What is the hotel like?
Dunston Hall is the most striking building, it looks like a set from a period drama.
It was originally constructed as a manor house in the 1800s and still maintains its Victorian charm on the outside, but has been updated with modern amenities on the inside.
It's surrounded by lush parkland and there's plenty of greenery everywhere you look, there's an incredibly long driveway on arrival, and a fountain outside the hotel.

The rooms are very spacious, with some furniture that matches the Victorian look, and other modern touches like a television, kettle and mini fridge.
The beds are huge and comfy, and the bathroom was spotless.
We slept in a room on the third floor and it was very quiet despite there being a wedding at the hotel.

As well as a six-bedroom main house with bespoke interiors and period detailing, Brimpstead Estate also two guest cottages, which the estate agents, By Design say are perfect for "family or staff". The estate also features a "party barn" with a balcony and a garage big enough to fit six vehicles in. Set within nine acres of private grounds, with a breathtaking wildflower meadow and ancient bluebell woodland, the property is perfect for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature. As much of the land still belongs to the Duchy of Cornwall, it is incredibly rare to be able to own a property in the heart of Dartmoor. The property's current owners have spent 30 years extensively renovating the property, combining the charming original features with luxurious modern additions. The main house features six bedrooms, five bathrooms and spans a whopping 5,984sq ft. As soon as you walk through the doors, you are greeted by a huge oak-panelled reception, that doubles as a library. To one side of the reception is a magnificent drawing room, perfect for entertaining, which opens out in a high-ceiling-ed dining room. To the other side, the turret room features deep set windows with window seats, perfect for watching the world go by. Inside Ireland's 'magical' Disney castle with fairytale tower on sale for €7.5MILLION and it's minutes from the beach The master bedroom has "exceptional views" across the moors, and the five-oven AGA in the kitchen is perfect for hosting guests for cosy meals. Other standout features in the house are the curved turret bedroom, the cosy fireplace in the gunroom and the large glass lantern in the breakfast room. By Design said: "Throughout, the house speaks of a love for materials, light, and proportion. "Every decision, every finish, and every feature has been chosen with care creating a home that is not just beautiful to look at, but deeply rewarding to live in." What are the pros and cons of using the Help to Buy scheme? THE current Help to Buy equity loan scheme sees the Government lend up to 20% - or 40% in London - of the value of your property. You only need to put down just a 5% deposit for an eligible home - which are new-build properties. So far, the scheme has helped 313,043 people get on the property ladder and dished out a whopping £18.9billion in loans. The scheme was launched in 2013 to help low income Brits buy homes much easier. Although the old Help to Buy scheme let you buy pricier properties anywhere in the UK worth up to £600,000, the new scheme has a lot of merits too. Here's the pros and cons you should consider when applying for a Help to Buy Equity loan: Pros You can become a homeowner much quicker: you only have to save up enough money for a 5% deposit, which is half of what you'd typically need to save normally. Cheaper mortgage rates: applying for a Help to Buy loan means you won't need to take out as big a mortgage as usual - and says that as your loan to value ratio will be lower, you'll be offered a more competitive interest rate. You can pay off your loan in chunks: You can essentially buy out the government's stake in your home by buying chunks as big as 10% of your home's value, adds. Cons You have to pay interest on your loan after five years: the amount of interest you have to pay back on your loan rises by 2%, at least, each year. You can only buy a new-build home: Only these homes are eligible to buy through the Help to Buy scheme. Higher prices: New-builds can often cost more than a traditional property, and the scheme has come under fire in recent times for helping to push up house prices, leaving lower income Brits priced out of the market. You could be left in negative equity: This is when you owe more money on your mortgage than the value of the property, which as well as leaving you out of pocket, can in turn can make it difficult to sell or remortgage. Experts have previuosly warned that you could be at risk of this if you use the Help to Buy scheme. The estate is situated in a private area of the Dartmoor National Park, with no public rights of way crossing the land. Gorgeous woodland paths lead right down to a trickling river, providing a perfect spot or picnics. The property's current owners said: "It has been our family's sanctuary. A place of laughter, music, and memory. "From evening gatherings in the panelled drawing room, to quiet mornings in the turret, to watching the sun set from the Shed's balcony Brimptsmead has been a place to live, to love, and to remember." 6 King Charles still has fishing rights on the property Credit: Jam Press/By Design 6 The house is up for sale for £4.5 million Credit: Jam Press/By Design

‘It could have killed us', Scots family have shock encounter with a BEAR on US road trip

