Dubai: New 3-lane bridge to ease traffic flow from Infinity Bridge to Sheikh Rashid Road

Khaleej Times23-03-2025
A new bridge was inaugurated in Dubai on Sunday to enhance traffic movement from Infinity Bridge through Al Mina Street to the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street.
The 1,210-metre bridge features three lanes and has a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. The opening, announced by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is part of Phase 4 of Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project.
The project, which spans 4.8 km along Sheikh Rashid Road, from its intersection with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to the Falcon Intersection on Al Mina Street, is one of RTA's largest ongoing projects.
This phase in the project includes the construction of five bridges totalling 3.1 km, with a combined capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes.
The newly inaugurated bridge "improves connectivity to key residential and commercial areas, including Al Hudaiba, Al Raffa, Al Jafiliya, Al Mankhool, Al Kifaf, and Al Karama," said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA.
In December, RTA opened a 1,335-metre bridge featuring three lanes and a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. The bridge facilitates traffic movement from the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street with Sheikh Rashid Road towards Al Mina Street and Falcon intersection, extending to Infinity Bridge.
Earlier this year, RTA also inaugurated a 605-metre bridge with two lanes and a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. This bridge enhances traffic movement from the intersection of Al Mina Street with Sheikh Rashid Road towards the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Road with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street.
Al Shindagha Corridor improves connectivity between Deira and Bur Dubai while supporting major developments, including Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.
RTA has completed 90% of Phase 4 of the project, with the remaining two bridges set to open in the second quarter of this year.
RTA has said that once completed, it will benefit about one million residents, ensuring smoother traffic flow, increasing road capacity and efficiency, and significantly reducing travel time from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030. The project is designed to enhance road safety standards while delivering an estimated Dh45 billion in economic benefits over the next 20 years.

New four-lane tunnel opens in Dubai to ease traffic

An 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction has opened in Dubai as part of a project to ease traffic flow in the city. The tunnel extends from the junction with Al Khail Road to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road as part of the Umm Suqeim Street development project. The project is part of plans by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to ease the flow of traffic and improve the road infrastructure in the emirate. 'The Umm Suqeim Street development project extends from the intersection with Al Khail Road to the intersection with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, covering a distance of 4.6km," said Mattar Al Tayer, RTA director general, on Sunday. "The works included upgrading the intersection of Umm Suqeim Street with Al Barsha South Street, near Kings' School, where an 800-metre-long underpass with four lanes in each direction was constructed, in addition to a signalised surface-level intersection. "This development is considered one of the most important strategic projects for developing transverse east-west roads to enhance connectivity with vertical north-south roads. The completion of the project complements RTA's efforts to upgrade this corridor." The tunnel is part of plans to develop the Umm Suqeim-Al Qudra corridor, which extends from the intersection with Jumeirah Street to the junction with Emirates Road, spanning a total of 16km.

Dubai taxi drivers honoured for outstanding service

More than 2,100 taxi drivers in Dubai have been honoured for their exceptional service, courtesy and integrity. The recognition comes as part of the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) 'Road Ambassadors' initiative, which rewards drivers who follow traffic laws, maintain high standards of personal and vehicle cleanliness, and return lost items to passengers. "The recognition covered 2,172 drivers in 2024 and up to the first half of this year," said Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA's Public Transport Agency. He added that the initiative has sparked healthy competition among drivers, raised service quality and enhanced the overall commuting experience. Bahrozyan praised the drivers for upholding exemplary standards and commended their collective efforts. The honoured drivers expressed their appreciation, calling the gesture a reflection of the RTA's support and shared commitment to customer happiness. #RTA has honoured 2,172 taxi drivers in #Dubai under the 'Road Ambassadors' initiative that seeks to motivate drivers who comply with laws and regulations, uphold high standards of personal and vehicle cleanliness, and demonstrate integrity by returning lost items to their… — RTA (@rta_dubai) August 4, 2025
