‘Maybe he isn't as gone as we thought he was': The Black Phone writer teases The Grabber's return
The original 2021 horror movie sees the sinister kidnapper (Ethan Hawke) meets a grizzy end at the hands of his victim Finnley Shaw (Mason Thames), though Hill - who wrote the 2004 short story of the same name that The Black Phone is based on - has now teased the threat of the The Grabber still lurks by the events of The Black Phone 2.
Speaking with Screen Rant about The Black Phone 2, Hill said: 'I don't think I could say too much about that, but I have seen the theories. I would just point out The Grabber is dead, but being dead hasn't stopped people from reaching out to Finney before.
'So, maybe he isn't as gone as we thought he was.'
The writer added he was 'excited' to see what audiences think of where director Scott Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill take the story next, and teased they had snuck in a 'trap door' into the first movie that would lead directly into The Black Phone 2.
He said: 'I'm excited to see what people make of the picture. Originally, Scott and Cargill weren't sure there was a sequel there, but there were two things the first time I saw the film.
'Even before I saw the film, when I saw the mask, I thought, 'Oh, there's gonna be a bunch of these pictures, because that's iconic in the way of Freddy Krueger's glove and Michael Myers' mask, and the hockey mask, and stuff. I think we're going to have a bunch of The Grabber.'
'And then, when I saw the film, there's a thing in the first picture, just a brief thing, and when I saw that, I thought, 'Oh, that's a trap door into the second film. They stuck something.'
'And I was like, 'I don't even know if they know that they just stuck this thing in the movie that's the obvious door to fling open to go into the second picture.''
Hill teased he had pitched this 'trap door' idea for The Black Phone 2, which Derrickson and Cargill thought was 'really cool'.
He continued: 'So, I pitched this idea to them, and they both thought it was really cool. And then, Scott brought in some more stuff.
'The first film, in some ways, is very autobiographical. It's about growing up dirty and in the 1970s in Denver, and he brought some more stuff in there.
'And then Cargill is just a masterful engineer in terms of figuring out how to engineer a suspenseful sequence, and put his characters in peril. So, they wound up with a great script, and I'm excited for the film to come out.'
The Black Phone follows Finney Shaw (Thames), who is kidnapped by The Grabber (Hawke) and thrown into a soundproof basement.
After a disconnected phone starts to ring, the terrified boy discovers he can hear the voices of The Grabber's previous victims, who are determined to help him escape the killer with his life.
The sequel, The Black Phone 2, is slated to hit cinemas in October 2025.

Alison Brie addresses serious rumours for Masters of the Universe
Alison Brie has hinted Masters of the Universe will not be serious. Recent rumours suggested the upcoming action movie would be trading its light-hearted and campy style for a more dour tone, but Brie - who portrays Evil-Lyn in the film - has emphasised people don't know 'as much as they think they know' about Masters of the Universe. When Collider asked the 42-year-old actress whether the flick would be more serious, she said: 'I don't think they know as much as they think they know. That's all I'm gonna say.' Masters of the Universe - which is based on Mattel's iconic toy line and the 1983 animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. Reflecting on the movie, Brie teased Masters of the Universe would appeal to both 'the nostalgic audience that loved He-Man when they were kids' and a 'new generation of He-Man fans'. She told Screen Rant: 'I did Masters of the Universe, and I really feel like I shouldn't say too much about that either. 'But I do think that is really fun, and I think it's going to serve both the nostalgic audience that loved He-Man when they were kids and a new generation of He-Man fans.' Masters of the Universe - which is being helmed by Bumblebee director Travis Knight and is slated to land in cinemas on June 6, 2026 - follows a young man on Earth who learns he is the prince of a distant planet and must reclaim a magical sword. With its power, he returns home to defend his kingdom from dark forces. The film's cast also includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Goat Man, James Purefoy as King Randor and Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena. In January, Brie teased she had been 'getting yoked' with Björnsson - who played The Mountain in Game of Thrones - to prepare for Masters of the Universe. The Together star said: 'Filming is about to start. Everyone's in pre-production now. I was just out in London lifting some weights with Júlíus Björnsson.' Brie isn't the only Masters of the Universe star who had been training hard for the movie, as Galitzine also revealed he was 'eating around 4,000 calories a day' and had been doing a lot of weightlifting to get into shape for the film. The 30-year-old actor told W magazine: 'No pressure, I just have to embody the strongest man in the universe. 'There's been a lot of eating and weightlifting, a lot of stunts. I'm eating about 4,000 calories a day, but the amount of physical work I'm doing, you end up hungry at the end of the day, which is quite surprising. This is the fun part.' Even so, The Idea of You star admitted he was dreading 'the cutting phase' as he will be 'starved and so rude to everyone'. He said: 'I will eventually go into what's called the cutting phase, where I'm going to be starved and so rude to everyone. 'I can only apologize for the person I'm going to become in a few months' time.'

