Pop a cork! Bangkok sweeps gold in the Star Wine List of the Year Asia 2025

Time Out13-05-2025
There's more to Bangkok than street food and skyscrapers – the capital's also making major moves in the world of wine. The Big Mango claimed six out of 12 Gold Stars in the Star Wine List of the Year Asia 2025, cementing its status as a rising star in Asia's wine scene.
The awards, released annually, celebrate the best wine lists and the talent behind them across Greater China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. With categories covering everything from list length and by-the-glass offerings to sparkling wines, regional focuses, sustainability and rising stars, the competition highlights all dimensions of wine curation.
Judging is handled by an independent panel of internationally acclaimed sommeliers. For the 2025 edition, the panel included Salvatore Castano, ASI's Best Sommelier of Europe and Africa 2021, and Reeze Choi, ASI's Third Best Sommelier of the World 2023, who engaged in rigorous discussions to determine the winners across 11 categories.
This year, the capital takes home six of the 12 Gold Stars – the highest recognition in each category. Inddee leads the pack with three wins: Best By the Glass List, Best Medium-Sized List and the prestigious Grand Prix. Other standout winners include Haoma, recognised for Best Short List and Sustainable Wine List and Sühring, which claimed Best Austrian Wine List.
But the excitement doesn't end there – Gold Star winners automatically qualify for the Star Wine List of the Year International Final, set to take place in Vienna this June. So keep an eye on the announcement as we might see Bangkok shine even brighter on the global stage.

Formula 1 winners at Silverstone presented with trophies made out of LEGO

The LEGO Group presented the top three drivers and the winning constructor of the FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX 2025 at Silverstone with the first-ever Formula 1 trophies made entirely of LEGO elements. Created to celebrate F1's 75th anniversary at the site of the sport's very first Formula 1 World Championship in 1950 at Silverstone, the builds were inspired by the design of the current RAC (Royal Automobile Club) golden British Grand Prix trophy that is presented to the winner of the iconic Grand Prix. The creation of the trophies is part of the multi-year partnership between the LEGO Group and Formula 1. The winner received a gold-adorned LEGO Trophy, comprised of 2,717 LEGO elements, weighing over 2kg. The 2 nd and 3 rd place podium sitters received white LEGO trophies with red and blue detailing respectively, while the constructor's winner received a dark blue and gold coloured brick-built trophy. Julia Goldin, Chief Product & Marketing Officer at the LEGO Group, said: 'At this year's British Grand Prix, we wanted to do something truly unique to celebrate a major anniversary, as well as surprise and delight builders around the world. The legacy of Silverstone is incredible, and we hope fans are inspired by these unique trophy builds that demonstrate how starting with just one LEGO elements, there are limitless possibilities to what you can create.' Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer of Formula 1, said: 'Our partnership with the LEGO Group has already turned heads with the big build LEGO cars in Miami, and our next collaboration will see us mark Formula 1's 75th anniversary at the venue of the first race in 1950 with these exquisitely built trophies. It's been fantastic to work with the LEGO Group on developing really creative and engaging moments to drive interest and curiosity in both our existing and new fans and to inject some additional fun into such a celebratory moment as the trophy presentation.' Stuart Pringle, Chief Executive Officer, Silverstone said "What a moment to celebrate. The retail store currently has about two million members in the UK. We've broken down all the Costco membership rules, so you can see if you qualify for membership and how much it will cost you. What is Gold Star membership? Costco's Gold Star membership is for individuals who wish to shop at the retailer, either in stores or on its website. The cost of an annual Gold Star membership rose by £7 earlier this year from £28 to £35, marking the first hike in over eight years. Including VAT, the membership now costs £42. Furious customers even threatened to cancel their membership after learning of the price hikes, which Costco said were introduced to "keep pace with rising costs." However, even if you're willing to pay, not everyone is eligible to become a member. Only current or retired employees of certain professions qualify for the membership, and they must be over 18. To become a Gold Star member, you'll need to be working in, or have worked in, one of these professions: Banking / Finance Local Government Fire / Rescue Service Post Office Airlines Education Police Force Civil Service / Armed Forces Medical / Health Service Insurance Iconic 80s retro sweet RETURNS to UK supermarket shelves after a decade You can also join if you've qualified as one of the following: Qualified / Certified / Chartered Accountant Chartered Architect Doctors (MD) / Dentist / Optician / Pharmacist Chartered Surveyor Solicitor / Barrister / Magistrate / Advocate Chartered Engineer / Civil etc Some private companies also have arrangements with Costco which allow their employees to become members. You can use the search tool on Costco's website to find out if your company is on the list. If you fit one of the criteria and would like to join, you'll need to provide either an employee ID card, a payslip or pension statement, or a qualification statement, which must be dated within the last three months. You'll also need to provide photo ID. When you join as a Gold Star member, you'll get two membership cards - one for you and another for your spouse or partner. The fee for adding an additional Gold Star cardholder to your membership is now £20, after the retailer increased it from £14 in the spring. Gold Star members are able shop at any of Costco's 29 wholesale stores across the UK, as well as its 19 petrol stations. What if you don't qualify for Gold Star membership? While you won't be able to shop at Costco in person without a Gold Star membership, you can still shop online. The retailer offers an Online-only membership, which is open to anyone for an annual fee of £42. Online members will be able to shop on the Costco website and book with the company's travel agency, Costco Travel. However, you won't have access to Costco stores or petrol stations. What is Executive Gold Membership? A more expensive membership option is also open to shoppers who qualify for Gold Star. Executive Gold Star membership costs £70, or around £84 including VAT. Members can earn a 2% reward on most of their purchases every time they shop, and they also get access to exclusive coupons and Costco events. Costco claims that its Executive membership "could pay for itself" thanks to its rewards, which are capped at £500 for individual members. Another perk is longer opening hours, with doors opening to executive members around an hour earlier during the week than for regular Gold Star members. HOW MUCH IS COSTCO MEMBERSHIP?
