Blackstone to Invest More Than $25 Billion in Pennsylvania's Digital and Energy Infrastructure, Plus Catalyze an Additional $60 Billion Investment

Business Wire15-07-2025
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Blackstone (NYSE: BX) announced today that funds managed by Blackstone Infrastructure and Blackstone Real Estate ('Blackstone') will invest over $25 billion to support the build out of Pennsylvania's digital and energy infrastructure and help catalyze an additional $60 billion investment into the Commonwealth. This initiative builds on Blackstone's track record as the leading investor in data centers and power infrastructure.
Commenting on the announcement, Jon Gray, Blackstone's President and Chief Operating Officer, said: 'We're thrilled to be investing behind two of our highest conviction themes – digital infrastructure and energy – in a part of the country that is ideally situated to support and expand America's leading position in the AI revolution. We look forward to working with our partners in government, local communities, and with the people of Pennsylvania to meaningfully invest in the growth of the commonwealth's digital and energy infrastructure.'
Sean Klimczak, Blackstone's Global Head of Infrastructure, said: 'Pennsylvania is transforming into a strategic hub for AI innovation, and we're excited to work with our partners at PPL to invest in the generation needed to support this critical digital infrastructure.'
Nadeem Meghji, Blackstone's Global Co-Head of Real Estate, said: 'This announcement is reflective of Blackstone's track record of partnering with governments, local communities and customers to create win-win-win outcomes. As the leading global investor in data centers, we are excited to help advance the nation's digital infrastructure goals.'
Investment Highlights
Ready to move. Blackstone-backed QTS, the largest independent data center operator in the world, has secured multiple land sites throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania to develop and operate Pennsylvania data center sites and intends to issue a Request for Information to invite other communities to participate in the build out of additional data centers.
Strong local partner. Blackstone has also formed a joint venture with PPL, a leading utility headquartered in Allentown, PA, with plans for the joint venture to invest in new natural gas power generation facilities in Pennsylvania to provide electricity for America's AI and reindustrialized future.
Creating local jobs. Over 6,000 jobs will be created or supported annually over an estimated 10-year construction timeline and over 3,000 permanent jobs will be created or supported during operations by QTS and its customers. Blackstone has a long-standing relationship with labor and plans to continue that partnership in Pennsylvania.
Abundant low-cost energy. Pennsylvania is uniquely suited to serve as a strategic hub to power the nation's AI objectives given its abundant low-cost energy that accounts for 20% of the nation's natural gas production.
PA Fast Track. QTS will work with local, county and commonwealth officials to utilize Pennsylvania's new project management systems (Fast Track) to ensure that all permitting requirements are accomplished at the speed required to meet national priorities in the development and use of AI.
Community Partnership. Blackstone aims to invest in alignment with state and community goals, which in Pennsylvania support the build-out of energy and digital infrastructure. Blackstone and QTS intend to engage in a wide range of volunteer opportunities, and community outreach and partnerships across Pennsylvania.
Tag Greason, Co-CEO of QTS, said: 'Pennsylvania is well positioned for data center growth and has become a market where we're seeing substantial demand from hyperscalers and other customers for high-quality digital infrastructure. We look forward to engaging with communities and leaders across the Commonwealth to position our leading data center platform to support the digital infrastructure needs of Pennsylvania businesses and families.'
Construction is expected to commence by year-end 2028 subject to permitting and utility approvals.

Chipotle Earnings: Another Rough Quarter

Key Points Chipotle missed revenue expectations as comparable-restaurant sales fell 4% in the second quarter. The company lowered its outlook for the full year, although management does expect some improvement in the second half. Investors punished the stock in after-hours trading after the second disappointing quarter in a row. 10 stocks we like better than Chipotle Mexican Grill › Here's our initial take on Chipotle's (NYSE: CMG) financial report. Key Metrics Metric Q2 2024 Q2 2025 Change vs. Expectations Revenue $2.97 billion $3.06 billion 3% Missed Earnings per share (adjusted) $0.34 $0.33 (2.9%) Met Comparable restaurant sales 11.1% (4%) (15.1) pp n/a Operating margin 19.7% 18.2% (1.5) pp n/a Fewer People Are Going to Chipotle Chipotle managed to eke out 3% revenue growth in the second quarter, below analyst expectations, only because it opened 61 new company-owned restaurants. Comparable-restaurant sales dropped 4%, compared to 11% growth in the same period last year, driven by a 4.9% decline in transactions. Profitability also suffered. Adjusted earnings per share was down slightly, while operating margin contracted by 1.5 percentage points to 18.2%. The negative impacts of lower sales volumes and cost inflation for some ingredients were partially offset by menu price increases. Chipotle CEO Scott Boatwright pointed to momentum from the company's summer marketing initiatives, which could start to improve results. For the full year, Chipotle expects comparable restaurant sales to be roughly flat, which implies a meaningful improvement in the second half. Immediate Market Reaction Shares of Chipotle plunged 11% in after-hours trading Wednesday, with investors reacting negatively to the company's revenue miss. While the company's outlook called for some improvement in the second half of the year, investors may not be buying the story. Going into the second-quarter report, Chipotle stock was down about 12% year to date. What to Watch This is the second quarter in a row Chipotle missed expectations and also the second quarter in a row the company dialed back its full-year outlook. While guidance calling for roughly flat comparable-restaurant growth for the full year would be an improvement over the second quarter, the company had previously guided for low- to mid-single-digit growth. It's difficult to know how much of Chipotle's sales woes are due to company-specific issues and how much are due to the macroeconomic environment. While the company benefited from a boost to menu prices, those higher prices could be more than some of its customers are willing to pay. With two quarters of weak results and lowered expectations, investors are right to be wary of Boatwright's talk of "momentum." Kia reports record quarterly revenue despite profit decline

-- Kia Corporation on Friday announced record quarterly revenue of KRW 29.35 trillion in the second quarter of 2025, representing a 6.5% increase YoY, despite a 24.1% drop in operating profit to KRW 2.77 trillion. The South Korean automaker achieved its highest-ever quarterly global sales of 814,888 vehicles, up 2.5% YoY, driven by strong hybrid model demand and new vehicle launches. The company maintained a 9.4% operating profit margin, which it claims is the highest among major global automakers, though profits were pressured by higher incentives and global trade challenges. "Robust sales of hybrid models in global markets, higher average selling price, and favorable exchange rates helped support our record revenue results," said a Kia executive. Net profit including non-controlling interest fell 23.3% YoY to KRW 2.27 trillion. Electrified vehicle sales grew 14% to 185,000 units, now representing 23.4% of Kia's global sales compared to 21.4% a year earlier. Hybrid models led this growth with a 23.9% increase to 111,000 units, while battery-electric vehicle sales rose 8.3% to 59,000 units. Regional performance varied, with strong results in North America from the Carnival (NYSE:CCL) Hybrid MPV and K4 sedan. The new EV4 electric sedan and Tasman pickup boosted Korean sales, while the Syros SUV launch drove growth in India. European sales declined slightly due to industry-wide demand weakness. Looking ahead, Kia plans to maintain sales momentum by expanding its hybrid lineup and completing its full electric vehicle range by 2026, including the upcoming EV4, EV5, and EV2 models. The company will also enter new segments with vehicles like hybrid versions of the Telluride and Seltos SUVs.
