Melaka unemployment rate down to 1.8% in Q4 2024
He said the achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of the state government's policies in creating job opportunities, especially for the youth in Melaka.
'Today, Melaka is home to more than 200,000 youths. They are not just a number, they represent the future energy of the state and the country, and are among the most valuable assets that will shape Melaka's future,' he said.
'Therefore, various initiatives have been and continue to be implemented, focusing on job marketability, entrepreneurship, education, personal development, as well as social and religious values.
He said this after officiating the state-level Youth Day 2025 celebration last night, which was also attended by Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim and the state Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee chairman Datuk V.P. Shanmugam.
Ab Rauf said the state government is focused on empowering skilled youths by strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to meet industry needs and position Melaka as the national TVET centre, ensuring its youth remain competitive and preferred by employers.
He said his administration is committed to involving youth not just in programmes but from planning to policy implementation.
Confident in the strong government-youth relationship, he believes it will nurture visionary and competitive young leaders, and the state government will continue providing infrastructure, opportunities, and guidance to ensure sustainable youth development.
He said the state government established a Youth State Assembly with 33 representatives from each state constituency to provide leadership training and involve youth in grassroots policy-making.
Additionally, the state government introduced the Rumah Belia Melaka (RBM) scheme, Malaysia's first youth housing programme, offering 1,754 units to help young people own their first home.

AI, VR, AR to play bigger role in polytechnic, community college teaching
SHAH ALAM: Polytechnics and community colleges (POLYCC) under the Higher Education Ministry have been urged to step up the use of digital technology in teaching and learning to strengthen the country's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. Anesee earlier launched the closing of the two-day fair at Setia City Mall, which featured digital innovations including AI, AR, VR, flight simulators, robotics and e-sports. The event also saw the launch of ILHAM\@CeLT (Innovative Learning Hub for Advancing Method) by Politeknik METrO Kuala Lumpur, aimed at developing future-focused digital teaching materials. In addition, the fair hosted Malaysia's first POLYCC–AWS League of Large Language Model (LLM) Bootcamp, organised by Amazon Web Services (AWS), making POLYCC the first agency in the country to hold the programme. Ministry holds engagement sessions with cooperatives on prospective new Act
MELAKA: The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry is holding engagement sessions with cooperatives in an effort to draft a new replacement for the Cooperatives Act 1993. Its minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said it was part of the effort to improve the existing Act in line with the current global situation and challenges. "First, (the new Act) is for us to liberalise the cooperatives movement itself, and second, for us to empower the Cooperatives Commission of Malaysia (CCM) as a supervisory body for cooperatives. "We know the situation now demands cooperatives to adapt to change and it all requires legal controls that we need to improve, so our objectives are to improve the Cooperatives Act accordingly," he told reporters after the close of the 2025 National Cooperatives Day officiated by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh here today. He said the engagement sessions had started since last year and he had been to several states to get views about cooperatives from various parties. "Next week, I will go to Sarawak to meet cooperative industry players to listen to their feedback and views," he said, adding that he had held previous sessions in other areas, including Penang and Sabah and that the new act could be tabled in parliament at the end of the year.

In a statement from his office, Awang Tengah said the event brought together government officials, industry players and stakeholders from both Sarawak and Indonesia to explore cross-border collaboration in key sectors. He said the fair symbolised Sarawak's commitment to strengthening economic connectivity and sustainable development across Borneo, while supporting Indonesia's vision for Nusantara as its new capital city.
