‘Page not found': Brooke Shields podcast interview slamming ‘precious' Meghan Markle mysteriously vanishes

Sky News AU11-06-2025
Brooke Shields' recent podcast interview in which she vented about Meghan Markle's 'precious' behavior has been deleted by podcast host India Hicks, it can be revealed.
Shields went viral last week after revealing her candid thoughts about the ex-working royal during an episode of Hicks' podcast 'An Unexpected Journey' that was published via Substack.
In the now-deleted episode, Shields recalled the time she cut off one of Markle's favourite anecdotes while appearing on stage with the Duchess.
The Duchess of Sussex and the Blue Lagoon star were both tapped to sit on a panel marking International Woman's Day at the prestigious South by Southwest Festival last year.
During the notorious appearance, Markle referenced the time she wrote a letter to Procter and Gamble as a child asking them to gender-neutralise a dishwashing soap commercial.
The story has been repeated multiple times, including during Meghan Markle's Vanity Fair cover story she negotiated after she began dating Prince Harry.
'Meghan said, 'I didn't think only women wash dishes,'' Shields recalled.
'It wasn't fair. So I wrote to the company. And when I was 11, I wrote my first letter and when I was 11...' and she kept saying she was 11!"
The entertainment industry veteran sensed that Markle's oft-repeated story about writing letters to a detergent company was hardly riveting for the audience.
"It was just too precious," Shields explained to as to why she decided to chime in.
"And I was like, they're not going to want to sit here for 45 minutes and listen to anybody be precious or serious.'
The Endless Love star explained that she did not intend to be 'rude' to the ex-working royal but wanted to lighten the mood after Markle's earnest story.
"Excuse me, I'm so sorry. I've got to interrupt you there for one minute,' she said.
"I was trying not to be rude, but I wanted to be funny because it was so serious.
"I just want to give everybody here a context as to how we're different," she told the crowd.'
The actress then pointed out to Markle how when she was the same age she was playing a prostitute - referring to her controversial role in the 1978 film, Pretty Baby - which drew immediate laughter from the audience.
"The place went insane. And then luckily, it was more relaxed after that," Shields said.
As of Wednesday, all traces of the podcast have disappeared from Hicks' Substack page, with the previous link now returning a 'page not found' message.
The Sussexes employ an extensive team of in-house media advisors who regularly reach out to news outlets and mastheads to respond to publicity about the Duke and Duchess.
Among the team, Harry and Meghan employ both Los Angeles and London-based communications executives to handle their media relations in North America and Europe, respectively.
The Sussexes recently hired a chief communications officer and a separate director of communications to help manage their public images.
Last month, Forbes reported that the Sussexes have beefed up their media team even further and added external firm Method Communications to the line up.
SkyNews.com.au is not suggesting that Markle or her team pressured Hicks or Shields to remove the podcast episode, only that the episode has been removed from Hicks' Substack.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle held 'peace talks' with King Charles aide for 'handouts' after dead Netflix deal

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle held "peace talks" with King Charles' aide because the couple are seeking "handouts', a source has claimed. Harry's chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, and UK-based PR representative Liam Maguire were photographed earlier this month with the King's top aide, Communications Secretary Tobyn Andreae, at the Royal Over-Seas League, just around the corner from Clarence House. The Duke of Sussex, 40, gave his "blessing" for the summit between aides, marking a major development in the royal family estrangement. Journalist and author Robert Jobson spoke to The Sun's latest Royal Exclusive show on Wednesday after Netflix scrapped the Sussexes' $100 million deal, saying the cancelled contract spurred the meeting to occur. 'Well, the deal was always set about $100 million, wasn't it?" he said. 'And the talk of that figure sort of blew a lot of people's minds, but I think that was for productions and things that they're supposed to have done. 'Where does it leave them? Probably with a bit of a bowl out, looking for some handouts.' Mr Jobson said he thought "maybe that's why" Harry and Meghan's aides were over in the UK having discussions with the King's representatives. He said in reality, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex received support from the King and the late Queen Elizabeth II before leaving the firm in 2020. However, going their own way ultimately led to them losing their multi-million-dollar Spotify contract in 2023, and now their income with Netflix. 'They can't rely on the Spare money forever, can they?' Mr Jobson said in apparent reference to proceeds from Harry's 2023 memoir. Netflix decided not to renew the Sussexes' lucrative deal when it expires in September following a series of flops, The Sun reported on Tuesday. According to the publication, the streamer's executives quietly agreed to part ways with the renegade royals. An official announcement from Netflix and the Sussexes about the details of the partnership demise was reportedly canned. It comes after new figures released by Netflix found the Duchess's new cooking show With Love Meghan failed to break into the top 300 shows. Meanwhile, just 500,000 people watched Harry's Polo project, which one reviewer described as an "unintentionally hilarious profile of the world's stupidest sport". It's understood Netflix bosses were meanwhile irritated Meghan prioritised her As Ever brand, which she launched in February. Then the streaming giant last month signed the dotted line with King Charles and English actor Idris Elba for a documentary exploring the impact of the King's Trust, in celebration of the charity's 50th anniversary. Retaining any deal with the Sussex could have reportedly hindered the currently untitled project, set to launch on Netflix in Autumn 2026. Nevertheless, a source told The Sun rival streamer Paramount+ was open to working with the couple, who could be on board for the right project.