‘She's broken in many ways': Elle Fanning teases her Predator: Badlands character
Elle Fanning has teased her character Thia will be the Predator Dek's 'little companion' in Predator: Badlands. The 27-year-old actress portrays the synthetic - a biomechanical humanoid - opposite Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi's Yautja hunter Dek in the upcoming action movie, and Fanning has now given fans some clues as to what to expect out of her character in Predator: Badlands. Speaking with Screen Rant, Fanning said of Dek: 'He's speaking another language, and Thia is there to guide him in a lot of ways, and to be his buddy. 'But I think she's also wanting respect, as well. I think Dek wants respect in the film from other things you'll figure out, and Thia also wants her respect also from Dek, in some ways. 'So, she is his little companion, his little buddy, and I love she has a different personality than any other synthetic we've seen before in any of the films.' The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping star added it was 'nice' to collaborate with director Dan Trachtenberg in fleshing out Thia, and teased the 'friendship' that develops between her character and Dek. She continued: 'It was nice to work with Dan to kind of mould that personality, and almost more of a positive attitude. 'But I love the friendship between the two, because as you see, Thia is broken in many ways, and Dek is kind of the runt of his clan. So, it's a little bit of these two misfits coming together.' Predator: Badlands follows the young hunter Dek (Schuster-Koloamatangi) after he has been outcast from his clan and sent to a remote planet where he forms an unlikely alliance with Thia (Fanning) as the pair search for the ultimate adversary. Trachtenberg previously said Dek - who will be the first Yautja protagonist in a Predator movie instead of the antagonist - was inspired by action icons like Mad Max and Conan the Barbarian. The filmmaker told Empire magazine: 'He's a thing of few words, pretty blunt. He cuts straight to the point. Literally and figuratively.' Trachtenberg added Dek was viewed as the 'runt of the litter' among his clan, and the director wanted audiences to root for the character. He explained: 'That feels like a big idea, not just within Predator, but in sci-fi generally. 'In most sci-fi universes, the 'creatures' are either bad guys or sidekicks. In [Predator: Badlands] it's, 'What if you were with the creature on this crazy mission to prove itself, seeing everything through its eyes?'' Trachtenberg had also teased he has taken a 'big, crazy swing' with Predator: Badlands - which will land in cinemas on November 7, 2025. The moviemaker told Bloody Disgusting: 'It's a big, crazy swing, and I think that's what drives butts into seats. 'If you want the same old Predator experience, you can hit play on Predator or Prey or any other, whichever one is your fit.'

‘Definitely more magic': Now You See Me star Dave Franco teases the franchise's future
Dave Franco hopes to 'make many more' Now You See Me movies. The 40-year-old actor is set to reprise his role as street magician Jack Wilder in the upcoming threequel Now You See Me: Now You Don't, and with a fourth film also on the way, Franco has shared he hopes the series will continue after the next flick. Speaking with Screen Rant, he said: 'Now You See Me 3, coming out in November -- the gang is back, definitely more magic. 'I'm learning new ways to throw cards. I have the greatest time with that cast. I think our natural love for each other bleeds onto the screen, and I hope to make many more with them.' As well as Franco, Now You See Me: Now You Don't - which hits screens on November 14, 2025 - will see the return of his other Four Horsemen co-stars: J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson) and Henley Reeves (Isla Fisher). Now You See Me: Now You Don't will also see Mark Ruffalo and Morgan Freeman reprise their roles as Dylan Rhodes and Thaddeus Bradley, respectively, while newcomers Ariana Greenblatt, Justice Smith, and Dominic Sessa join the cast as the next generation of magicians. Previously, Franco teased Now You See Me: Now You Don't would be 'everything you want', and said Rosamund Pike's villain was a particular standout. He told Collider: 'We got some new fun characters - we got an incredible villain with Rosamund Pike, who's just an absolute pro. It's everything you want.' Reflecting on his Four Horsemen co-stars - who he has appeared alongside since the first Now You See Me in 2013 - Franco said the 'natural camaraderie' they share 'bleeds through onto the screen'. The Together actor said: 'I've known this cast for nearly 15 years now, and we all genuinely love each other. There's no set that I laugh on more. 'I just adore these people, and I think the natural camaraderie that we have kind of bleeds through onto the screen, and people can feel how much fun we're having.' In Now You See Me: Now You Don't – directed by Ruben Fleischer – The Four Horsemen appear to have gone their separate ways at the start of the film. In the first trailer, Eisenberg's J. Daniel Atlas tells a new generation of illusionists that his former team is 'dead.' He then clarifies: 'To me. Things got too real for them. They gave up stuff.' The plot centres on a daring diamond heist that unites both the original Horsemen and new characters, played by Greenblatt, Smith, and Sessa, as they face off against a powerful criminal organisation. The movie's title, Now You See Me: Now You Don't, was revealed during CinemaCon in April, where Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson also announced that Fleischer is set to return for a fourth instalment in the franchise. Fogelson said: 'We were so happy with the director's cut, we're already developing the next chapter. 'We can't wait for audiences to discover what he's done with the third film and thrilled he'll be making even more magic with us.'
