and stay in step together. You'll work through just six exercises, spending 30 seconds on each. For any single-sided moves like the curtsy lunge with bicep curl, make sure to complete the exercise on both sides. Some exercises will feel tougher than others, and as your muscles begin to fatigue, try to maintain good form rather than rushing through the reps. A post shared by STEPH NEWMAN (@pilatesbysteph_) A photo posted by on Newman and Hunter's Pilates-inspired routine is joint-friendly not only because it's all performed standing, but also because it avoids high-impact moves like jumping or quick directional changes that can strain your joints. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Each exercise asks you to pay close attention. It's not your standard dumbbell press or squat where your body can move on autopilot while your mind wanders. This workout requires a real mind-muscle connection, which helps improve control, coordination and overall muscle engagement. While there is a great degree of control executed for each exercise, you will notice in the demonstrations that both trainers move with consistent momentum. As you work through these flowing, repetitive movements, your heart rate should begin to rise, helping you build cardiovascular endurance while strengthening your muscles. Yes, you can build real strength with Pilates, and not just the kind that helps you stand a little taller. Pilates might not involve heavy weights or barbells, but don't let that fool you. The slow, controlled movements fire up muscles you didn't even know you had, especially around your core, glutes and back. What makes Pilates feel different is how much it focuses on form, control and full-body engagement. You're not just powering through reps; you're staying present, moving with intention and working under tension. Honestly, some of the toughest exercises I've done have come from holding a Pilates move for just a few seconds longer. So while you might not be maxing out your deadlift, you're building a kind of strength that supports everyday movement and leaves you feeling strong from the inside out.

Taylor Swift goes country glam for surprise performance at Travis Kelce's Nashville event

She's back to her roots. On Tuesday night, Taylor Swift hit the stage for a surprise performance during boyfriend Travis Kelce's 'Tight Ends and Friends' concert at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee, rocking a chic Western-inspired getup. The singer, 35, wore a black EB Denim minidress ($495) with a corseted bodice and pleated skirt. She added flair to the look with a chunky gold belt. Swift balanced out the leg-baring piece with knee-high black leather Versace boots ($1,990 $1,393), which were embellished with the fashion house's signature gold-tone Medusa '95 hardware. Fans will remember that the superstar previously wore the same style in various washes of blue to a VMAs 2023 after party, pairing it with sparkling platform heels and a matching purse. On the accessories front, the Grammy winner stunned in Maria Tash pear-shaped diamond studs ($4,100) and a Steven Battelle Ancient coin pendant ($2,175). For the performance — during which she surprised the crowd with an acoustic performance of 'Shake It Off,' joined by scheduled guest Kane Brown — Swift pulled back her hair in a low ponytail and sported her signature red lip. 'We were up there having some drinks, and we were thinking like, 'How loud could this place get? Theoretically, how loud could the singing be in here?'' Swift told the lively audience. 'I was like, 'I don't have a guitar,' and then Chase Rice was like, 'You can use mine.' So we would like to dedicate this to our favorite players who are going to play, and these are the tight ends,' she continued, right before performing the hit song. This marked the Grammy-winning musician's first performance since buying back her masters and finishing her Eras Tour. Kelce, meanwhile, also embraced the country aesthetic, wearing a mesh floral-print top, camo trousers, a black cowboy hat and white sneakers. Last night's concert is a part of the annual Tight End University, a three-day event founded by Kelce, San Francisco 49ers player George Kittle and sportscaster Greg Olsen. The previous night, Swift helped her beau kick off the event, joining him at the party in a green gingham crop top and matching skirt by Hunter Bell, which she styled with a white Celine bag and Sandy Liang sandals. We can't wait to see how she closes out the bash.
