‘Bridgerton' star Nicola Coughlan talks Palestine support
DUBAI: Irish actress Nicola Coughlan – who rose to fame for her role in Netflix hit series 'Bridgerton' – was awarded the Commitment Prize by French media company Konbini at Canneseries, where she also gave a career talk.
During the hour-long masterclass, Coughlan spoke in depth about not only her work on shows like 'Derry Girls' and 'Doctor Who,' but also her support of Palestine.
'There is a factor of 'it's better if you say nothing' because our job is to entertain you,' said the actor when asked about speaking in support of Palestine, according to a report by Variety. 'My dad was in the Irish Army, which is a peacekeeping force. My family lived in Jerusalem and Syria in the 70s, so it's something that is in my bones. We are talking about right or wrong, about children being bombed in their beds. I wouldn't accept that anywhere in the world.'
The actor, who was given the award for being a 'talent actively making a change well beyond television,' continued by highlighting how there has 'always been a connection between Palestine and Ireland,' and that the two countries have 'shared ideals and struggles.'
'Any country in the world that was facing this, I would talk about it. It's not difficult. For me, the killing of innocent people is never right,' she said.
Coughlan just landed her first BAFTA nomination for her role in 'Big Mood.'
'I never got to play anyone like her before, because she is quite cool, in a way. It's a comedy that morphs into a drama. It bends the genre. She's difficult, she's funny.'

Review: Ginny & Georgia
The emotionally charged third season of Netflix's 'Ginny & Georgia' dropped earlier this month and has hovered steadily in the top 10 shows in the Kingdom since. This season, the show focuses even more strongly on the fast-talking, faster-thinking Georgia, a single mother with bleached-blonde Southern belle looks whose dark past is fast catching up with her. Flashbacks — some heartbreaking, others alarming — offer glimpses of her past life. The story picks up moments after the dramatic finale of season two. Georgia is arrested, still wearing her wedding dress after a picture-perfect ceremony with Paul Randolph, the town's popular mayor, as her two children and the whole town look on in horror. The death of a seemingly minor character triggers a chain reaction that threatens Georgia's carefully cultivated fairy-tale life. Mayor Paul must decide between his new bride and his political career. He chooses the easy way out, but everyone knows there is no such thing. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carrie-Anne Moss Make Magic in 'Fubar' Season 2
Austrian and American actor Arnold Schwarzenegger had to admit that it took him a lot of practice to nail the tango scene with Canadian actor Carrie-Anne Moss for season 2 of the Netflix action-comedy series "Fubar." "We practiced. We practiced a lot, and she didn't need as much practice as I did, but I really practiced," the former California governor told Reuters. The "Terminator" actor recalled doing the first take for the dance scene and impressing everyone with how ready they were. "They just thought we were rehearsing, but they did not know that we were that prepared for the whole thing," Schwarzenegger said with a smile. "Fubar" season 2, created by Nick Santora and produced by Skydance Television and Blackjack Films, premiered on Netflix last Thursday. The story follows Luke Brunner, played by Schwarzenegger and his daughter Emma, played by Monica Barbaro, who are both CIA operatives. Their fellow CIA team members include Barry Putt, played by Milan Carter, Boro Polonia, played by Gabriel Luna, Roo Russell, played by Fortune Feimster and Aldon Reese, portrayed by Travis Van Winkle. In season 2, Brunner is back to working with his CIA team, but things take an unexpected turn when he encounters his ex-lover Greta Nelson, played by Carrie-Anne Moss. Greta is a former East German spy who ends up going up against Brunner in both the tango and a tussling battle. "Most of my scenes are with Arnold, so we developed this incredible friendship," Carrie-Anne said. Schwarzenegger humorously recalled the "Matrix" actor bringing what he dubbed as "secret oil" to the set and putting it behind his ears before shooting a scene. "Peppermint oil. I'm a big peppermint oil or just essential oil person," Carrie-Anne clarified. "It was like some magic power because as soon as she smeared the stuff behind my ears, I mean it was like 'pum!' and we were kind of out of the gate doing our scenes in the most perfect way," Schwarzenegger added.