One of them ended up trapped in the car CLOSE CALL 'It could have killed us', Scots family have shock encounter with a BEAR on US road trip Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SCOTTISH family had a shocking close encounter with a bear while on a dream holiday in the US. The Fergusons, from Airdrie in North Lanarkshire, were touring across parts of America when they had the run in with the furry beast. While they were packing up their car, a curious black bear climbed into the boot of the car. Members of the family were sent scrambling, including some who were inside the motor when the clawed growler clambered in. One member of the family is seen fleeing the motor as the beast made its appearance. They were left panicking on the porch of their rental cabin as the bear rummaged through their car. It was throwing their cases from the open boot of the 4x4 and even made its way to the front seats of the motor. One of them turned on the vehicle's car alarm in an attempt to scare away the four-legged predator. The repeated blasts of the horn seemed to do the trick as the bear wandered off. Grace Sloan, 18, was with her boyfriend Logan Ferguson, 19, on his family's two week road trip through Tennessee, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, North Carolina, and Alabama. She reckons the family are lucky to be alive after the encounter. Tragic biker tourist mauled to death by brown bear moments after taking smiling selfie and vid with ferocious wild beast She told how Logan's uncle Johnny fled the motor but his dad Paul was trapped inside and had to climb over the seats to escape. Grace told The Daily Record: "We were all panicking not knowing what to do. 'If the bear had hurt anyone, I don't know what we would have done. "I'm still shocked. It could have killed one of us and Paul and Johnny are lucky to be alive in that way.' Black bears are quite common in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, with just under 2,000 bears expected to be living in the park. Bear encounters are normally quite high during from May to August inside the picturesque national park. The US National Park Service said: "Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the largest protected areas in the eastern United States where black bears can live in wild, natural surroundings. Bears inhabit all elevations of the park. Though populations are variable, biologists estimate that roughly 1,900 bears live in the park. "This equals a population density of approximately two bears per square mile." They added: "Black bears in the Smokies are black in color, but in other parts of the country they may be brown or cinnamon. "They may be six feet in length and up to three feet high at the shoulder. "During the summer months, a typical adult male bear weighs approximately 250 pounds while adult females are generally smaller and weigh slightly over 100 pounds. However, bears may double their weight by the fall. "Bears over 600 pounds have been documented in the park. Bears can live 12-15 years or more, however bears which have had access to human foods and garbage have a life expectancy of only half that time."

Summer getaway hell as 1,000s of drivers stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic at Dover with delays of up to 90 minutes

Just last weekend a staggering 3 million drivers hit the road GRIDLOCKED Summer getaway hell as 1,000s of drivers stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic at Dover with delays of up to 90 minutes Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THOUSANDS of drivers are stuck in huge queues at the Port of Dover, as Brits head off on their summer getaways. Holidaymakers have been warned of 90 minute delays leading up to border checks this morning. "There are no queues at the check-in plaza, but the port approach roads are still very busy and congested. "TAP procedures are in place for freight. We wish everyone a safe journey!" The end of July and beginning of August are some of the most popular times for Brits to go abroad. However, the huge surge in journeys to airports and staycation destinations means more people will be on the roads than ever. The Port of Dover is a popular travel route for Brits heading to France and, then, onto Europe. Just last weekend a staggering 3 million drivers hit the road, amid the dreaded 'Saturday Scramble'. Meanwhile queues became so big on Thursday last week drivers exited their cars and waited by the side of the road - despite warnings that this was unsafe. Doug Bannister, chief executive at the Port of Dover, has previously said that the organisation has been 'preparing for a busy summer'. He said: 'We know how vital it is to keep things moving, not just for holidaymakers but for our local community too. 'That's why we've boosted staff levels, strengthened traffic management, added welfare facilities and introduced AI-powered forecasting - all to minimise disruption and ensure both residents and travellers have the best possible experience during this busy season.' This year's summer getaway is expected to see the biggest number of midweek car trips made since records began. Experts at the RAC estimated drivers planning 13.9million journeys between Monday July 21 and Thursday 24 July. RAC mobile servicing and repairs team leader Nick Mullender said:'Normally the weekend bears the brunt of getaway traffic but this year we're expecting 'midweek mayhem'. 'We typically see a peak on 'Frantic Friday' when holidaymakers share the roads with commuters heading home, but our figures indicate these trips will now be spread across several days with millions more weekday journeys planned. "To avoid the worst of the traffic, travel outside peak times and steer well clear of morning and evening rush hours. 'If a getaway journey involves hours in the car, it's essential to be well rested and fresh for the trip. "If possible, share the driving with another passenger to ensure concentration levels stay high, while those travelling with children should pack plenty of entertainment to keep them occupied and minimise questions of 'are we there yet?'. Water, snacks and phone chargers are essential! 'Before setting off, drivers should do whatever they can to avoid their vehicles letting them down, like checking oil and coolant levels as well as the condition and tread on all tyres. "There's also still time to book an RAC Mobile Mechanic who can carry out a wide range of repairs at home or work, as well conducting a full or interim service.' The busy port has undergone a huge renovation in recent months, which reportedly cost a £6billion. Previously only able to accommodate ships with a maximum length of 320m, it can now allow boats of up to 350m to moor at Dover. A statement from the Port of Dover following the upgrade said that it can now welcome 'some of the largest cruise ships in the world'. They will have room for bigger ships from the likes of Disney, MSC, Norwegian and Princess.
