Carlos Correa trade: Astros bring star home in shocking deal with Twins

Yahooa day ago
In a startling reunion brought about by injuries to their infield, the Houston Astros have agreed to bring back Carlos Correa, their 2015 Rookie Of the Year, 2017 World Series champion and three-time All-Star, the Astros announced July 31.
USA TODAY Sports reported a day before the deadline that the Astros had interest in bringing Correa back from the Minnesota Twins with the team sitting in first place in the American League West but having lost third baseman Isaac Paredes and shortstop Jeremy Peña to injuries in recent weeks.
It was Peña's presence that prompted Houston to let Correa walk as a free agent in 2021, when he led the AL with 7.3 WAR and boosted the Astros to the '21 World Series. Now, Correa says he will be moving to third base for the first time in his career, with Peña set to come off the injured list this weekend.
After leaving Houston, Correa twice signed with Minnesota, the second time inking a six-year, $200 million deal after failing physicals with the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets.
Now, he's back with the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2012 - and teammates with Peña, the man who replaced him and should be back shortly from a rehab assignment.
He will come with some financial relief: The Twins are sending $33 million to the Astros to help offset the roughly $108 million left on Correa's contract through 2028. The Twins will receive left-hander Matt Mikulski, a 26-year-old still in high Class A ball.

Is Texas A&M's star running back being overlooked on the national stage?

Despite entering the 2025 season with one of the most experienced and talented rosters in the country, Texas A&M isn't nationally viewed as a contender for the College Football Playoff, mainly due to the late-season collapse that occurred after star running back Le'Veon Moss was lost for the season during the first half against South Carolina. After losing to the Gamecocks, Texas A&M finished 8-5, including the season-finale loss to rival Texas in the first matchup in more than a decade. While the offseason negativity among the fan base has slowly dissipated, the national focus on the Aggies' star-studded roster is bizarre. Still, in a world where Arch Manning is now Texas's starting quarterback, it's hard to share the spotlight. Outside of starting quarterback Marcel Reed needing to improve in the pocket, the return of Le'Veon Moss in the backfield, paired with Amari Daniels, Reuben Owens, and EJ Smith all returning, Texas A&M's running game could be the best unit in the SEC, starting, and ending with Moss staying healthy throughout the year. On Tuesday, On3 host J.D. PicKell described his confusion regarding the lack of Moss's national coverage after averaging over six yards per carry before his injury during the 2024 season, racking up 765 yards and ten touchdowns before his injury. "Le'Veon Moss is the best running back that averaged six yards per carry before he got hurt, that is getting zero love in the preseason" PicKell stated. "I think you can probably bet Tennessee to lead the conference in rushing based on how they've run the ball the last couple of years, but if you're not betting Tennessee, I might bet Texas A&M will lead the conference in rushing." PicKell went on to note that OC Collin Klein's offense is now better suited to Marcel Reed's skill set compared to last season, and how that will impact the offense in 2025. "Marcel Reed now have the offense built to his skill set, which it wasn't this time last year, built for Conner Weigman last year where they adjusted on the fly, and Collin Klein, who was a mobile quarterback back when he played, so he's calling plays similar to his skillset in Marcel Reed." Suppose Texas A&M's running game finds its footing, combined with Marcel Reed's ability to run the ball and make plays out of structure in the passing game. In that case, I expect the Aggies to be one of the top offenses in the SEC and one of the most formidable opponents to prepare for on a weekly basis. Notre Dame football fall practice No. 3 highlights shared on social media

