‘Page not found': Brooke Shields podcast interview slamming ‘precious' Meghan Markle mysteriously vanishes

Sky News AU11-06-2025
Brooke Shields' recent podcast interview in which she vented about Meghan Markle's 'precious' behavior has been deleted by podcast host India Hicks, it can be revealed.
Shields went viral last week after revealing her candid thoughts about the ex-working royal during an episode of Hicks' podcast 'An Unexpected Journey' that was published via Substack.
In the now-deleted episode, Shields recalled the time she cut off one of Markle's favourite anecdotes while appearing on stage with the Duchess.
The Duchess of Sussex and the Blue Lagoon star were both tapped to sit on a panel marking International Woman's Day at the prestigious South by Southwest Festival last year.
During the notorious appearance, Markle referenced the time she wrote a letter to Procter and Gamble as a child asking them to gender-neutralise a dishwashing soap commercial.
The story has been repeated multiple times, including during Meghan Markle's Vanity Fair cover story she negotiated after she began dating Prince Harry.
'Meghan said, 'I didn't think only women wash dishes,'' Shields recalled.
'It wasn't fair. So I wrote to the company. And when I was 11, I wrote my first letter and when I was 11...' and she kept saying she was 11!"
The entertainment industry veteran sensed that Markle's oft-repeated story about writing letters to a detergent company was hardly riveting for the audience.
"It was just too precious," Shields explained to as to why she decided to chime in.
"And I was like, they're not going to want to sit here for 45 minutes and listen to anybody be precious or serious.'
The Endless Love star explained that she did not intend to be 'rude' to the ex-working royal but wanted to lighten the mood after Markle's earnest story.
"Excuse me, I'm so sorry. I've got to interrupt you there for one minute,' she said.
"I was trying not to be rude, but I wanted to be funny because it was so serious.
"I just want to give everybody here a context as to how we're different," she told the crowd.'
The actress then pointed out to Markle how when she was the same age she was playing a prostitute - referring to her controversial role in the 1978 film, Pretty Baby - which drew immediate laughter from the audience.
"The place went insane. And then luckily, it was more relaxed after that," Shields said.
As of Wednesday, all traces of the podcast have disappeared from Hicks' Substack page, with the previous link now returning a 'page not found' message.
The Sussexes employ an extensive team of in-house media advisors who regularly reach out to news outlets and mastheads to respond to publicity about the Duke and Duchess.
Among the team, Harry and Meghan employ both Los Angeles and London-based communications executives to handle their media relations in North America and Europe, respectively.
The Sussexes recently hired a chief communications officer and a separate director of communications to help manage their public images.
Last month, Forbes reported that the Sussexes have beefed up their media team even further and added external firm Method Communications to the line up.
SkyNews.com.au is not suggesting that Markle or her team pressured Hicks or Shields to remove the podcast episode, only that the episode has been removed from Hicks' Substack.

‘Not a long-term strategy': Meghan Markle's As Ever company slammed by industry experts in scathing review

The jaw-dropping extent of Meghan Markle's business woes have been laid bare after an industry expert gave a withering verdict of the ex-working royal's fledging lifestyle brand. The Duchess of Sussex has spent the last two years working on a lifestyle brand and has earmarked plans to sell a range of products include homewares, cooking utensils, make-up and even pet food. Markle originally called the venture American Riviera Orchard and soft launched a line of strawberry jams before scrapping the ARO moniker and re-launching as 'As Ever' in February. The former working royal has since sold limited runs of a variety of conserves as well as a line of wines through the As Ever website. Industry insider Phillip Millar and Californian marketing executive Camille Moore, who have advised top brands such as Dior and Mercedes-Benz, recently examined Markle's business acumen to date. 'I feel like she's doing such a brutal or good job, depending on how you're looking at it, of getting this like free PR and then absolutely s****** the bed,' Ms Moore said while speaking on The Art of the Brand podcast. Mr Millar agreed, suggesting As Ever was merely a way of 'maximising the value from her fame that came from Suits and being a part of the Royal Family'. "They're just milking that for everything they can,' he said. 'You can make short-term money from it, but it's not a long-term strategy.' The experts also took aim at Markle's boasts about 'selling out' her jams and wines on her website without disclosing how many units she produced. 'Confectionery scarcity doesn't matter,' Mr Millar said. The harsh feedback comes after Markle reportedly drew the ire of Buckingham Palace after posting a note reading "With the Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex" to promote her brand on social media. The move appeared to directly contravene the Sussexes' commitment not to use the HRH in commercial or public settings after stepping back as working royals in 2020.

Truth behind new Harry and Meghan speculation after ‘peace summit'

IN LONDON Speculation that Prince Harry and Meghan could move back to the UK in some capacity following a recent 'royal peace summit' have been firmly denied. Earlier this month, the Duke of Sussex's chief of staff and communications director, Meredith Maines, his UK spokesperson, and the King's communications secretary, Tobyn Andrae, held a private meeting in London, reportedly to discuss the rift between the two parties. Tensions had first escalated when Harry and Meghan moved in 2020 to the US, where they are now based, and began to open up about the issues they'd faced during their time as working within the monarchy. Having now taken that first concrete step toward reconciliation, rumours have been rife that the Sussexes are eyeing off some form of return to Harry's home country – but a source told People that they have no intention of leaving Montecito. Instead, the recent chat has been viewed as a potential reopening of the lines of communication between the duke and the King, who have been estranged in recent years. 'It was a good first step,' the insider said. 'It is always better to be talking.' Harry and Meghan have made no secret of the fact they're very happy in the US, gushing over their new lifestyle in their Netflix series, Harry and Meghan, and also in several interviews over the years. In their explosive 2021 chat with Oprah Winfrey, Harry described how much he loved that they now had 'outdoor space where I can go for walks with Archie, and we go for walks as a family and with the dogs. You know, we go on hikes or go down to the beach, which is so close.' However, after losing a court battle in the UK over his security status in May, Harry said while he didn't feel safe bringing his family to his home country, there were aspects of his old life that he missed. 'I can't see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point,' he told the BBC. 'I miss the UK, I miss parts of the UK, of course I do. I think that it's really quite sad that I won't be able to show my children my homeland.' Meanwhile, in the initial story about the peace summit published last week, a source told the Mail on Sunday: 'There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.'

Meghan Markle ‘bitter' over Royal Family positive press

'To Di For' podcast host Kinsey Schofield slams Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as 'short-sighted' amid reports of King Charles and the Sussexes' top aides holding a secret summit. 'I think that they are so short-sighted… they're always in it for the instant gratification,' Ms Schofield told Sky News host Rita Panahi. 'I suspected that Meghan was very bitter over some positive press and that was why we saw a mini Sussex blitz.'