‘Unemployed': Nicole Kidman's nepo niece Lucia Hawley reveals she's struggling to find work after leaving Australia for the UK

Nicole Kidman's niece has revealed she is struggling to find work months after she left her plum role with the Seven Network. Lucia Hawley, who previously did hosting duties for digital channel 7Bravo, quit the network last year amid social media accusations that she was a nepo baby. In her Substack, Hawley detailed how she was getting on with her new life in the UK. 'On June 18, I officially made the move to London. On paper, this is a totally stupid decision, and honestly, frightens me (someone hire me pls),' the TV star wrote. 'I am risk-averse, which means my body quite literally rejects the idea of both moving overseas and being unemployed.' As to why she leftAustralia in the first place, Hawley admitted: "The first six months of the year were difficult for me career-wise. I lacked direction and faced numerous rejections in the pursuit of something better. This period was pretty taxing on my confidence, and I eventually began to feel like there was just simply not much left for me in Sydney (at least for now)." Speaking about her current employment prospects, she wrote, "I have moved to a new country and am staring down the barrel of what could be another very gruelling job hunt—ultimately, facing even more uncertainty than I was before." Hawley also admitted she struggled to part ways with her siblings and her boyfriend Henry, who are still in Australia. 'Saying goodbye to Henry was incredibly difficult (I am traumatized by airport goodbyes). Even harder were the goodbyes to my family — I kissed my little brothers through floods of tears,' she wrote. Ms Hawley served as social media host for Free to Air TV network 7Bravo, a joint operation between the Seven Network and Bravo TV in the United States. Following her departure, the show announced in December that former Bachelor star Bella Varelis would take over the reins. Hawley is the daughter of Nicole Kidman's sister Antonia, 54. The TV host boasts a close friendship with the Oscar winner, as she recently returned from a lavish vacation in Croatia with her mother and the Babygirl star.

‘Leave Meghan at home': Prince Harry's secret negotiations ahead of rumoured reconciliation at Invictus Games

Prince Harry has reportedly begun 'negotiations' with the royal family ahead of a possible joint public appearance at the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Last week, a spokesperson for Invictus appeared to hint that Harry was 'hoping' King Charles, Prince William and other royal family members will attend the 2027 games. Harry helped set up Invictus in 2014 as an Olympics-style international sporting event for injured and wounded servicemen and women across the globe. The first ever winter edition of the Invictus Games took place in Whistler and Vancouver in February this year and featured athletes from 23 different countries. The next edition of the Invictus Games is set to take place in 2027 and will mark the event's return to Harry's native United Kingdom for the first time since the inaugural London games. According to a source close to the Sussexes who spoke to Woman's Day, the Duke of Sussex now 'accepts' his family will never truly embrace his wife. '(Harry) reluctantly accepts his family hate her so there's no sense involving her in peace talks because they'd turn him down flat if he were to try,' the source said. 'So Harry's new tactic is to do this solo. He's willing to fly to the UK, set up mediation meetings, whatever they'll agree to.' According to the insider, Harry is prepared to meet with his father and brother without Markle if the royal family agrees to attend the Invictus Games. 'He's tried before, but the royals baulked because he insisted on bringing Meghan,' the source said. 'Now he's even offered to leave her at home for the Invictus Games if the royals agree to attend.' While the royal family has supported Harry's signature organisation since its inception, no senior royals have appeared at any Invictus event since the Sussexes left royal duties five years ago. The entire monarchy also noticeably snubbed a major service in London to celebrate a decade of Invictus at St Paul's Cathedral last year. Instead, Harry was supported at the event by his uncle Earl Spencer and his aunt Lady Jane Fellowes from Princess Diana's side of the family. Meanwhile, Harry's wife Meghan Markle still allegedly refuses to return to the UK without an apology from the monarchy for perceived mistreatment. The comments come after fresh speculation the rift between Harry and King Charles is finally starting to thaw. A fortnight ago, Harry's new chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, and UK-based PR rep Liam Maguire were photographed meeting with the King's top aide, Communications Secretary Tobyn Andreae, near Clarence House. The meeting, first revealed by The Mail on Sunday, reportedly had "no formal agenda" but there were "things both sides wanted to talk about".