Notre Dame football has been putting in the work early, and over the first few days of fall practice, we've seen plenty of new developments among the players. The quarterbacks haven't started off as many of us would have liked, but we have to remember, they are both very inexperienced and going up against a top-level defense every day will only make the better. The game will slow down when they play teams that aren't as good, which should be looked at as a good aspect. On Saturday, we saw plenty of the wide receivers going up against the cornerbacks, which showed up plenty about both positions. The Irish need offensive playmakers to step up at the position, and having a deep secondary will only help the team with a potential long season. Check out some of the best Notre Dame practice videos that were shared on social media. Jordan Botelho working his way back from an injury Botelho was looking like he was set to finally break out last fall, only to suffer a season-ending knee injury against Purdue and then a pectoral injury in the off-season. While the Irish have plenty of talent at the position, like more than a few others, there isn't much experience there. Having a veteran like Botelho will be a great mid-season pickup for Notre Dame. Freshman wide receiver Elijah Burress Sure, Burress wasn't facing off against one of Notre Dame's better cornerbacks in the rep, but the showed plenty on it. Creating separation at the line, using his quick first-step to get past the defender, all while keeping his balance and finishing the play shows plenty about the son of former NFL star Plaxico. The future of the position is in good hands with Burress. Freshman cornerback Cree Thomas It's a tough task for anyone going up against Malachi Fields, but Thomas held his own in the rep. You'd like to see him not holding at the top of the route, as there is potential for that to get called a penalty. However, you see how good the footwork is to stay with his assignment, and with more seasoning, should be a good one. Freshman athlete Scrap Richardson For a guy who hasn't been focusing on the position for long, Richardson sure has the look of a player who could help the Irish down the road. The speed is there, and you love to see the adjustment made to the route after the inside was taken away. That was a veteran move, that you don't see many freshman being able to make. Multiple WR vs. DB matchups Iron sharpens iron, and in this situation, the receivers going against the defensive backs is exactly that. This is one of the reasons why the wide outs have seen such a quick jump in talent, going up against elite defenders will only make them better. It will make the next level easier as well, which I think is a big factor why Fields ended up in South Bend. Ex Arsenal man sold and immediately loaned back to former club

Former Arsenal goalkeeper, Matt Turner, has completed a transfer from Nottingham Forest to Lyon, only to immediately be sent back on loan to New England Revolution until June 2026. Photo byThe United States international goalkeeper left Arsenal in August 2023 for a fee of around £7.1 million after a single season at the Emirates, where he made seven appearances, all in the Europa League and FA Cup, keeping four clean sheets and conceding four goals. The Gunners had paid around £5.15m for him. His time at Forest started promisingly but errors in high-profile fixtures against Tottenham, Manchester United and the Gunners cost him his place, and he spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, making only four cup appearances. Matt Turner with Arsenal (via At the start of August, Lyon signed him for around €8 million (£6.9 million) but immediately loaned him to the club where his professional career took off, and where he won MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021. Turner will occupy a Designated Player spot in New England, with the club holding an option to make the move permanent next summer. 'When the opportunity arose to bring Matt Turner back to the Revolution, we were glad to act swiftly to welcome one of the most talented players ever to represent the club,' Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said. 'Matt's talent and leadership will make our squad stronger now and in the future. We look forward to having Matt and his family back in New England.' Photo byHead Coach Caleb Porter added, 'I look forward to welcoming Matt back to the Revolution and I am excited for this opportunity to work with one of the best goalkeepers our league has produced. 'Matt holds himself to an extremely high standard that has led him to success at the international level, in Europe, and of course, in MLS. Matt's shot-stopping quality and overall character and mentality make him a tremendous addition to our goalkeeping corps.' 'It is a privilege to return to the club that launched my career,' Turner said. 'The club that helped me discover who I am as a professional, the club that has always felt like a home away from home. To have the chance to play in front of the Revolution supporters once again is a priceless feeling and one I've never taken for granted. Photo by'My family and I have felt their unwavering support throughout these last three years, and I can't wait to wear the Revolution crest again at Gillette Stadium. I am grateful for this opportunity to earn my place on the field and look forward to winning many more games with the Revolution.' Turner's return to the United States should give him the regular football he needs as he attempts to reclaim the national team's No 1 shirt, having been overtaken by New York City's Matt Freese for the recent CONCACAF Gold Cup. The move marks a quick turnaround for the 31-year-old, who joined Arsenal from New England in 2022, but struggled to establish himself in England, despite being a key figure for the USA at the 2022 World Cup.
