Dijana completes hat-trick of Comrades Down Run victories
The Nedbank Running Club athlete, who finished 14th at last year's Up Run, exorcised those painful memories to make it a hat-trick of victories outside People's Park in Durban.
Dijana now holds the 2022, 2023 and 2025 Down Run titles.
Last year's Comrades winner Piet Wiersma, who's earned the nickname 'The Flying Dutchman' finished in second while Nikolia Volkov finished in third place.
Meanwhile in the ladies race, Gerda Steyn won her fourth Comrades Marathon title.
Steyn, who represented South Africa at the Olympics last year, was all smiles as she crossed the finish line.
Russia's Alexandra Morozova finished second to win her sixth gold medal. Shelmisth Muriuki became the first Kenyan woman to finish on the Comrades podium placing third.
This year's Comrades Marathon, run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, is slightly longer than the 87.701km of the previous Down Run (2023), as the finish has been moved to outside People's Park at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
This is the 98th edition of the iconic ultra-distance marathon and the 49th Down Run overall.
A field of over 22 000 runners are hoping to finish this year's Comrades Marathon before the final 12-hour cut-off gun is fired.

'I think he is a top man': Orlando Pirates coach on new signing
Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou believes new signing Abdoulaye Mariko has a lot of qualities but still needs to improve. The 23-year-old midfielder was introduced in the second half during Pirates' match against Polokwane City. Despite only featuring for less than 20 minutes, Bucs faithful were impressed with the Malian striker. 'Mariko is a very interesting young player. He was the top goal-scorer in Mali, and he took the best player and top scorer award. He come to a new environment in a big club,' Ouaddou said. 'He has a lot of quality, as you have seen today (Saturday). But we still have to improve him and bring him to the highest level. It's not easy when you are coming to a new country, with a new culture. He has to integrate himself into the team and learn the language,' he added. The Orlando Pirates coach admitted that there was a lot of expectation for the midfielder. 'The expectation for him is like all the other players, to give his best for Orlando Pirates, because there is a lot of expectations inside the country and the continent, and he knows that. I think he is a top man, good personality, and he is a good player,' Ouaddou said. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. All Blacks pick ONE uncapped player everyone is talking about
New Zealand head coach Scott Robertson on Monday named one uncapped player in his squad for the Rugby Championship, which begins this month when the All Blacks play back-back Tests in Argentina. Chiefs flanker Simon Parker was included for the first time for the opening match against the Pumas in Cordoba on August 16. 'Simon Parker had an impressive Super Rugby season with the Chiefs and brings a valuable skill set and physicality that we are looking forward to working with,' Robertson said. 'He has the ability to play blindside or No 8 and has gained experience in a number of New Zealand representative teams, so we believe he is ready for the step up.' Robertson named three uncapped players as injury cover – prop Tevita Mafileo, scrumhalf Kyle Preston and versatile back Leroy Carter. Tyrel Lomax, Luke Jacobson, Cam Roigard, Noah Hotham and Caleb Clarke will not travel because of injury. 'While we are clearly disappointed for our men who are currently recovering from injuries, that has also created opportunities for a number of deserving players,' Robertson said. 'These players have earned the opportunity through consistent performance, and we know that they will take this chance. 'It is also fantastic to have Tamaiti Williams and Wallace Sititi returning from their injuries, as well as welcoming Peter Lakai, Finlay Christie and Josh Lord back into the group.'
