BBC acquires four-part German miniseries The Black Forest Murders
The Black Forest Murders (4 x 45'), for BBC iPlayer and BBC Four, combines two real-life criminal cases from 2016 in southern Baden into a gripping fictional police drama, focusing on the credible portrayal of the investigative work.
A young woman is missing. After an intensive search, her body is found, bludgeoned to death by an unknown assailant. Senior Detective Barbara Kramer (Nina Kunzendorf) of the Lauburg police and her team, including Thomas Riedle (Tilman Strauß), begin the search for the perpetrator. They speak with witnesses and gather evidence but quick successes elude them.
The team grows into a large special investigation unit, securing hundreds of clues and attempting to connect them. In addition, they must deal with a second murder, unclear whether it is connected to the first, and parallels to a similar case in Austria that occurred four years earlier are emerging. Under the watchful eye of the concerned public, the police officers face mounting pressure for months, until their persistence is finally rewarded.
Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says: 'The Black Forest Murders is an authentic and compelling crime series focussing on the work of a meticulous investigative team. As well as being a gripping murder mystery, the series offers a detailed look at the challenges of solving complex crimes, and the psychological toll on those involved in such high-stakes investigations.'
The lead cast are Nina Kunzendorf as Barbara Kramer and Tilman Strauß as Thomas Riedle. Other cast include; Aliki Hirsch, Božidar Kocevski, Atrin Haghdoust, David Richter, Liliane Amuat, Florian Hertweck, Markus Krojer, Katja Bürkle, Sophia Schober and Mira Huber.
The Black Forest Murders is a Lailaps Film (a STUDIOCANAL Company) production with SWR and is supported by the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern. The Producer is Nils Dünker, the Executive Producer is Caroline Daube, it is directed by Stefan Krohmer and the Editor for SWR is Katharina Dufner. It is distributed by STUDIOCANAL.

This UFO and Bigfoot expert is the latest person to join Reform UK
A former MEP who has written books on topics as diverse as Bigfoot, Jack the Ripper and the aliens of Area 51 has been announced as the latest recruit to Reform UK. Rupert Matthews is the author of more than 170 books, according to his page on Amazon – though his specialist subjects are history and the paranormal. Among his most popular works are 'Sasquatch: North America's Enduring Mystery', 'Alien Encounters: Extraordinary Tales of Strange Phenomena', and 'Haunted York'. This morning, he was unveiled as the latest defection from the Conservatives to Reform in a press conference hosted by Nigel Farage. As the serving police and crime commissioner for Leicestershire and Rutland, Matthews becomes the first Reform figure to serve in that role. He told the press event he was aiming to remove a 'dark heart of wokeness' from the criminal justice system and accused British politicians of taking inspiration from 'countries like Lebanon and Libya'. Craig Munro breaks down Westminster chaos into easy to follow insight, walking you through what the latest policies mean to you. Sent every Wednesday. Sign up here. Matthews said: 'I daily face a fight against crime. 'I see ordinary, hard-working people burgled, robbed and mugged. Shoplifting is getting out of control. Anti-social behaviour is turning too many of our town centres into an apocalyptic wasteland of lawless Britain.' He has served in his current position since 2021, and had a seat in the European Parliament for the Tories before that. Matthews told the event he had been a member of the Conservatives for 40 years. In 2011, the long-time Eurosceptic suggested the European Commission could technically send military force into the UK against the British government's wishes. In an interview at the Conservative Party Conference, he said: 'Were there to be massive riots in London, or there were to be all sorts of problems, they could go to the German government and say, 'Please send us a Panzer division.' 'If the German government said yes, then the European Commission could send that Panzer division to London and there's nothing the British government could do about it.' A spokesperson for No 10 said: 'Their big defection is very interested in the fantastical and the unexplained. 'It's no surprise who's added Reform's fiscal plans to that list.' Click here to sign up At today's event, Farage also announced Vanessa Frake-Harris – the former prison governor of Wormwood Scrubs – as a member of its law and order taskforce. More Trending She said: 'Our prisons are in a crisis caused by Labour and the Conservatives. What have their solutions been? They have let out 10,000 prisoners out of jail early. 'To let criminals out of jail before they even serve their full sentence is a disgrace.' Both new recruits were announced as part of a weeks-long series of events focusing on crime and justice organised by Reform over parliamentary recess. German Shepherd and Retriever have puppies and not everyone happy with result
An Instagram reel has gone viral after a pet owner shared a video of their two 'Golden Shephards' An Instagram reel has gone viral, amassing over 2.4 million views, 82 thousand likes, and 766 comments at last count. A content creator's rescue dogs are causing quite the stir, igniting both adoration and lively discussion amongst canine enthusiasts. The Instagram account @lifewithgoldenshepherds regularly posts reels featuring their two rescue pups, Bear and Nala, much to the delight of online viewers. The dogs, referred to as Golden Shepherds, are a charming mix of a golden retriever father and German shepherd mother, as explained in the clip. "They are a perfect combination of loyal, alert, protective and sweet!", proclaims the text overlay, adding, "and that's my life with Golden Shepherds.", reports the Express. The caption accompanying the viral footage states: "Meet our Golden Shepherd: loyal like a German Shepherd, loving like a Golden Retriever. You get the fluff, the smarts, and the snuggles in one perfect package. Tag someone who needs to know about this amazing breed!". The digital creator's post has been flooded with glowing remarks and affection for the pair, with one Instagram user commenting: "That's gotta be the best mix ever. Loving and derpy like goldens but smart and trainable like shepherds!". Meanwhile, another user shared: "I have a golden shepherd as well except she's gold with the pointy ears. Seriously the best of both breeds!" One dog lover playfully commented: "I feel like mine, who I adopted when he was 9 months old, got the hyper energy of a Shepard, the intelligence of the golden and the bravery of a chicken. Also he would sell all our secrets for a bone." Another user gushed: "Omg golden fluffy protecting sweethearts? ! I think I want one." However, not everyone was pleased with the creator's choice of words in referring to their dog as a 'breed', with one user writing: "Breed? This is a MUTT. stop purposefully breeding dogs and calling them their own breeds. Adopt don't shop, anyone breeding dogs like this should be ashamed of themselves." Another individual wrote: "Not a breed, only breed this is backyard breed. Ethical breeders don't make mutts." While one argued: "Absolutely nothing wrong with loving your pups but let's not promote unethical breeding practices." And a fourth disgruntled user said: "Stop glorifying mixed breeds. If you want one, go to a shelter. This rubbish will just give backyard breeders more ideas on what mutts they can exploit next. "Glad they are rescues," one user commented, "But humans being disgusting and greedy as they are, I can see someone intentionally seeking out a designer mutt." The reel's comment section points to a wider dialogue in the pet community about ethical breeding and the importance of adopting pets versus buying them from breeders.
